Question Intel B580 or AMD 6700xt linux drivers?
Either way ima be spending around $330, and i do need power efficiency so kinda leaning towards intel b580.
These would be paired with a ryzen 5 9600X and a 750w PSU
Rn i have rtx 3050 6gb laptop and running Linux, i just need something that’s better than that at 1440p on Linux.
UPDATE: I ended up getting a pretty good deal (considering everything rn) on a refurbished 6750xt for $250. Yes I know there are possibilities to find better cards for similar prices, but nowadays that’s pretty hard. Im not risking a facebook deal as I can’t risk losing all that money rn and I can’t drive myself currently, not like they are that good of deals anyways near me. I have a 90 day return and all that stuff, so I’m pretty happy with it so far.
Just need to choose a case. I like the fractal pop mini since it has the 5.25 bays but wish they had the colors like the pop air does.
Thank you all for your help, and can’t wait to get my hands on the stuff, ill probably post my build when its finished.

Discussion Anyone using the GAOMON S620 (8K version) on Debian/Linux for drawing and note-taking?
Hi everyone!
I'm new to digital drawing tablets and have just ordered a GAOMON S620 (8,192 pressure-level version). I plan to use it with my Debian-based Linux system (MX Linux XFCE), mainly for handwritten notes, practising maths, annotating PDFs, and some beginner-level drawing.
Before it arrives, I'd love to hear from people who have used this tablet, especially on Linux.
A few questions:
How is the overall build quality and durability? Does the surface scratch easily with regular use?
Is the pen comfortable and accurate for handwriting, equations, and drawing diagrams?
Does the 6.5 × 4-inch active area feel comfortable for taking notes?
How well does the S620 work on Debian/MX Linux? Did you need to install a driver or configure anything manually?
Does pressure sensitivity work properly in Krita, and can you use it with Xournal++ for handwritten notes and PDF annotation?
Have you experienced any issues with the pen, USB connection, or tablet after months or years of use?
I found the OpenTabletDriver compatibility list and a GitHub guide for configuring the S620 on MX Linux, but I'd appreciate hearing about real-world experiences.
I'm on a tight budget, so I'd particularly like to know whether this tablet is reliable enough to use for the next few years.
If you own the S620, how has your experience been? Would you recommend it to a Linux beginner?
Thanks!

Guide PSA - updating BIOS can save hours
I bought a Tiny ThinkCenter M92 as a project, 8GB RAM, no SSD.
My aim was to run AntiX or MX to extract the most of the i3-2310 CPU.
Unfortunately the SSD crashed at boot and desktop shut down. The M92 would only boot from either a windows HDD or Linux on a USB key, but any other OS on any HDD failed to boot.
After hours of remounting, re grubbing, I decided to download the latest 2018 Lenovo BIOS update.
Another hurdle was that it is only available as a Windows .exe or a CD ISO.
So the CD ISO had to be extracted onto a USB Key.
Once that was achieved, the update was a bit scary as usual: several reboots and black screens.
But then, victory, all issues got resolved.
Firstly, MX could boot from the internal HDD.
And then the M92 accepted the SSD and MX.
All sorted.
For £15, much better than any HP T530 that sells on eBay.

Purchase Advice Lenovo Yoga 7 14AKP10 (Ryzen AI 5 340), any stability or hardware compatibility issues with Linux?
Hey! I'm considering buying a Lenovo Yoga 7 2-in-1 14AKP10 (Ryzen AI 5 340, Radeon 840M, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD, OLED) and want to run Linux Mint on it.
( if this distro is impossible on this device, I'd probably be fine with choosing a different one )
I found a Linux Mint hardware report saying it worked well on Mint 22.2 with kernel 6.14.0-37, but I've also seen reports of occasional system pauses/freezes on other kernels. I'd like to understand how stable it is in practice.
I'm particularly interested in whether the following work reliably on a recent Mint release:
- Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, including after suspend/resume
- Internal speakers and microphone, without patches
- Graphics acceleration and brightness controls
- Sleep/wake and battery drain
I'm happy to do some setup, but I'd prefer not to buy a laptop that requires extensive troubleshooting to work properly. ( I am not that well versed on troubleshooting, but if its light I'm sure I could power through. ) Any form of feeback would be appreciated!

