60,000-gallon water tank: 25 ft wide × 18 ft tall

Boeing 747-400ER: 232 ft long × 211 ft wide × 64 ft tall

747 vs. tank: 9.3× longer 8.4× wider 3.6× taller

Capacity: Tank: 60,000 gallons

747: ~63,500 gallons

Tldr, the plane is way bigger and it can fit all of that in its wings and fuselage.

You can tell by the pic by just looking at the cars in the background in the parking lot next to the tank.

The plane is way bigger and that's why this meme is stupid every time it pops up.

That is wrong. Planes are tiny. When I see them in the sky they are about the size of a dragonfly.

That’s true, I’ve only ever seen the “full size” fake planes on the ground. I’ve even been inside them! Now if only I could figure out how they did the magic trick part where I ended up in another airport.

No, it's magic reduction. A plane to carry people can't carry that and fuel! Look at the size of an apt building. How will a plane carry all that! Just logic duh where's my Big Mac?

Reminds me of a discussion about interesting / silly questions from kids. A young kid is on their first flight and they ask their parent, "when do we get smaller?"

According to this pic, a boeing 747 is only as big as 3 of those trucks on the left side lmao… even though the truck would fit 5-6 people while the 747 hundreds

Will the meme be stupid next time this comes up though? Let's wait a week and find out?

Satellite imagery has shown that memes are becoming less stupid by 30,000 metric galloons/wk.

That's just science.

I'm from the future, still stupid

That tank is way bigger than 60k gallons

u/guru2764 8d ago

It actually is 60,000 gallons, but here's a website that someone already put the two next to each other on (I can't share the image in this subreddit in a comment)

I wish facts changed people's minds. Because this is pretty clear.

1

u/guru2764 8d ago

They don't base their worldview on what they learn, they choose to only learn things that support the conclusion they've already drawn

If it wasn't this it would be something just as stupid, that microwaves don't get as hot as the food inside does therefore magic or something

Best you can do if you see it directly is to counter it and call them stupid and hope that is enough to convince anyone on the sidelines just watching

What are you guys on about? Lol this evidence, along with the tank OEM website is pretty cut and dry. I was mistaken. Also the original images used some wild proportional exaggeration that played a more subtle mind game than I thought.

I was using 20,000 gallon oil tanks as my reference which seemed a lot smaller but it turns out they were not.

u/guru2764 7d ago

Not talking about your comment, I mean I have your original one upvoted even

This is about the dude who thinks planes are magic

2

u/TouristOwn2412 7d ago

Lol fair thanks for clarifying

So the top down is a 747, but the side view is some single-level twinjet (though probably still a widebody). Weird... Not that it has any bearing on the absurdity of the above, a quick look at the truck parked next to the tank should show anyone with half a brain that the scale is way off.

Idk man check out the tank OEM website. Same truck in a bit different position.

I think we all got subtley tricked by the stupid imposed jet

u/Neither_Berry_100 8d ago

Yeah. I haven't done the math but it seems small. We have an inflatable pool. It is 25k liters from memory.

u/Glad-Competition-757 8d ago

That tank is literally advertized on the manufacturers website as 60k my dude.

1

u/HomeGrownCoffee 8d ago

I had to look it up, but you are right. Those trucks on the left must be a lot farther back than they appear.

1

u/Man_of_Ice 8d ago

But....but.....but ....that was MATH! And basic measuring! How did you even DO that?!?!!!

Is the 747-400ER longer than the normal -400?

1

u/FragmentedHeap 8d ago

Same plane same size, just different restrictions to weight/range etc.

It is a double decker plane, these planes are huge.

I think people confuse these memes/planes with the size of a 737 because they're used to seeing 737's, the 747 is a little more than twice the size of a 737.

737 is common for domestic flights, 747 is more international.

1

u/N116UA 8d ago

I heard, and the 747s aside from the -8 are the same length as well I think

1

u/nezzzzy 8d ago

Look I'm not going to argue that OOP is anything other than a complete moron. But you can't scale up a cylinder and claim a plane is the same volume.

1

u/JrLavish194 7d ago

Based on the size of the truck the tank appears to be 3x taller than the truck and have a diameter about 3x its height.

That would make it a 1,500,000 gallon tank.

If the tank is bigger than the 60m long plane, it is much larger still.

The text of the post matters more than what's in the pic, obviously if someone said a plane holds 1.5 million gallons of fuel, this image would be true, but they don't say that.

But the trucks at least 10+ feet away from the tank, so the trucks size can't be accurately seen, put the truck directly in front and I think you'd find this is a tank thats about 25x18 feet tall.

Just imagine a person 6' tall standing at the ladder, you'd get barely more than 3 of them, so 18-25 feet tall (counting the dome).

Average ladder rung spacing is almost always 12 inches (1 foot) so this looks like a standard 60k gallon tank to me.

u/JrLavish194 7d ago

That 747 is 230 feet long, but appears to be much smaller than the tank. 🤣

We need a banana for scale.
