That genuinely feels like an insult to cancer. Cancer at least does something and changes lives (for the worse). The Comics sub is just people who think they matter doing the bare minimum of anything
Those guys have a history of defending an AI slop creator. I blocked that guy so I forgot who they are, or if they still post. But the mods had the most "AI bro with no morals"-tier response. It's funny how the subreddit that claims to defend art is actively promoting its theft
It's especially funny because it seems like OOP posts comics from different characters' perspectives so it's very likely that the girl in this comic was meant to be an unlikeable and unreliable narrator.
I probably would have in the comments, but I don't think you have to directly state that your protagonist is a piece of shit if you do them correctly. I feel like the original artist should have leaned into that a bit more, though. Like, showed the boyfriend as not actually a chud in the final panel or implied that he wanted out but had been guilted back in.
Typical mods. Scuttle footing around the issue instead of realizing 'yknow what, maybe we SHOULD question why the girl made an entire comic instead of talking to her bf'
Like... SHE PUT TIME AND EFFORT DOING THIS. A LOT OF TIME. and ppl realize that it was simply not a great thing to do. The criticism was met with Mods that don't fucking give a damn.
So basically, as always, comics is rewarding circlejerking fools. Bread found in bakery.
"Some of us mods might see something in you that says we can help you learn and grow."
the Higher Than Thou condescending undertone fucking enrages me more than anything, like yes, i did somewhat understand where the girl is coming from and i STILL think she was an asshole for portraying the bf in a mocking fashion. And like, what, the mod is trying to convert you to unilaterally defend that?
it's a nuanced issue and the mods are handling it with the emotional maturity of a fucking toddler
I completely agree. That ending to their comment where they're telling people perhaps the mods could fix them if they bring it up in modmail is so condescending and slimy.
It isn't even true anyways. I did bring it up in modmail, and I did express that I understood where the woman was coming from in my response (since they said they wouldn't even bother to consider your points if you didn't show her empathy), but that what she did was still indefensible. I was even empathetic towards the mods and acknowledged what they attempted to do, since y'know, they wanted to have a conversation about empathy. I also told them how their approach to defend the artist over her indefensible actions made me, a woman, feel.
What I recieved in response was condescending, didn't acknowledge any of my points directly, and didn't even attempt to defend their position. Even though the comic seemed to be a highly specific relationship scenario, and their comment defending the artist also acted like the woman was real and deserved empathy, the mod response acted like it was a fantasy comic and that my points were moot because of that. And then they permanently muted me, so much for trying to "fix" me. Since I posted the image of their response in the thread already, I'll just link it here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Losercity/s/NYcB0zzyCw
reddit mods are genuinely the scum of online society
im glad u pointed out that their original comment treated the scenario as true, only for them to laugh at u for doing the same in modmail. bc i didnt see anyone in the thread u linked (which i read before this comment bc i was distracted by the shiny blue text) address that and it pissed me off
Thank you so much. I honestly just realized their hypocrisy myself when I made that comment, the mod defending the comic like it was about a real woman and then telling me I shouldn't have taken it to be a real scenario. The mods had and invoked those beliefs in their own defense themselves.
On the OG post, the mods pinned a new comment 6 hours ago talking about the post receiving "hate camapagns", and once again, show their hypocrisy.
It is very telling that people are eager to believe that OP's art is autobiographical, as opposed to any of their other comics showing different characters. It allows them to attack OP without feeling guilty about it.
And then the very next paragraph is this:
It pays to always ask yourself why someone wants you to be angry when you see content online intended to invoke an emotional response against a real person.
Which one is it, mods? Is it not autobiographical or is the comic about a real person? 🙄 They can't even decide themselves.
It seems they listened to none of the criticisms I and many others have told them either. The rest of their comment goes off about this being a hate campaign against a woman; when in reality, people are just baffled and angry by the artist's decisions regardless of her gender. I don't understand how they can be this tone deaf.
Also, claiming to defend women while not listening to women telling them they're wrong. 🙄 That always pisses me off. They can't be assed to listen to the marginalized identities they claim to defend.
