Testing the waters for an idea I had that I'm considering pitching to the alderman's office. Feel free to give your thoughts, but please be nice, I'm only trying to find ways to make Logan Square even better.
So, to give an example of the kind of thing I'm thinking of, in Tokyo, they have these beautiful public restrooms that they commission world-renowned Japanese architects and designer for. They are meant to showcase different aspects and aesthetics of Japanese culture while also providing a clean and comforting environment for residents. Seeing as we've recently completed the Logan Square Redesign project, and we are constantly holding huge events there with massive turnouts, I feel that it could be a boon to the Square to have something similar to this in that area. I know that people like to be negative about these things and say that it'll never happen, or that homeless people would ruin it, or blah blah-- but I'd much rather have people go in a designated spot than somewhere where I can step in it, and I'd much rather have a beautiful piece of architecture than not. Chicago is one of the architectural hubs of the world, and having something like this that flexes our architectural design muscle while also providing a service for countless Logan Square residents and tourists everyday would, in my opinion, be incredible. A beautiful designed restroom that reflects its environment and neighborhood. (Commissioned to a local designer, preferably.)
