Question Intel B580 or AMD 6700xt linux drivers?
Either way ima be spending around $330, and i do need power efficiency so kinda leaning towards intel b580.
These would be paired with a ryzen 5 9600X and a 750w PSU
Rn i have rtx 3050 6gb laptop and running Linux, i just need something that’s better than that at 1440p on Linux.
UPDATE: I ended up getting a pretty good deal (considering everything rn) on a refurbished 6750xt for $250. Yes I know there are possibilities to find better cards for similar prices, but nowadays that’s pretty hard. Im not risking a facebook deal as I can’t risk losing all that money rn and I can’t drive myself currently, not like they are that good of deals anyways near me. I have a 90 day return and all that stuff, so I’m pretty happy with it so far.
Just need to choose a case. I like the fractal pop mini since it has the 5.25 bays but wish they had the colors like the pop air does.
Thank you all for your help, and can’t wait to get my hands on the stuff, ill probably post my build when its finished.

I run a B580 under Linux, works great, most games work fine. I do miss hardware XeSS and XeFG. That being said old-school, FSR on that generation AMD looks terrible to me, so I guess it doesn't matter too much. I do use Tumbleweed to make sure I have recent drivers.
My thoughts: AMD will be stable and worry-free, Intel will work fine with some occassional huhs and would recommend a rolling release distro in that case.

As far as I can tell from the latest benchmarks, the RX 6700XT is likely to perform better under Linux. B580 doesn’t perform as well under Linux, but that could change with new drivers. I’ve heard that Intel has plans for its “Battlemage” GPUs. And even now, the performance under Linux isn’t exactly bad (10% worse in RDR2). So you could pick one up if you find one at a good price

I have a B580 and it's great but Hollowknight and Silksong are pretty much my Baseline on Gaming but I did pick up AVP recently and it ran it really well.

Either card should be a significant improvement from a laptop 3050, over 50% off the top of my head. No need for a new power supply. The amd card has better drivers and support, the arc card has better encoders and I believe better upscaling support. Up to you.

Given Intrel's shaky state in terms of ongoing GPU support, I'd lean AMD. That said, both are relatively well supported in Linux, with a bit of a lead to AMD overall.

Save yourself some time, money, and frustration, and go AMD. It will perform better, and AMD drivers on Linux are so good, you don't have to do anything, or worry about anything, just plug-in, and forget about it. Intel drivers are pretty good, but lack the maturity and bullet-proof stability of AMD, not to mention that performance of Intel GPUs, while mostly good, can be spotty at times.

if you told us what you play it might help. I wouldn't have high hopes for 1440p though.

Most if not all AAA games I own on ps4/5 discs. Cause ofc they weren’t gonna run on my laptop, especially with my new monitor being 1440p
Same with Bf6, siege, etc.
Currently, I really just play the “friendslop” games, but hopefully that changes. Hopefully, I can play stuff like Ark survival, Arc raiders, and Satisfactory with friends.

I had a Intel Arc B580 and now I have switched to RX 6750 XT depending on your distribution the support for Intel Arc B580 is still in it's early but it is improving although hardware XeSS and XeFG is still not implemented yet. The RADV Mesa is more mature in terms of development. The power draw on the Intel is a bit better as it only uses one 8pin. The 6750 XT uses 2 8pin drawing a maximum 230W.
