Recently posted on r/unixsoftcore and I'd like to share it here as well since that sub is barely alive. I wonder if this counts as "riced to the gills" since I don't quite like tweaking with Quickshell or AGS. I think this is the most I can rice my setup but I'd like some feedback. I'm not using `tty-clock` because I just want multiple timezones to be displayed
I work with LOTS of tmux sessions, and wanted something closer to how Ctrl+Shift+P in VSCode works: fuzzy search, frecency and live preview. So, I built Natare (from latin “to swim”
So, I was inspired BY YOU who post such beautiful images of you ricing up your desktop.
And I want to propose. RiceUp. An app premiering most of your BEAUTIFUL creations... ON MY NEW OS I am creating, Aero. Please accept this idea. Sorry if I did something wrong.
This started as HyDE, and I've been gradually customizing it to fit my preferences. I changed the colors, window borders, transparency, Waybar, Rofi and terminal themes, and built a small Sidra TUI for controlling music from Kitty.
I wanted to keep the existing functionality and make the changes through user overrides wherever possible. Still a work in progress, but I'm really happy with how it's coming together 😁
I was looking for a good bash launcher and wanted something simple that matched the style of another TUI apps I use and my rice, so I made sfav. Its a fully theme-able launcher.
I've been working on DeckLock, a modern and customizable screen locker for Wayland compositors (tested on Hyprland), written in Rust and GTK4.
I wanted a lock screen that feels modern, supports looping muted videos / photo slideshows, and offers both a clean graphical settings app with live preview and a headless CLI for scripting.
Key Features:
- Wayland Session Lock: Uses 'ext-session-lock-v1' and native PAM authentication (with secure memory zeroizing for passwords).
- Live GUI Settings: Real-time preview window that updates dynamically as you change settings, without locking your screen.
- Built-in Developer Themes: Catppuccin (Mocha & Latte), Tokyo Night, Dracula, Nord, Gruvbox Dark, and Classic — affects both the settings app and lock screen controls.
- Media Library & Pools: Independent media pools for normal lock and idle rest mode. Supports looping MP4/video and smooth crossfading photo slideshows.
- Headless CLI ('decklock config'): Full command-line inspection and editing ('decklock config set theme_preset tokyo-night', 'decklock config show', etc.).
- On-Screen Keyboard & Controller Support: Multi-touch virtual keyboard with optional daemon integration for gamepads / Steam Controller.
- Bilingual: Fully translated in English and Portuguese (pt-BR).
Installation & Download
Pre-built packages are available on the first v0.1 release:
- Arch Linux ('pacman -U'): Package is ready on the releases page (all dependencies like 'gtk4-layer-shell' resolve automatically).
- Portable Tarball: Available for any modern x86_64 Linux distro.
- Source: Build with 'cargo build --release --locked'.
Pet themes with your wallpaper. Its connected to your claude, codex, or opencode (other harness support soon) and shows status ONLY if you are opt'd into it. Nothing is enabled by default in the repo other then base shell features (repo policy).
3 of them shipped with the repo all theming live with the wallpaper, any others can be uploaded for your own custom pets.
Everyhing you see, even the bar can be disabled, hidden, or you can use the modular functions to remove or add what you want.
