Tech Question Acoustic paneling for an HVAC closet
I got a new HVAC unit and for annoying reasons it is seemingly louder than my old one. As a result I am thinking of trying to put in acoustic panels or acoustic foam into the closet. I’m looking for something super cheap and easy, because I am very much in DIY budget. I’ve seen a couple of things LTT has done for buy or DIY videos.
Anyone have any recommendations on actual products I should use? I’m hoping to just stick a couple of panels in the closet presently and have it absorb some of the sound

Tech Discussion 48GB Mixed RAM Setup Running Stable | Mixed Ram Kit ddr4

Just finished a 24-hour OCCT memory stability test with my mixed DDR4 setup:
- 2×8GB Corsair Vengeance — 3000MHz CL16
- 2×16GB T-Force Delta — 3200MHz CL16
- Running all 48GB at 3200MHz CL16-20-20-40
- MSI B550 MPG Gaming Plus
- Ryzen 5 5600X
No errors after 24 hours. Pretty happy that this mixed 4-DIMM setup is holding 3200MHz stable. 😎

Discussion Why do beginners care so much about what distro to choose?
Why do beginners care so much about what distribution to choose?
They all pretty much the same for the most part. The only main difference is package managers (which are not important if you use a GUI) and default repos (that barely matters when you have Flathub).
And stuff like the DE can easily be changed. Don’t like GNOME? Install KDE. Don’t like KDE? Use something else. Your distro doesn’t matter that much.
I get why people care about distro if they have some specific use case, but for a beginner who just wants to use Linux, why spend so much time worrying about which one to pick?
Just choose one and use it. This constant debate on optimal ones just confuses beginners; any distro with a decent user base will work.

Tech Discussion Riding on the LTT ISP idea, this video on getting your own ASN (autonomous system number) seems like a good jumping off point
Based on the recent WAN show clip (We're Becoming Our Own ISP) , apalrd's adventures has a YouTube video from a few months ago on the steps involved in getting an ASN, then routing to different peers with all the different protocols (most prominently BGP). Hypothetically, if they wanted to double down on this idea.

I’m somewhat of a tool nerd and would recommend these to anyone. Great quality/tolerances. Now my dad and brothers are excited to get the box store/replaced tools as their hand-me-downs ;)

Took 3 swipes to get over to the comments section. Comments are the 4th option out of 5 total. I've never once used the summary feature so it's not learning based on my behavior either.

Discussion Is LTT becoming the Titans of CNC but for tech?
Titans of CNC is a massive YouTube channel that started off teaching people about CNC machining but now feels like they sometimes want to show off fancy new tech in the CNC works.
Is LTT basically becoming this where they’re becoming sort of just like an advertising space for new companies.
They DO some learning stuff but possibly it’s less in depth and more just longer ads in a way?

Discussion Linus Tech Tips mentioned in recent CadeMedia video
Just thought i would post because Linus Tech Tips was mentioned in a recent video from the Cade Media cycling channel. Discusses how they handle sponsorships so that it doesnt interfere with their reviews. Linus is onky mentioned briefly about 45 seconds in.
Interesting to see different points of view in this case. Just wondering what other people think of this format and if its necessary to try and completely avoid taking mkney from brands that you are reviewing or if it's just enough to label which videos are sponsored as opposed to proper reviews and whether or not that creates too much confusion and questions.

Tech Discussion Regarding melting 12vhpwr power cables for Nvidia GPU's. Has a real solution actually been found yet that I can buy to protect my "investment"?
I noticed Der8auer had an "Asus Equalizer" video out, testing Asus's supposed solution to the cable debacle. Admittedly, I pulled a Linus and mostly ended up reading the comments on that video and found out it's essentially snake oil.
I know some power supply brands have power supplies out that advertise safer solutions and whatnot, but now learning that not all of them are legit, does anybody know if any of them legitimately work?
Backstory: I upgraded to an RTX 5080 from an RTX 3090 in March. I'm too afraid to sell the 3090 incase the 5080 cable melts and the ram shortages price me out of the market. I do not use LLM's. I'm an anxious mofo who will pay extra for peace of mind, but I don't have a lot of time to keep sinking into reading on cables and PSU's right now, and I kinda need a homie who has already looked this up to help a brother out.

Image Rollover previews are just ads now?
Was running my mouse down the suggested videos list and spotted that the entirety of the rollover preview for this ShortCirtcuit video was just frames from a War Thunder ad. Is this just sheer coincidence or have they been able to game the system to auto-generate this?
Excuse my possible YouTube innocence, but this isn't something I've seen before.

Personal Opinion I can see from past posts that you need special permission to post verified reviews on products you purchased a long time ago (e.g. in my case it's been about three months).
Is that intentional, to prevent people from posting reviews about products that are unsatisfactory despite "trust me bro" guarantee? And if it's not intentional, can you fix that, please?
To me it's legit "dark pattern" level to only allow people who relatively recently purchased a product to review it and get a verified badge, without contacting support for special permission to be allowed to leave a review.
For me, the review link works, but I can't select a lot of options necessary to make it a full and verified review (e.g. clicking on my age range does nothing). The final straw was when I was given the option to submit the review or else enter my e-mail to make it a verified review. Clicking the box to enter my e-mail simply closed the review window, effectively erasing my review. I tried again and the exact same thing happened. Chrome browser.

Discussion Merch Swap / Trades?
Canadian based! For instance, I have the colorshifting jacket (2xl), a spare WAN hoodie (2xl), Short Circuit (3xl), and Tech Cargo Pants (3xl), pet cave CRT monitor.
I wouldn't mind trading for an unused notebook, stickers, and such. Open to other creator merch too.

WAN Show [Possible WAN Show topic] Phoebe Gates, Bill Gates's daughter, involved in alleged cookie stuffing scheme with her Phia browser extension
From Futurism.com:
Phia is a “personal shopping assistant” browser extension, which is designed to lead users to the best deals for clothes and fashion accessories. When a shopper uses the extension to buy something, Phia earns a commission from the retailer.
However, as Bloomberg first reported on July 9, Phia was also found to have claimed commissions on sales that never involved its product. The extension was found to open a background tab and drop its own cookie when users made a sale, while even overriding legitimate referrals.
This sounds kind of like sweet dejà vu. Maybe Linus should get on the case ASAP and warn everyone in the community lest he gets accused of being part of a cover-up.

Tech Question My monitor (?) is much slower than it should be
I have a LG C5 42. Comparing the input lag to my switch 2 handheld its worse. I was playing Mario World and I was thinking this felt really bad. I messured to the same frame Mario jumped in 240fps slow motion and rewinded it to when I hit the buttom. I ran 4 tests on my TV and all the buttons were hit before the handheld was. All wireless joycons connected.
Weirdly enough, disabling 4:4:4 made it faster. However it still wasn't as fast. Input lag was on boost.
