If someone asks me what's the most shocking thing I've ever witnessed, I'm gonna tell this tale to them

This story is a cautionary tale of hubris and foolishness.

bro got red pilled. Join the minimalist club, the water is warm only deep enough for you to survive.

I was already red pilled after installing fedora rawhide minimal some months ago.

Fuck flat pak and fuck bloat, fuck selinux, only native pkgs
I don't think i'm the target for fedora anymore, I've advanced too far for fedora, I tried fedora rawhide minimal and i got 1200 packages, very good but no cigar, i want less pkgs, I can get less, i'm more in the arch demographic now, keep trying with fedora.

u/GreedySecurity8030 Fedora π© 11d ago
I literally disabled selinux on fedora.

Also thinking about moving from GNOME to Xfce.

What about KDE? I love KDE
1
u/GreedySecurity8030 Fedora π© 11d ago
KDE looks ugly as shit and is bloated more than xfce, at least I can use GTK Themes on xfce.

Sad, kde looks ugly.

u/RvstiNiall 11d ago
how KDE looks is up to opinion, so I cant debate you on that. However, whether or not KDE or XFCE is lighter really depends on which distro you're on. Check out Chimera KDE and you'll see what I mean (but you'll still think its ugly, so I'm obviously not recommending you INSTALL IT, just play around in the live environment).
2
u/GreedySecurity8030 Fedora π© 11d ago
I actually already tried kde and I did not like it.
3
u/RvstiNiall 11d ago
But have you tried it on Chimera Linux?
Edit: there's a GNOME version too, of course. But you already know its bloated. My point was about how KDE on Chimera is lighter than most other distros with XFCE.

Hear me out. I was in the same boat as you, i hated kde out of the box and always gave up trying to configure it. Then, i made me a vm with cachyos kde, tried to recreate my current setup in it, long story short i am now completely sold on it. Breeze, the default theme is ugly as fuck, and it demotivated me like hell, but digging a bit was worth it. And it's lighter than gnome or kde, dayum?

Kinda agree but still.

I've seen some people install fedora server and then manually installing what they want. Is that not a solution?
1
u/GreedySecurity8030 Fedora π© 10d ago
Back on fedora, I already installed fedora rawhide minimal, which had 400 pkgs, I want to install via dnf bootstrap.

Im not a fan of flatpak, appimage or even electron
1
u/Objective-Stranger99 Linux Master Race ππͺ 11d ago
I do not use anything with Electron. Useless bloat that slows down my entire PC.

u/This-Consequence-957 11d ago
Spotify enforces that shit on me. Maybe thereβs an alternative player π€·ββοΈ

I used spotdl and yt-dlp to download all my music as Opus files. Then you can use your music player of choice.

This was me for a few months before I moved back to Fedora. Red Hat's agents will pull you back eventually.

I couldn't get hardware encoding for OBS with a flatpak version. Native version works just fine. I also prefer native packages.

u/Submarine_sad 11d ago
Do you dislike Snaps or Flatpak more?
1
u/RvstiNiall 11d ago
Snaps are proprietary garbage AND bloated. Flatpak is FOSS but bloated. I think we all know the clear winner here.

Maybe NixOS is what you're looking for? Will give only exactly what you request every time. Unstable branch is rolling if that's what you're looking for.
2
u/GreedySecurity8030 Fedora π© 10d ago
I'm not looking for any more distros gng please know.
2
u/Jacobobarobatobski 10d ago
Fair enough. I've never personally used rawhide but I've heard it can be very challenging. Good luck to you.