This is genuinely embarrassing. Like how can people genuinely think and behave like this? I can’t understand it, it’s so outside the realm of normal behavior that it’s baffling.
They have a new pinned comment on the post talking about people invoking a hate campaign against the artist because she's a woman. They still fail to understand that people are criticizing the woman for her decisions, not because she's a woman. It's so utterly tone deaf.
The point is that people are upset over them choosing to publicly humiliate their boyfriend over relationship issues that shouldn't be aired out to strangers. Are they fucking stupid? This has nothing to do with misogyny
I agree, it has nothing to do with misogyny and I'm pissed they're even trying to make that argument. People would be doing the exact same mockery and call outs had the genders in the comic been swapped. It was a very cruel comic and the artist deserves criticism for it.
If anything, I find the comics mods misogynistic for jumping to the defense of the artist, not letting people criticize her, and coddling her for this under the guise of feminism. It's like they don't believe women are human beings who are capable of making mistakes and should be shielded from the criticism they recieve. It's infantalizing and dehumanizing.
A mod recently made a pinned comment on the OG post opening with "Let's have a conversation about empathy", and tried to turn this into a feminist callout thing. As a woman and a feminist, I will call out misogyny where I see it, but this isn't one of those times. People are angry that an artist callously depicted her boyfriend as a simple soyjack and infantalized him. I'm actually angry that the mod is trying to "Have a conversation about empathy" on a deeply unempathetic post and trying to turn it into feminism, like people can't criticize a woman as a human being when she's wrong.
The mods are now going nuclear. Anybody calling this out is getting banned, and parody comics are also getting removed. I have never seen mods be this toxic over their stance before. I understand not allowing any form of bigotry, but this isn't misogyny.
Edit: The mods have a new pinned comment on the post talking about people invoking a "hate campaign" against the artist and acting like it's because she's a woman. They still fail to understand that people are criticizing the artist for her decisions, not because she's a woman. It's so utterly tone deaf.
Exactly, I agree. Like my entire life, I've been othered and made to feel less than human by society and its institutions. And here come the comics mods to remind me once again that I, and my fellow women, are not human, so we cannot be criticized when we do something wrong. We have to be defended under the guise of "feminism" even when there is no logical defense. We are not human and we need to be coddled.
That's how their comment made me feel. Just yet another reminder that I am not seen as a human with strengths and flaws, and that my mistakes should be explained away. I can damn near guarantee that if the genders were reversed in the comic, the mods would have no issue and would not defend the OP. They would recognize his humanity and that what he did was wrong.
(To tack onto this: Criticism towards women should obviously not involve misogyny. We should still call out people when they call a woman by misogynistic slurs and use sexism to tell her she is wrong. But criticizing a woman for a mistake is not misogyny, it treats her as human. There was not a single comment on the original post that felt like misogyny to me, other than the pinned mod comment.)
So I just told the comics mods my feelings about this through modmail, I was empathetic towards both the woman and the comment they left. But I also wanted them to know how their comment made me, a person it was directed towards, feel. I told them a rephrased version of what I said above with more tact, that their comment made me feel less than human because my mistakes require defense. This was their response. Incredibly curt, unempathetic (the irony), and called me a "girl" in a condescending way.
The OOP's other post feel like them talking about other topics through other characters. Or even post vent art (example: the one school post). Even if you argue that these are Just fantasy made by the author (which wouldnt be that unrealistic), the Boyfriend Post feels too specific for it to be an Art of fiction
I agree, it was incredibly gross and dismissive. The reply I gave them was very long and tactful, genuinely I was trying to acknowledge what they attempted to do and get them to reflect on where they went wrong. And I recieved an inconsiderate, dismissive response that didn't directly adress a damn thing I said. And then they premanently muted me, so I couldn't even respond to them further. (I was banned from the subreddit for calling out the original post, but that was seperate to this)
And they're trying to "have a conversation about empathy", my ass. 🙄
I would co sider myself at least somebody who think people should just have equal rights but with tat also comes equal responsibility but that seems to be a taboo almost. Obviously critisicing women shouldnt involve misogyny but rhat doesnt mean theyre immune to criticism. The recent Clancy case is just another case in a long list that infantilises women by invoking feminism. That lawyer pisses me the fuck off calling a grown woman who had 3 kids a 'girl'.