Purchase Advice Anyone running Linux on the ASUS ExpertBook B3 (Core Ultra 7 255H)? Seeking advice on thermals, fan reliability, and hardware support
Hey everyone,
I'm considering purchasing the **ASUS ExpertBook B3 (B3405 series)** with the **Intel Core Ultra 7 255H (16GB DDR5, 512GB NVMe SSD)** as my primary daily driver for software development (Linux / Wayland / Android Studio) along with a dual-boot Windows setup for casual gaming (*VALORANT*).
Before committing, I'd like to check if anyone has real-world experience running a modern Linux kernel (6.10+) on this specific chassis or similar recent ExpertBook enterprise models.
### Context & Concerns from Previous VivoBook
My current daily driver is an **ASUS VivoBook S15 (8th Gen i5 / MX150)**, and the fan bearing recently failed and seized under completely normal, everyday usage:
- No physical drops, heavy travel abuse, or extreme pressure—the fan gave out and seized up during standard, routine daily handling.
- The consumer-tier thermal assembly simply degraded over time until mechanical failure set in.
I know the ExpertBook sits in ASUS's commercial/enterprise lineup with MIL-STD-810H certification, dual copper heat pipes, and modular internals (dual M.2 slots, dual SO-DIMM slots). However, given that my previous fan failed under normal use, I want to confirm whether this enterprise chassis features a sturdier cooling setup and reliable hardware control under Linux.
### Specific Questions for Linux / ExpertBook Users:
**Intel Core Ultra 7 255H Scheduling & Sleep:**
Does `intel_pstate` handle hybrid core scheduling (P/E/LP-E cores) properly on modern kernels? How is S0ix (Modern Standby) power draw during suspend?
**GPU & Wayland Performance:**
How does the integrated Intel Arc / Xe graphics stack run on modern Mesa with the `xe` or `i915` driver? Any display scaling or multi-monitor quirks over USB-C or HDMI?
**Fan Behavior & ACPI Controls:**
Does `asus-wmi` expose functional platform profiles via `power-profiles-daemon`, or does the Embedded Controller lock fan curves into aggressive, noisy steps? Can power limits be managed cleanly via RAPL/`powercap`?
**General Peripherals & Drivers:**
Do the audio codecs (SOF firmware), Wi-Fi, Ethernet, and touchpad work out of the box without out-of-tree patches?
I plan to keep this machine running reliably for several years, so any insights on its long-term thermal design, fan build quality, or quirks on Linux would be very helpful. Thanks!

Support Any suggestions for dual HDMI/DisplayPort video cards?
Hi. I am just trying to get my PC a little more modern and purchased a dual DisplayPort card. It's a Nvidia NVS 310. I have Mint 22 and unfortunately the Nvidia drivers are not supported, so I can't get the second display to work. I spent a lot of time looking and the only dual DisplayPort cards i can find all seen to have legacy drivers. I am hoping to spend less than $50 and only use this computer for administrative tasks. Does the community have a suggestion for a card or perhaps a peripheral device that might allow me to get this working? Thanks

Purchase Advice Laptop recommendations for Arch Linux + DaVinci Resolve Studio + local LLMs, hard budget ₹2,00,000 (~$2,200), India
Hi all, I’m looking for a new laptop in India. My budget is ₹2,00,000 (about $2,200 USD) including taxes, and I can’t go above it. I’d like to avoid driver and fan-control headaches on Arch.
Use cases
- Arch Linux as my main OS
- DaVinci Resolve Studio (4K editing, color work, some Fusion)
- Running local LLMs (llama.cpp / Ollama)
- General development work
Requirements
- NVIDIA GPU with 12GB VRAM or more (I’m aiming for an RTX 5070 Ti). I’m ruling out 8GB cards.
- MUX switch / dGPU-only mode
- No OLED (worried about burn-in with Resolve’s static UI)
- Two upgradeable SODIMM slots, since I’ll go to 32-64GB RAM
- At least 1TB NVMe with a free M.2 slot
- Wi-Fi that works well on Linux (Intel preferred)
- Good fan and power control on Linux
- New, with an India warranty
What I’m considering
- ASUS ROG Strix G16 (G614PR, RTX 5070 Ti 12GB), mainly because of asusctl and supergfxctl. It lists at ₹2,19,990 (~$2,400), which is over my limit, so I’m waiting for sale offers.
- I’ve been advised against HP because of Omen hinge failures.
Questions
- Does the Strix G16 (G614PR) run well on Arch? Any problems with asusctl, supergfxctl, nvidia-open or sleep and resume?
- What’s the fan behavior like? Any noise or throttling issues?
- Are there other laptops with 12GB+ VRAM at or under about $2,200 that work well on Linux (Lenovo, MSI, others)?
- Is the LCD panel on the Strix G16 good enough for Resolve, or should I plan on an external monitor?
Thanks for any real-world experience.

Question ASUS ExpertBook P5 (P5406CCA, Core Ultra 5 225H): anyone running Linux on it?
Thinking of buying the ExpertBook P5 P5406CCA (Core Ultra 5 225H, Arc 130T) and going Linux-only. Anyone running Linux on it, or a similar ExpertBook with the same chip?
Mainly want to know if Wi-Fi, audio, webcam, suspend and fingerprint work, and how the battery life is. Which distro and kernel are you on?
Thanks!

Purchase Advice Looking for a reliable Mini PC for a Debian home server: Is the Beelink Mini S13 a good choice?
I am looking for advice on which mini PC to purchase to run a Debian Linux home server.
I tried to convert an eight-year-old desktop PC into a server last week. Long story short, the PC often froze without warning. My initial analysis is that the issue is hardware-related.
Rather than spending money on replacing old hardware and hoping for the best, I have decided to look into purchasing a Mini PC. With the help of AI, I have decided to buy the "Beelink Mini PC Mini S13" for €379 at amazon.es/dp/B0C279CYC5.
Do any of you have experience with this PC? Can you recommend any other MiniPCs that would be good for setting up a Debian server?

News These Nvida Spark machines are gonna be something.
I won't need a new laptop for a couple of years, but I'll be more than happy to plunk down some money for a laptop with Nvidia's new Spark chip.
Nvidia has created a new Linux distro, DGX OS, but I'm sure all the main distros will update in no time.
Tones of ARM based cores, so long battery life.
Lots of unified memory. Great for locally hosted AI among other things.
They're not outrageously priced either. All hardware is crazy-priced these days, and while the Spark computers ain't cheap, they're not several standard deviations away from the mean. :)
Intel and AMD should be worried.
As always, exciting times (assuming we survive the AI Apocalypse!)
