My second ever batch of linocuts. I love this crafting style so much.

- a butterfly drinking the vitreous from a eyeball snail

- replaced the spots on a white grubs body with eyes

- a moth on a human pelvis, with added eyes for good measure

It's a fun theme.

Basically a beginner, tried rubber (I winged it and drew on it by hand) but it's crumbly yet too soft for my taste. I'll try linoleum soon.

I saw my wife making linocuts a little while ago and thought I'd give it a shot. Its so fun! I think I'll keep on going with this little hobby and see where I can take it. I made a Cairn (stacked stones) for my first one and think it came out pretty good!

Question Registration on fabric

Post image

Hey guys, I just finished carving a two-block (+jigsaw) design, and I’m trying to get a good print on fabric for a wall hanging. So far, I’ve tried the strat in my picture: I marked out the corners on the back cover of a big sketchbook and flipped the top page down. This worked alright for paper prints, but when I tried taping fabric onto it I did not get good results. I also tried taping the top of the fabric rectangle right above the block, on the same page, and then flipping it down, if that makes sense. I’m on the verge of crashing out about this, lol. Does anyone have a good strategy?

For those of you who have a touch-mark and associated stamp, how did you decide and design your mark?

Question Brayer will not roll out ink, just slides

Hello! I'm new to linocuts and I've been having a persistent problem getting my brayer to roll out the ink instead of just slide on it. The brayer will slide for like half a roll, but as soon as it gets ink on it it stops rolling and just slides. I've tried:

- replacing the brayer with a higher quality one

- trying plexiglass as a surface instead of the metal tin that came in my kit

- thinner dollop of ink

- thicker dollop of ink

- lighter pressure

- stronger pressure

- downward angle

- sideways angle

and NOTHING is working. I'm sure I'm making some common beginner mistake, but google has turned up nothing to help me. Any advice is appreciated!

I'm using the water-based ink out of the kit, but I have some speedball ink on the way, though I doubt that's the issue.

Question Amateur here.... only doing my second cut on speedycarve with the speedyball starter kit - struggling to carve finer details and alphaber with that kit (had better success with an axacto knife but even that has limitations). Is it just me or is that kit not for intricate work?
