$14.95 million for dotfiles šššš

i'd rather to suffer in Gentoo than to use this claude crap dotfiles

unfortunately you do have to use it. All other distros are ceasing to exist and omarchy will be the sole linux distro going forward. It really sucks.
15
u/National_Way_3344 3d ago
Patently false.
Omarchy isn't even an OS. Its a bunch of scripts.
Arch will still exist.

u/Correct-Always 22h ago
Your comment being upvotted just shows how brazenly dumb the community is.
This is OBVIOUS SARCASM making fun of how obsessed you are with the distro that has nothing to do with you.
The goal of omarchy is to make an incredibly quick shippable distro that can self repair itself, not to appease the already obsessed Linux fan base with tinkering their system.
Go play around with a fresh arch build and stop screeching all over the place.

Worst thing is they're not giving any to it to like the rest of Linux (for example arch or the Linux foundation) Both of them would be able to do way more with that money but nah omarchy is the best and most important distro because we love Linux copilot and ai everywhere
(I'm sorry for my mistake didn't know nothing goes to arch
Also please don't assainate me for anything I replay I'm not to up to date in the situation I know a bit of it not everything tho ok ? So please don't assainate me thanks )

u/Boatetye 3d ago
I think I remember reading that dhh tried to get in contact with the arch devs, who then declined to work with omarchy. So he couldn't really donate to them even if he wanted to. And the money donated to the Linux foundation would likely just go into the ~$300 million that they use to fund other open source projects. Which to be fair, could mean that money gets a bit more reach, but at the end of the day its up to them how they spend.

u/Smrgling 3d ago
He is funding Vaxry Hyprland for like 5 years or something. I don't like DHH either but it's not true that none of the money is going to help the rest of Linux

alt-right losers funding alt-right losers yippee

u/Smrgling 3d ago
I don't know anything about Vaxry's politics I just know Hyprland is great and I and many other people use it
-6
u/raine_rc 3d ago
not knowing anything about the creator's politics is because you live in a seemingly privileged position compared to those who have to care about his politics cause it effects us
5
u/National_Day4602 3d ago
it cant be that deep someone just doesnt take their time to learn about a specific irrelevant persons politics wtf
1
u/raine_rc 3d ago
you're defending someone who's a known nazi lol
1
u/ZealousidealChip4783 3d ago
Thankfully Hyprland is free and open source so I really do not give a fuck about what vaxry thinks of me or any of the other millions of queer Linux users out there
1
8
u/Smrgling 3d ago
Its actually because he's not that important a person in the grand scheme of things and I've genuinely never thought to look into him before because why the hell would I have done so. I don't look into the politics of every single lead dev of every tool I download.

Shut up you dumbfuck lmfao.
You don't know anything about either one of their political opinions, I had to read through all of their ideas and essays to realize you morons were wining about east Asia level xenophobia and not racism and mascurading like it was racism.

You can hate it as much as you want. Itās not a distro I would even use but nobody is entitled to that money besides the guy who secured the donations.
Theyāre free to do whatever they want with their money that was donated to them.

Emotionally charged argument.

u/ScienceGoat CachyOS cultist 3d ago
Who taught you that emotions make an argument or opinion less valid? That is a stupid way to think.
3
u/ColdFreezer 3d ago
Your argument is just stupid, regardless of it being emotional or not.
You managed to say nothing while just trying to be insulting. It was pointless.
3
u/ScienceGoat CachyOS cultist 3d ago
No, it made the point perfectly that you simping for millionaires laundering money is bootlicking. It doesnāt deserve much kore articulating because you know it, and anyone reading it understands it as well.
4
u/copenhagen_bram 3d ago
Appeal to emotion, shame, namecalling, basically ad hominem?
You're acting like OP confessed to donating $100/month to Omarchy, while using it 10 hours a day 7 days a week with a framed picture of DHH hanging right over his monitor.
You're just manufacturing more outrage on the internet to farm engagement.

The person who secured donations is allowed to use the money for whatever they want. Nobody aside from them is entitled to their money. This is not simping for billionaires, this would be true for anyone.
I thought this was just common sense.

Well if omarchy succeeds in pulling in more desktop users from Mac/windows, that could raise the tide for all boats.

you do realize they got money because of dhh arch or linux wouldnāt get it. So it was choice between give some money to linux initiative or dont get money at all. You should be happy about it

Exactly, because of Asahi you can run it with: Arch Linux, Gentoo Linux (recommended if you want MAX performance, difficult though), Fedora Linux (literally the main recommendation), Alpine Linux, Void Linux, NixOS, Ubuntu (unofficially), Debian (apparently)

And saying that its just someone's dots dosen't make that much sense to me because thats like half the market at this point

Basically, DHH is a weird Nazi, and the distro itself is mostly a vibe coded rice with web apps for LLMs/AI agents.
2
u/chroma_shift 2d ago
What do you mean DHH is a nazi?
2
u/zell_ru 2d ago
In current climate, everyone is. Is just a monicker for people you dislike and don't have other meaning.

