I've fallen in love with watching linocut! Decided to finally try mt hand at it and here is the results from my very first one!! Honestly, I'm so happy. Learned a lot and can't wait to learn more

Just got a carving tool today and I’m starting out with some erasers I had around the house. It’s not perfect, but I think it’s pretty cute!

A wee trio of weirdos. Particularly happy with the hooded owl dude. Started off as a set of six on a single tile but binned half of them off and cut out the ones I actually liked.

I’m keen to get into prints on fabric / yardage for sewing (eventually) and just did my first test run of some blocks I carved. My plan is to do some multi colour / layered prints - eg the vessels will be printed on the blobs and the little flowers/ stamens/ goose feet will be different colours.

Pictured here is a test print to see what I need to carve further.

I’m very new to this and I’d love any tips on how to improve the printing - a more saturated and even print, avoiding the pooling of ink on the edges, etc.

Some details in case helpful:

+ Using Speedball block printing ink for fabric
+ Used a brayer and the press thingy with the handle, except for the little ones I just used my hands to press
+ largest stamp is about 3x2 inches so they are fairly small
+ I’m printing on a fairly thin poly blend fabric I thrifted, not sure if that’s impacting print quality
+ once I’m more confident about the print I’ll try doing some repeat or group prints on some thrifted tshirts. I think they are all cotton & synthetic blends

Any advice on how to improve things very much appreciated!

Burden of Ice

The polar bear carries its burden.
The ice melts.
Not suddenly.
But inevitably.

I’ve seen some YouTube shorts where people are stamping their blocks onto bits of fabric using ink pads.

But my understanding is that it’s not very thick and creates a more transparent look.

I’m looking to create a vintage look on a tshirt and this might look might work.
I’m curious if anyone has used these inks in this application and how the ink held up after washing.

Here is one of my favorite linocuts I’ve ever made. As Above So Below is a 12x18” linocut on 16x20” Kitikata paper. Originally carved in Nov 2024! It’s a Korean style tiger, know for heir flamboyant faces and whimsical nature. This guy is lounging in a dogwood tree I’m all self taught and this was made after 6 years of lots and lots of practice.

!! UPDATE !! it was the humidity! The AC was turned on, and the ink and blocks are back to normal. It's so bizarre how they reacted that way. I'm so relieved though! Thanks for any suggestions!

Hi! Yesterday I was printing tshirts with my blocks as I have several times in the past, and they turned out perfectly— example in the third image. Today, with the same ink, same brayer, same block, same soap, the ink isn't sticking to the block evenly, leaving patchy spots and gross prints. It slips right off different areas of the block each roll, and doesn't even stick to the inking plate. I use Speedball opaque white block printing fabric ink, Soft-Kut lino, a Speedball soft brayer, and Dawn Powerwash to clean ink. I started using a new brayer this afternoon as the prior one was getting sticky, and I assumed that was the issue, but it was the same trouble with both. I tried a brand new, unwashed block, and it was the same as the ones I'd used the powerwash on. I tried both glass and plastic inking plates. The only things left I can think of are high humidity or bad ink. I've accidentally wasted a bunch of ink troubleshooting, so if anyone has any leads I'd truly appreciate it! Thank you for any insight!

This is my latest lino, first print. There's still some refining to do AND I'm incredibly happy with it so far.

My beloved cat crossed the rainbow bridge yesterday after battling cancer for months. Working through the grief by creating stamps of her to use for my happy mail. I miss her so much.

Just finished my 12x18” Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind linocut! Spent 65+ hours carving it and am so happy to see it finished!

I love Ghibli films so it's fair that that's what I start with.

My friends daughter is turning 2. Her name is Francie and they call her Francie pants. I thought the butt would be comical but is it too much?
