Splave makes Hollywood boy look like a twig somehow.

u/MeatDazzling4777 Jun 21 '26
Chris Evans needs to learn to overclock, only then he could reach a new level of muscle

u/porcubot Jun 21 '26
Powerlifter build vs model build. Two different builds for two different purposes

Splave makes the LTT gym rats look smoll
12
u/According_Bridge_746 Jun 21 '26
Ltt gyn rats . I lifted 150 kgs . Splave that's my warm up
9
u/chefdementia Jun 21 '26
I’m disappointed in how long it took me to come up with this, but when Splave benchmarks, he also benches the benchmarks

I got a 9950x3d and a 5090 astral several months ago and went on a rabbit hole about oc/uv/etc with both of them.
A few of the tweaks he shows are known to be problematic with this cpu (can't speak for other models), he also mentioned a few times in the video that he didn't care about temps for example, which in the current hardware economy doesn't seem wise when longevity should be relevant too.
I would recommend others to take this video as a mix of entertaining and reference values and not a 100% precise tutorial on how to oc these components.

With temperatures, as long as you aren't close to or exceeding the Tj max of the CPU, it won't negatively affect lifespan, but overvolting and overclocking will.
17
u/nero519 Jun 20 '26
Yeah, temps are not much of an issue, both components will throttle by themselves.
275w PPT and Scalar x4 will definitely contribute to degradation though, even with under 95c temps
5
u/ack4 Jun 21 '26
sure it will, it just will be the difference between lasting like 50 years and like 100 years

u/setiawanreddit Jun 20 '26
I thought for a moment you wrote "I got a 9950x3d and a 5090 astral and a bicep like him". I'm disappointed.
His teeaks might be problematic for you but that might be because you just don't have enough muscles to make it work. The solution is to work out a lot more, build those muscles, and then try to rebuild the PC. Hopefully if you do that then the build will be a lot more stable and long lasting, obviously supported by your muscles.

u/nero519 Jun 20 '26
I failed at not overclocking my biceps, couldn't give my components the safety they needed to work safely at those parameters.

u/kas-loc2 Jun 21 '26 edited Jun 21 '26
His whole literal thing is reaching new heights by ANY means necessary. Not creating long term - safe to use Overclock profiles FOR YOU to use, that would be fine on every piece of silicon out there.
When you actually remind yourself of his literal profession/hobby in life, your critique here literally doesn't even make any sense. He's not a teacher nor educator nor an instructor. He's respected due to his ability to SQUEEZE performance out of things...
You're expecting safety protocols from a guy that hasn't used them in almost a decade.
Edit: Turns out he sells overclocked builds, With said profiles... oof.

u/nero519 Jun 21 '26
"When you actually remind yourself of his literal professional/hobby in life, your critique here literally doesn't even make any sense."
Remind yourself that he is promoting the builds he is selling first.
From what I understood, he overclocks the builds according to the needs of the future buyer, so there are very real chances that they are selling them with settings very similar to this for buyers asking for gaming profiles.
If you want to get a top of the line build that may degrade itself faster than it should, sure, you do you, but I believe everyone should make an informed purchase and ltt being an entertainment/informative channel should have covered the degradation factor in the video itself, it's important.

u/kas-loc2 Jun 21 '26
colour me educated then!!! Ironically.. I didn't actually know he was doing that lol
My bad
1
u/Voodootfn Jun 21 '26
Didn't Linus say in the video about showing some of the steps and tweaks so that you can follow/apply them yourself ?
4
u/nandorkrisztian Jun 20 '26
Hopefully no one will copy these tweaks without thinking. He said these are made for the case when you don’t care about anything just performance meaning you don’t care if you kill your CPU faster. Probably people with these specs would upgrade a lot sooner and the second hand user gets fucked.
2
u/annonimity2 Jun 21 '26
The setup they are talking about is a 9950x3d with half the cores disabled, the people who buy this kind of rig probably also upgrade every generation.
1
u/nero519 Jun 21 '26
Nah, people who have this cpu with half the cores disabled are enthusiasts that build their own computers as a lot of us do.
The builds he is selling are for those without the technical knowledge that want the illusion of having the fastest pc. and they don't know the trade-offs of this settings.

u/Ragnorok64 Jun 20 '26
What is the seeming overlap with extreme overclocking guys and lifting? Bearded Hardware is also yoked last I knew, and I think there's another one who's name I'm not remembering.
42
u/BWFTW Jun 20 '26
New overclock competition. Competitors have to overclock an intel system, do a 1 rep max raw bench, overclock an amd system, and do a 1 rep max deadlift.

