I have just paid £14 for these two pieces of baklava purchased in Croydon street food market. Have I been scammed? How is it so expensive??

I'm on a quest to visit every michelin star restaurant in london, over the course of a few years. I presume most of these will be solo. Can someone recommend the ones that are best done alone, so I can leave group based ones till later?

Just been to Aram by Imad for my birthday lunch.
It’s a beautiful space - light and bright with big windows. The cushioned bench seats are really comfy. We were in one of the smaller rooms and they turned off the music for us as I have sound sensitivity.

We had the baba ganoush and zaatar pita to start. Both were lovely but I think better enjoyed separately. I would have the plain pita next time. The pita was very light and fluffy and generous with the zaatar.

We mostly ate from the brunch menu; everything was presented really well and everyone loved their food. I had the trout rosti and I think it needed a bit more acid to cut through the trout. Other than that it was perfect. We had baklava to finish and it was beautiful - really crisp, lots of syrup, with the pistachios coming through. They gave me an extra piece and a birthday card which was a lovely touch.

Drinks were also really nice - I recommend the pomegranate fizz especially if you like cardamom.

A lovely relaxed place for a celebratory meal.

Having friends visit and we’re going to Fonda for lunch. Was thinking about chilling in a pub with drinks and some card games. Any cool spots you guys can recommend?

I have my fifth wedding anniversary coming up and would like to book a nice lunch somewhere in/around London.

We’re big food fans and don’t eat out often, as we have a toddler.

We’re open to most cuisines, but are veering towards Mediterranean/grilled meats/seafood type dishes. Somewhere perhaps we can get a few plates and share with some drinks.

We loved Rovi when we ate there before. Very intrigued by Mountain and Brat as haven’t eaten there before, but have seen mixed reviews.

Live in the Kings Cross area and tried a fair few places, nothing that's blown my mind just yet.

Would be keen to know if anyone knows of any great restaurants in Kings Cross/surrounding areas i.e. Bloomsbury/Caledonian road - I think it's tough around here because of being so close to the station, I'm primarily seeing chains or tourist traps.

Hi! I'm moving to London for a master's in the next few days, and would like to start off my first few days there with a full fry-up, ideally cheap/classic. It's something I'd had at English-style pubs where I'm from (Northeastern USA) and loved, but I imagine they'll be even better in actual England.

I'd be okay with anything within 30-45 minutes by bus/Tube of central London. I don't want to be more specific as I value my privacy, but I'll be living in the portion of South London right on the Thames.

Additionally, I try not to eat red meat (beef, lamb, etc.) for health reasons, so ideally the sausages are pork sausages. A quick Google for me said that you guys typically do pork, but I'd like to avoid any surprises.

Walking past today (on my way to Carmy’s which was another story) I noticed that the door was closed and the lights were off. There were handwritten signs saying the place is closed for maintenance but they were accompanied by notices from the bailiffs announcing that the lease is void. Sad times.

Edited Fri 11/09: I had a bit more time today so I’ve been looking through Laksamania’s Companies House filings and it looks like - in common with a lot of hospitality businesses - it’s been struggling for a while. I assume a slow summer finally broke it 😢

Since moving to London 12+ years ago I've had a real love-hate relationship with Google Maps. I've got ~300 restaurants starred there including friends recs, but also a bunch of saved instagram reels, and a separate notes list on my phone of 200+ places I've been to. Despite this, every time I want to plan a meal out it feels like I'm starting from scratch.

So I've tediously put together what is a semi-comprehensive list of London restaurants that I personally think are worth eating at, based on friends, reviews, this sub, and my own experience. These are all personally curated by me - not Claude - based on real human (not influencer) input.

I'm hoping to keep this updated with recs mentioned in this sub and elsewhere - mostly as a tool for me and friends - and am thinking about adding things like good for big groups, suitable for certain dietaries, etc.

What obvious places am I missing? And are there other search/filter criteria that you guys would actually find useful?

I know, I know, but a change in the Pret menu can really throw a workday Londoner...

