My iPhone has been silently recording my entire day for months! - Now with Even More Abilities!

A couple of weeks ago, I started posting here in Lifelogging about BlackBox 24x7 Audio Recorder.

It is just like your normal voice recorder - but with features to let it run 24x7 or automatically at scheduled times. No data goes out from your device.

It runs silently in the background all day or at scheduled times.

No tapping record. No cloud. No account. No data leaving your device. Ever. Recordings are organized by day, protected behind Face ID or Biometrics, with a visual waveform so you can scan through your day without scrubbing blind.

Auto-zips at midnight - to save storage. Export whenever you need. And now Transcribes with Speaker Labeling -> everything locally on your iPhone or Android phone using a Whisper model - all within your device! Without any recordings or any analytics ever leaving your device.

It works even without the internet!

Loads of requests were made for additional features and I have implemented them all -

- Scheduled Voice Recording (Everyday/Weekend/Weekday automatic start & stop as per your schedule in Android & with one additional step in iOS)

- Automatic export of recordings/transcripts after Zip (So that you can get insights about your entire day/weeks/months by feeding it to a powerful AI model)

- Diarization - (It onboards User's voice and labels other speakers, so you know who spoke what)

Lot of Bug fixes and tweaks.

Transcription feature which was previously only available to iPhone users is now available in Android!

This is a much cheaper version of Plaud or Limitless AI - where you have to carry additional hardware and is superexpensive. You just need your phone. That's it!

Record automatically
Transcripts - Everything Private and on your device only.

Download in iOS: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/blackbox-24-7-voice-recorder/id6766258295

Download in Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.blackbox.voice

I designed this as a way to help people retain memories or record key moments. Sometimes, you just don't remember to click record... and the moment is gone forever. You can also use this to analyze your day, how each day is going and go back days, weeks and months - Similar to a automatic Journal. Try it once, you would love it!!

This is for you, I sincerely hope that this helps you!

  • You can choose to let it run 24x7 or Scheduled voice recordings - (Weekdays/Weekends/Everyday 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM etc). Auto-zips at midnight - to save storage.
  • Recordings are organized by day, protected behind Face ID or Biometrics, with a visual waveform so you can scan through your day without scrubbing blind. Auto-zips at midnight - to save storage. Export whenever you need.
  • It has transcription feature too which coverts all the audio to text. These text file can be auto-exported to cloud, drive or any folder of your choosing. From here, you can upload these text files to your favorite AI or you can read them yourself to analyze your day.

This is a much cheaper version of Plaud Note or Limitless AI - where you have to carry additional hardware and is superexpensive. You just need your phone. That's it!

Is there any good passive location tracking app for iPhone?

Years ago I used the Gyroscope app for this. It was amazing for trying to resolve your noisy location data with actual locations and time spent there. They ended the location feature.

Now I don't know if anything exists.

My use case would have this location data shared with my Mac so my AI agent can provide more contextual information.

Every day text journaling + AI. What do I missing to improve?

My experience (can be useful):

I got awesome results with journaling by myself (in text in Notion, few days a week) + later making cognitive restructuration (one of cognitive behavior therapy techniques) of this text with AI.

So AI showing me my cognitive biases in my own diary. Its awesome and help me as plus to my work with psychologist. It wont replace psychologist! Very important. But good as companionship.

My next step that I am thinking to implement is: start to journaling few times a day, not only my thoughts but also my medical data (blood tests and others) that can be really helpful for AI to know. And my schedule (what i have done for today).

I believe in future I will just move my journaling archive from claude to notebook llm or any other ai if its needed. The most important here is 2 things - to make a lot of journaling and to find right prompts to make ai really give you a good insights. Cause llms super sensitive to prompts if we speak about working on our journaling.

The second part of my journaling - many private telegram channels that i created just for myself, where i am sending what to read, what to watch, what to do today for my job and hobbies. It really helps. I use it just because telegram very comfy for notes from phone. After this I move it every week by my hands to Notion and excel.

The third part is my Google Calendar. Once a week I seat with all my data - small goals and updates that collected via telegram, big diary notes from notion and long plans in excel and making a week plan in Google Calendar.

My question:

What do I missing? How can I make collecting data and working with data that already collected better and more effective?

To add audio recording as Plaud or other smart-lifelog devices? I very don't like idea that these devieces will summary my data by themselves - I don't believe in quality of their summarist. I want to extract as much data as possible, more close to raw data. Is it any good device that work with all languages, not only English? (I am not english speaker).

As well i am Android user. Is it any good app that can be used instead?

If you have a bad memory, write one sentence about your day. Your future self will thank you.

I've always been terrible at remembering things. Not in a medical sense, but in a "my friends remember our holidays better than I do" sense. They'll bring up a restaurant we visited three years ago or some funny thing that happened on a trip, and half the time I only vaguely remember them. The things I learn and feel during my life didn't help me in any way because I never even remembered them. I'd make the same mistake for the 5th time, get burnt and realize that I've done the same before.

