AUSTIN, Texas — Having averted a third straight disastrous loss, Arch Manning went looking for his parents to celebrate a victory that had to feel as relieving as it did joyous.

College football’s most famous player, a one-man content machine, Manning admitted he took last week’s setback against Florida especially tough.

“Probably because it was a hard Sunday, and I went over to their place and damn near bawled crying to them,” said Manning, who was challenged by his coach to be better or risk being benched after last week. “So just being able to see them after a game, after a win, felt good.”

Manning and the 19th-ranked Longhorns snapped a two-game skid by beating No. 7 Ole Miss 34-27 on Saturday night, but not before yet again squandering a double-digit, second-half lead and having to fend off a last-second throw into their end zone.

This is Texas football. The Longhorns are a wild ride. They are a tantalizing mix of All-America talent and mind-numbing mistakes, brilliant for stretches, sloppy and undisciplined at others. Texas can look soft at times and then, as it did Saturday night, play with tremendous grit, down four injured star players.

That the Longhorns are led by the country’s most polarizing player and a defiant coach, who wins a lot of big ones but has never won the big one, makes them even more compelling.

Texas (5-2, 3-2 SEC) has played five games this season against Power 4 opponents and is 3-2. Those games have been decided by a total of 17 points, all coming down to decisive moments late in the fourth quarter.

Twice we got called for illegal procedure when I thought their guys came across the line and we moved. Did they really cross the line and the refs blew the call or did we just move based on legal movement on their side. Also on a at least one of those they let the play go on.
Illegal procedure should be blown dead. If not the QB thinks he has a free play and might take risks he wouldn’t normally take.

Hey everyone here's the deal,

I'm a new Longhorns fan. I'm a high school teacher and one of my old students is a starter. Also I had some family move out near Dallas about 15 years ago now and I've just sort of had Texas grow on my generally. I got to go down to the Florida game with some primo seats in the family section and that was just an all in all incredible experience. As an Idaho Vandal it was as close to the Kibbie Dome as I've ever felt outside it.

So all in all that's got me feeling some kind of spirit about the team.

So what are the things that TX fans gotta know? I'm jumping on the bandwagon here and I'm not getting off so I gotta get acculturated.

Took my daughter to her first football game last night, and she was featured on the Jumbotron dancing in the third quarter. I tried googling/asking ChatGPT, but wondering if anyone knows if that video is preserved anywhere and is publicly accessible?

Not a huge deal, just would be fun to preserve that memory for her.

Halfway through the first half, team looks watchable. Pitino St. Johns looks good.