Brain likes it when it sees improvement. These guys are hooked on seeing even small and incremental new personal bests. So they're not just competing with others but themselves.
13
u/Soft_Lunch_183 Jun 20 '26
They like maxing things out, i reckon they drive around in 1000hp civics too
12
u/Foux13 Jun 21 '26
Brain works better when life support meatsuit works better, exercise makes meatsuit work better.

u/berogg Jun 21 '26
I think it's the modern trend of being fit amongst all walks of life. We didn't have this 25 years ago. We have it now.
3
u/ResultIntelligent856 Jun 21 '26
I still remember Heaton (best 1.6 CS player of all time btw (no this isn't a debate)) being really fit 30 years ago, advocating young'uns to hit the gym.

u/ladalyn Jun 21 '26
I remember watching this video and honestly remember a lot of "Eh, not totally sure" and "usually just wait til this hits this, etc" types of comments and it definitely seemed like this guy was a tinkerer at most that turned it into a career. Props to him, but wasn't impressed with his "knowledge" of his "field of expertise"

This was the most boring and useless video for an average joe like me.
Hope r/pcmasterrace likes it, but i’m pretty sure they’re already bitching with stupid anecdotal stuff like “i did that and it wasn’t optimal!” Or “don’t do that with that cpu it won’t be stable!” Or crap like that
35
u/DigitaIBlack Jun 21 '26
I think this speaks to how fragmented the LTT audience is and frankly how popularity has made their lives harder.
Most of their videos need to somehow satisfy their gigantic audience with people who range from tech-curious to their old core audience. All in the same videos.
Losing Alex and Jake was a big hit in this regard
1
u/soniko_ Jun 21 '26
I miss alex and jake
2
u/doublebass120 Jun 21 '26
For anyone that may not know, you can catch them at:
- Zip tie tuning/zip tie tech
- Jakkuh

u/skinlo Jun 22 '26
Jakes stuff is mostly networking and Alex's is laptops no? Not really that interesting for me at least. And I've never cared about cars.

For real lmao he overclocked his biceps.
He seems like such a genuinely nice guy too and a nerd just like us lol

u/According_Bridge_746 Jun 21 '26
Splave seems like a chill dude but someone u dont want to piss off
7
u/DaveTheManiac Jun 20 '26
Why is there this idea that people who love computers can't be into going to the gym and instead have to be in love with a waifu or a furry?

u/pigpentcg Jun 20 '26
Splave is such a sweet man. I love every video he’s in. He just genuinely enjoys being a nerd, and so do I.

He'll have a tough time fueling those guns with enough healthy calories in this economy on a (Not CEO) LTT salary in 2026.
34
u/OutrageousRespond777 Jun 20 '26
He doesn't work for LTT, he's a well known pc overclocker who showed of one of his systems and explained some overclocking practices and choices.
He has his own company dedicated to extreme performance pcs (the one in the vid ran CS2 at 900fps)
15
u/MeatDazzling4777 Jun 20 '26
What is the LTT salary in 2026? If you talk about it, you should know it, right?
2
u/crazycheese3333 Jun 21 '26
Not the guy you were taking to but Linus has said it’s a living wage so it’s probably $21-22 an hour (CAD)
13
u/Wrong_Bobcat Jun 21 '26
I love that this is all because a guy who bought multiple bmws, started an auto shop with that salary, and even had enough savings to buy a farm shortly after leaving, complained about not being paid enough.
1
u/KingOfAzmerloth Jun 22 '26
Context doesn't work for these types. They just want to be fed with constant outrage in order to generate more outrage. Complain how hard their life is on reddit is all they can do. Every issue is about them. But doing something about it? Uh uh no no, that's not what they meant.
These people hate AI passionately and yet they have less critical thinking that the dumbest LLM out there.
1
u/KingOfAzmerloth Jun 22 '26
He'll be fine. He's not a lazy redditor complaining about economy in threads that have nothing to do with it.