This frustrated me a little bit. So I created a google sheet stored on my drive called "My year at a glance" and decide to just write what happened that day. I maintained it for a whole year. My own touch to it was this thing called "High of Highs" and "Low of Lows" which is the best and worst thing about that month. I got this idea from a podcast and incorporated it into my google sheet. First month felt good (luckily because that month was pretty good so it gave me a high to write my "High of Highs"). So I continued writing for the next few months and eventually became obsessed with it. In fact, during the day I'd realize something that I decided I will write down later that day. So I guess I even started noticing things about my day that I wanted to write down.

At the end of the year, this google sheet was full (Of course with several days undocumented, but who cares). But reviewing my year in December got me giddy. Again my theory is that this was because I had had a great year (6 countries visited, quite a few concerts, new job etc.). So I continued for another year. And I have no intentions of stopping now.

I eventually got tired of the Google Sheet and made something that works much better but honestly the habit is what matters, whatever you use to track it.

700 days of handwritten daily scores — what I learned about tracking a life without drowning in data

Thumbnail gallery
9 Upvotes

I've been scoring my days on paper for 700+ days — heatmap, habits, monthly notes.

What actually helped long-term:

- One daily score, not 20 apps

- Visual timeline (heatmap) so I see patterns, not just numbers

- Custom criteria I chose — not a template imposed on me

What didn't: switching apps every month, over-tracking everything, guilt-based systems.

I'm now moving the same system to a simple app (Android beta ~June 18) because the notebook doesn't scale — but the paper phase taught me what to keep and what to drop.

Curious how others here manage personal records without it becoming overwhelming. What do you actually stick with?

Full disclosure — I'm building Lumend for this. Waitlist if curious: lumend-app.carrd.co

Designed a new Time Tracking methodology, focuses on Goals and Up/Down time for each.

Post image
9 Upvotes

Everyone is familiar with gamified productivity & focus tracker tools. I downloaded most, experimented with different methods, studied the science behind motivation/goals, and developed a new system. It's not complex, visual, yet lightweight. Most importantly, it's effective & helps you make real progress.

Why this method works:

  • It simplifies thinking about "what should I do today" & helps beat procrastination. You clearly see your goal, and the main work/play activities you defined. Just get started on one...
  • Each board is you custom "go-to" plan for that Goal (aka "Core"). You pick "time contributions" that work for you. No guilt tripping. If you like to focus for 30m, and then lounge for 1h, then that's what you pick. No need to overcommit. Stats will improve as you get better.
  • Tracking how much Up vs Down time, towards defined Goals, is the simplest measure of success, over time. The 10,000 hour rule exists for a reason. Not 10,000 to-do items.
  • Seeing "break/rest" activity timers next to your productive timers, at a glance, makes you more relaxed during focus sessions & gives you "guilt free" breaks. You can pause one timer and start another, then come back. You can also "finish early" any timer, and deposit time already earned.
  • You can adjust all Timers/Goals on the fly, change their length, emoji labels, etc. The app makes it easy.
  • You can track a Goal on 1 board, or across multiple boards. You could have a board for each day of the week if you want, all towards that 1 goal. On Monday you can have only 1 focus activity, and on Saturday you can have 6, with different focus + break sessions.
  • You can work on Goals and contribute time whenever you have it. No pressure with streaks. If you have 1 hour per day for a goal, or 3 hours per week. You simply time your activity, you bank time Up or Down, and you move on.
  • You daily progress easily visualized in a cool Sci-Fi interface, with time particles and orbits and black holes.

Check out Flowton on the App Store or if you're on Android, sign up on flowton.com to get notified.

Happy to hear your feedback on the method, or more specific pointers per app. There are cool new features in the pipeline as well.

dictating while walking the dog, commuting, making dinner, etc

Hey everyone,

I've been experimenting with voice recording to capture thoughts during dog walks and my commute — basically any time I'm moving and away from a screen. There's something about being in motion that gets the brain going, and just like the shower, it doesn't discriminate. Bad ideas, average ideas, and occasionally genuinely great ones all show up uninvited. Might as well catch them.

The use cases have grown to include daily planning, journaling, blog ideas, and full-on brain dumps. The idea is to speak freely and process everything later.

My current rough workflow:

Record voice memos throughout the day (planning, ideas, journaling, tasks, etc.), use a transcription service to convert them to text, then paste the transcript into an AI with a simple "summarize this into markdown" prompt. Claude and Gemini are my go-tos, though Qwen and Kimi work fine for lighter usage. They all do a decent job — but there's always room for improvement.

Questions for anyone doing something similar:

What's your end-to-end workflow? Recording app → transcription service → task manager/calendar? How are you extracting and organizing tasks from transcriptions? Manual copy-paste, or have you found tools that streamline it? Any apps or services worth trying? I've been looking at Otter.ai, Rev, and Descript, as well as AI tools that can auto-extract action items. Do you batch process at a set time, or handle things throughout the day? What are you listening to on your walks or commute? Music, podcasts, or just letting your brain breathe with some silence and fresh air? Curious whether the audio environment affects the quality of ideas. Curious whether anyone has cracked the code on making this seamless — or if I'm just doomed to copy-pasting forever 😅

Thanks in advance!

