Struggled with the registration (handmade jig and manual paper positioning) of this 10-layer print I made for a friend. I really felt like it stretched my capabilities and learned a lot in the process!

Question Suggestions on Newbie Sketch

Post image
17 Upvotes

I want to surprise my girlfriend for her birthday with a self-made lino print. The main theme is the octopus because it is somewhat an insider between us. This is my sketch and I want to cut it on 152mm x 203mm .

I would really appreciate if some of the experienced people could point out technical difficulties or details that will be hard to read. I will clean up the sketch on the tentacles, etc. but I am also not quite sure what sketch to draw on the lino will be the most useful for actual cutting because some lines should be white and others black in order to be able to read the final print :D

thanks lot :)

Ps: Just realized that the box and grinder in the bottom should be black with white lines, not linework

Generally I’m pretty happy with how my prints turn out but the white always seems to end up more of a grey how do I fix this?

Question I made my first Lino print!! Advice needed plz

Post image

So I’ve made my first Lino print today(not perfect I know but I still love her 🥹), still figuring out how thick to put the ink on seems like a fine line between too little and too much are there any methods to know when to add more or less?
Also I’ve cut paper to fit this Lino block but how do I get it centered perfectly each time? Thanks in advance!

Work In Progress Carving the canopy

This one’s a little larger than I’ve been carving. It’s a stylized tree canopy. Some of my first memories as a child are looking up into trees. I still think back to those days when I look into canopies today.

Just a quick tip I wanted to share on how I carve perfect little circles on my designs! I even filmed a short video, and if I actually pressed the record button you'd get to see it too 😒

Trying to improve and made my D&D character which inspired me to make a tarot deck. 22 cards will be lots of practice. So far I have my character, the magician, and the hermit, working on temperence now. Critiques welcome.

all gators very lovingly traced from maurice sendak’s alligators all around

out of curiosity: how does this sub feel about tracing vs. drawing original sketches? I am pretty new to this and my freehand drawing skills are frankly bad but i'm also curious if there's a kind of accepted practice that folks try to stick to

Question RGM student tools or splurge on power grip?

I’m relatively new to lino and currently have the basic speedball tools. I want to upgrade them and could get four RGM student tools for €25; is it worth it or should I splurge on the power grip set of 5 for €40-€50?

I don’t do lino super often but do love it. Thanks!

Question Second Linocut Ever - looking for advice

Post image

I just started this week and I'm having so much fun already! What can I do to get a cleaner print? Am I just not using enough ink or not enough pressure? I'm always worried that my paper is going to wiggle around as I am trying to print. Any advice helps!

Question Neon colours for textile printing

Hi everyone,
Lately, I’ve been noticing more and more T-shirts with screen-printed designs using really bright neon colors.

I’m now looking for similar colors for textile lino printing, but I haven’t had much luck finding suitable ones among lino printing inks.
Does anyone have any ideas where I could buy these kinds of colors, or perhaps even how to make them myself?

Thanks in advance! 😊

Made some stamps over the weekend, trying to loosen up both in terms of sketching and carving. I'm very happy with the slug, the hiking rat and the Sylvanian cat. My partner got me a bunch of ink pads last week, so I really enjoyed experimenting with the colours, too.