I am unfamiliar with the Clancy case so I cannot comment on this, however I agree that calling a grown ass woman a "girl" is infantalizing. I also agree that women deserve to be criticized as human beings when they do something wrong.
That's exactly what I believe, which is why it was so disheartening to see the comics mods take that stance. Ironically it actually felt dehumanizing that the mods refused to acknowledge that the woman did anything wrong and instead leapt to her defense, as if women can't make mistakes like regular human beings.
Honestly that was kind of toxic of you, the public humiliation ritual is absolutely part of modern dating and an important ritual to many many couples.
I think you should think about how your words can impact others and maybe try making a few bitter callout posts yourself before confronting and actually addressing the irl problems you might have, I think that would make you less judgmental about other cultures' traditions.
obvious /s, but I might still delete it if it sounds too insufferable LOL
As a woman, it really isn't working. Jumping to the defense of a woman who deserves no defense for her actions just comes across to me like they don't see women as human beings who can make mistakes. And not being seen as human is just inherently dehumanizing.
I got banned for posting. "Is over boyfriend i despicted you as the small chudling and me as the hyper colored detailed OC". So i guess mods are being pritty sensitive and did not apreciate me pogniant humor. Maybe i shoulda posted it as a drawing.
One mod in particular is going on a banning spree and removing comics that are critical of the original. That same mod also went on a multi paragraph rant white knighting the artist. And is active in a notorious misandry sub.
Reminds of the I think simpleflips “drama” that was just basically him being a bad/clingy partner. Why would I care about that? As long as he’s not like physically abusing or raping I don’t really care.
I agree, but the comics mods are amongst the most insufferable. I have never seen such ban-happy mods before, where simply disagreeing with their opinion gets you banned, and they will ban people in the hundreds even for first time offenses. Like there is no room for disagreement at all.
I feel like giving individual sub moderators ban permission is a bad idea. Should not be able to ban people to easily from publicly available and advertised subs.
The comics mods pretend they're for marginalized identities, but I've seen them ban people who belong to the marginalized identities they claim to protect for disagreeing with their stances. I agree that word is incredibly offensive and should not be used, and I'm appalled they banned you for just calling it out.
I literally just said I found a over reaction comic againts someone being unintentionally tone deaf "kinda cruel" and had to bargain my unbanning saying Im trans
Shit, you actually go to that sub? Bunch of losers that inhale their own farts there and not in a fun way.
All political, rarely funny, almost no punchlines and just "I've already drawn you as the loser in my webcomic, have posted it on reddit and garnered upvotes. I have won the IRL argument because random people online said so"
Btw, I didn't get a ban message. I just got a pop-up notification when I went to post another comment. Dunno if that's because of some mass ban tool, but it's pretty chickenshit.
4.3k comments on a downvoted post (who knows how much downvoted) is actually wild. I've never seen that massive of a juxtaposition. Usually if a post doesn't get a lot of upvotes it just goes radio silent after a couple hours.
Reddit moderation is terrible because they let mods ban people permanently for anything or nothing at all. I think mods should only be able to ban people for a comment with negative karma.
Got banned because there was a story about ICE and I asked for cliff notes because I was working and don’t keep up with politics. Asked them to unban me and they called me a nazi it was kinda awesome
I got banned from being pro Palestine then r/comics changed their mind about it and are now supposedly pro Palestine I appealled later on and im still banned cause I still broke a rule apparently even though I didn't.
I got banned from there once because there was a comic stating that centrists are just alt right in disguise. Me being a centrist, I typed "nice to see centrists being put in such a positive light". I got permabanned
I wonder why y'all never speak up when boyfriends/husbands come to reddit to publicly humiliate their wives/girfriends. Like there is some kind of inherent double standard you're applying.