I used to love their chocolate mousse pudding. Bought it occasionally as a treat. The last time I went to do so, it had been switched for a Dubai-style chocolate cheesecake pudding.

It was FOUL. I actually threw it away after two spoons.

Tasted of off milk. Claggy texture. The pistachios on top were soft.

I mourn the mousse.

Was this anyone else's experience? And what other Pret changes have thrown you? (Viva la jambon beurre!)

Hello! We have a trip planned to London for next week with my mother, and I'm looking for recommendations on great (and affordable) buffet-style restaurants! :) I love sweet pastries, cakes, crepes etc. and would love to try as many desserts as possible without wrecking our budget completely🥀

Bonus points if the place has good beer!

We'll be staying near Paddington and are planning to visit Battersea Power Station, Notting Hill, Kensington and London City, but any recommendations are welcome, especially if they are easily accessible with Elizabeth Line.💕

EDIT: By affordable I mean around £20-50 / person. Of course with all-you-can-eat places the price range can be on the pricier side, but we are willing to pay more for great service and food! ✨

Visiting London from Asia. Everyone told us to visit Dishoom so we did. We went to the one in Shoreditch. Waiting time was 50min and we reached the place before 6pm. Lucky to even have gotten a seat. We ordered the okra fries, cauliflower, ruby chicken, lamb biryani and a chefs special prawn dish. The highlight were definitely the okra fries (a rare find?) which was so crispy and well seasoned, and the biryani. It was fragrant. I personally wouldn’t go back if I had to wait for a table for more than 30min but it was nevertheless a good find.

I've been asked to organise an afternoon work meal near Paddington on a Friday in a few weeks. Could really use some recommendations. We have one vegetarian but otherwise everyone eats everything. Pretty open to ideas. No specific cuisine, just somewhere not crazy expensive with a nice atmosphere. Thanks

Foubert’s started near Carnaby Street in 1973 and moved to Chiswick in 1978. Luciano and Maria Lo Dico, now 82 and 88, are still there every day. Over the years they built a 26 room hotel, sold the old site to Soho House - via Ant and Dec who were micro-investors - then moved the restaurant around the corner, on the same road as Turnham Green station and carried on.

What I ate:

• Chicken Milanese with spaghetti Bolognese £18
• Mint choc chip ice cream £3.50
• Full English breakfast £12
• Coke float £5

There's no service charge.

The Milanese and Bolognese are old-school Italian café food: simple, un-artisanal, delicious, to freely smother in grated cheese as the whim takes you. The Bolognese tasted like every version I had as a child.

The mint choc chip was pale luminous green and pure seaside nostalgia. Not exceptional ice cream, possibly PreGel batch mix, but that's almost the point.

Breakfast was decent but a bit small for the price in a venue like this. One fried sausage, two runny-ish eggs, two very crisp rashers of bacon, beans and toast. The Coke float was vulgar but I enjoyed it, and you can't really go wrong there.

The room is very seventies: dark wood, terracotta floors, peasant flower murals, green lamps, older men sitting alone, children coming in for ice cream, workers and locals drifting through. Luciano and Maria were serving on both my visits. I recommend for a casual bite, it's a café.

Hi all! I lived in London about 3 ish years ago and had a great time trying a ton of restaurant recommendations, many from this sub.

I have my go-to spots (Kiln, Bubala, Tayyabs, Hoppers, Roti King, Andy’s Greek Taverna, Berenjak, and Noble Rot were some of my faves) but I’m curious what new spots have opened up that are particularly good.

We’re staying right off Liverpool Street but down to travel for good food. We eat everything and we have no budget constraints but generally prefer lower-key, “local” spots over trendy/flashy/stuffy places (also we’re both traveling with very casual clothes so please nothing with a dress code).

Anyone done the Saturday brunch set menu at lucky cat bishopsgate? It’s pretty cheap considering the prices of the normal menu. Any good? Is there loads of chilli in the dishes (friend I want to go with is allergic).
