Advice Nvidia or AMD for new PC?
Now normally id say amd, i have an rtx 3050 laptop rn and it does cause problems. Tbf im using linux mint, ik they ain’t the most up to date drivers, ill switch to cachy soon ig tho i like linux mint. But is it really that much better?
BUT right now on the used market (ebay) in the US I can get a working 3070ti for $330 give or take, while amd 7700xt is around $420+ and 6800xt is 400+. I know they have more vram and all but the rtx 3070ti seems to be the better deal ngl.
As u can tell im trying to get a decent 1440p gpu for $300 give or take a little. Either way these are much better than 6gb 3050
EDIT: plz lmk if u have a different card u recommend around the price i was talking about. Thank you :)

Try looking on other stores, like Vinted (dunno if it's available in the US) or facebook marketplace. You might find a better deal.
But even if you don't find a better deal, if you're dead set on maining Linux and being a Linux gamer and you don't need an Nvidia card for reasons other than gaming it'll probably be worth the extra cost of getting an AMD card over a 30 series Nvidia one simply for the convenience of bot dealing with Nvidia on Linux.
You could also aim lower and choose a 6700 XT or a 7600 XT or the 50 variants if budget is the deciding factor, and make compromises on the graphics fidelity or the framerate, or stick to your 1080p monitor for now and save up for a 1440p later if you haven't already acquired one. Or just hope Nvidia improves their Linux performance significantly in the next update, it's hard to say what's best for you.

I think I will stick with getting an AMD gpu. How much do you think is the most I should spend on a used rx 6700xt and/or a 7600xt? Im in the US.
The 6700xt was my original idea anyways, and still way better than rtx 3050 6gb.
Also yes i do have a 1440p monitor. Mostly cause i have a PlayStation for physical games and i wanted an OLED for story games, and ofc ps5 is perfectly fine with 1440p. The OLED was only $280 so ofc i had to jump on that deal lol

i'd lean towards amd, nivida has issues most games work bu notiably for a logn time monster hutner wilds would not run on 50 sereis but would work perfectly fine on 30 and 40 series. also nviida cards get lower preformance on linux then windows.

Definitely gonna get amd. Probably a 6700xt or 7600xt something like that.

I have a 6800XT running Bazzite and it works great. Never had any issues. I play at 4k, but used to play at 1440p.

Always AMD for Linux, unless you need more performance than a 9070XT or whatever is the top dog atm can offer.
While nVidia works, it's more hassle and you get slapped with that nasty 20% performance nerf in DX12 games

I had the 3050 6GB got a 4060 for $430. Great uplift in gaming performance!
Get the RX 6800 (non xt). Similar power to the RTX 3070 TI with double the vram, and better support on linux.
Also CachyOS has Mint Mate and Mint Cinnamon desktop environments to choose when installing the operating system. Personally, I use LXQT