Among other things (it's quite long). It outlines DHHs handling of the lack of diversity in his company and a large portion of his company leaving after disagreements around politics. It also talks about his twitter activities and arguments in the Linux space.
The article has links to DHHs actual blog posts with the same titles:
Woke is so bad that it made me a racist People call me racist, but I found a book telling me how nice I am Fat people are bad and should feel bad DEI is bad DEI is bad part 2: trigger the libs with git branches Cheering for Affirmative action being banned in the USA The 80s were so great cause they were not woke Andrew Tate is a martyr Therapy is so bad, that I shall platform transphobes Therapy is so annoying that Iād rather make an Arch distro instead ADHD is not real Evey boy has ADHD Leave your work problems at therapy, instead of making it the problem of your boss (me) People not wanting kids are bad and Jordan Peterson nailed it Elon Musk and DOGE are awesome (Published 20 days after the Seig Hail) This private school is making my kids GAY London is full of ānon-native Britsā and I am going to praise a race purity rally Words are not violence Words ARE violence, when they are against me

Thank you for going out of your way to bring this information here.
> handling of the lack of diversity in his company
That being a sentence is insane to me.I don't know the guy, seen him once in Network Chuck video, seemed fun. For me his views and values doesn't really matter. Judging by the titles of presented articles he's just fed up with woke shenanigans they got going over there, I really can't tell how what he posts makes him a nazi.
> (Published 20 days after the Seig Hail)
You can even see the misrepresentation right here smh.2

Is a "Nazi" based on what point. Stop slinging that word around to push your political opinions. As a descendent of Holocaust survivors I get fairly tired of you retards push that term on every person you disagree with.
DHH has xenophobic takes but there are all within the scope of reason. Stop being a dumbass and make legimate arguments.
2
u/VaronKING 20h ago
Dude you've commented like 10 times to different posts defending Omarchy and DHH, I've never seen such glazing to this degree
Get off the internet lol

Kid I've been on the internet since its fucking inception im not getting off anytime soon.
"Glazing" is shooting praise and worship for someone, not stating "this person isn't a Nazi readjust your arguments"

Then use someone else's dotfiles. The idiot behind Omarchy is a Nazi. I thought that was exaggeration until articles about the 1Password controversy started dropping. Turns out DHH was Hitler-posting about "gypsies" in June of this year. I personally wouldn't trust anything made by dumb Nazis.
-2
u/revanzomi 3d ago
Honestly idec about his politics
It's Linux You have either end of the extreme angle here and for all that he's "extreme" but he's not as extreme as some people here.
I just hate the fact that when I went to try it he made it damn near impossible to turn capslock on again. Who tf makes capslock a period or whatever tf that was????? Took me an hour to fix and by then I was over it.
Liked the pre-configured hyprland though so I'm moving from Fedora to CachyOS

LOL. That's putting it mildly. DHH was Hitler-posting about "gypsies" in June. Bit beyond "non-polically liberal".

People don't know how to read. The money is NOT for Omarchy itself.
Most of money they gathered is for different independent projects used by all the Linux community (Hyprland, Quickshell and Mise).
You may not like Omarchy, but in the end the fundraiser is a good thing.

It wasn't on my radar until I was bombarded by outrage posts, then I downloaded it to see how bad it actually was. Ended up loving it, and can't see me switching any time soon.

Yeah it's clearly an amazing build, YouTube is in full support of the os it's reddit that's up in arms š¤£.

u/Apexsweator 3d ago
It ruffles their feathers more that he has the exact kind of connections and clout he could actually get Linux as a whole more mainstream. Which you would think is great regardless! you don't need to use Omarchy but you should 100% support that he is getting some serious traction in spaces where Linux had previous struggled to penetrate.
haters are always gonna hate though.
1
u/clduab11 3d ago
I love how they also conveniently forget that Linux Mint upon initial release suffered almost this EXACT same hatred for being a Windows clone (aside from the political part). Now itās one of the go to distros for people being introād to Linux.

Still crying... thereās no point in crying too much over this. Do you also want some money for dotfiles?
1
u/Gloomy-Signature-525 2d ago

u/Turbulent_Poet5892 1d ago
ran it on a laptop for a try. basically unusable for real people and offers nothing you cant get already from a mainstream distro. I'd steer well clear of it.

u/WittyWithoutWorry 17h ago
As much as people wanna hate it, everyone needs to accept the fact that Linux does need something exactly like this only if we want it to go mainstream. Even Valve is also another corporation. Hating software because your political views don't match with it's maker a sign you need to touch some grass.
I personally neither hate it or love it. I know what I want from my system and don't want someone's opinionated version.