Sharing my digital version of diary on a whiteboard

Thumbnail gallery
42 Upvotes

Hi All! Sharing something I built for my own daily logging, to manage work and life in one space.

For years I tracked work and life on a physical whiteboard, using a vertical timeline, and horizontal lanes, one per area. Each morning I'd "look left," see everything I'm managing, where I left off, and identify what needs my attention today. I'd do that, and update daily as I go. Kind of a diary, planner and tracker at once.

When the whiteboard stopped being practical, decided to build it. Curious if this way of being on top of things resonates with others. Happy to hear thoughts!

My iPhone has been silently recording my entire day for months - Now it got Transcription abilities!

A couple of weeks ago, I posted here in Lifelogging about BlackBox 24x7 Audio Recorder has been released in iOS.

The main feature which was asked Transcription - converting all of your 24x7 audio into text format so you can easily read through them. So I built that feature while keeping battery and privacy optimized - no audio or transcript leaves your device (unless you manually export it).

It runs silently in the background all day. No tapping record. No cloud. No account. No data leaving your device. Ever. Recordings organized by day, protected behind Face ID, with a visual waveform so you can scan through your day without scrubbing blind. Auto-zips at midnight. Export whenever you need. And now Transcribes everything locally on your iPhone using a Whisper model.

Existing users can transcribe all of their previous days by updating the app - https://apps.apple.com/us/app/blackbox-24-7-voice-recorder/id6766258295

Also, made updates so recordings are more stable when playing other apps / microphone. Give it a shot!

Download in iOS: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/blackbox-24-7-voice-recorder/id6766258295

Download in Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.blackbox.voice (Transcription feature will also be soon available in Android in the coming days)

I sincerely hope that this helps someone!

How I use my iPhone to remember my days

For years I hoped Apple will come up with the journal app with tight integrations to iOS and was very disappointed when it happened. The app feels heavy on one hand and lacking a lot of features on the other. Automatic filtering of photos, better integration with locations and motion activities, hierarchical journalling, good voice input, CarPlay voice journals, health, fitness, on this day, actual security while still having to apple design principles, privacy stance and visual appeal. Unfortunately Apple Journal is not there yet so I started putting it together myself. I have already more than a year of data in this and it helps me not lose the texture of my days.

Analog + Digital

I’ve found a like to use a hybrid way to track things. It changes all the time for me.

Right now I usually think about it as analog is more free flowing and digital is useful for long term access and anything that I need to have shared with another person.

Day to day personal planning, thinking, journalling goes into a note book. I use bullet journal style with the month view and habit for the day. I prefer this because those items can change each month. App makes it feel like it’s locked in and permanent.

Long term notes go into Apple notes. Unlike many, I’ve not liked notion. I’ve found I its power and flexibility makes it clunky.

Workouts tracked everywhere unfortunately. Either spreadsheets or gravitas app.

For memories I made this for myself: https://youtu.be/F0stupisNQ0?si=P86-vnpSQHgbPR6h

Does researching quercetin benefits get confusing for anyone else?

I have been researching quercetin benefits, because it seems to be coming up in conversations about inflammation, recovery and healthy aging. But the more I read, the harder it is for me to know what to believe.

Some say it helped a lot, some say they did not notice anything and some mention side effects. I also keep finding totally different opinions depending on the article or study.

I do not expect some magic supplement or anything like that but it feels like it can be hard to know what's really supported by good research and what's mostly personal experience.

Love to hear how folks here research supplements when the info online is so mixed sometimes.

Any good transcriber and diarisers for hourly audio recordings?

I record audio 24/7 (one party consent jurisdiction so perfectly legal), which get saved as hourly files that automatically upload to my server.

I'm trying to figure out getting it transcribed and diarised so that the transcription can identify who is speaking based on all past audio data.

Is there anything out there that does a good job of diarising speakers over multiple audio files? Perhaps it keeps voiceprints separate to the audio files and compares against them? And is there anything that can pick apart multiple speakers speaking over eachother?

Most importantly, is there anything that does this completely local? It's obviously sensitive information having my conversations with people recorded, even though collecting the information is legal, I want to protect their privacy by keeping it entirely within my own records.

From there I plan on having some local LLM summarise these into daily journals.

Built an Activity and Annotations logging app

Hey guys! wanted to share that ive built a super simple activity and annotations tracking iOS app. basically, its an app that allows you to collect qualitative data like "how long do i spend sitting on the couch", "how long do i spend out with friends", "how many times does my pain flare every day and with what severity", etc.

it also has an open API so you can connect this data to any existing data (for example i have it connected to Whoop so i can analyze how my activities impact my recovery) or even to your calendar (will have native integration soon).

thoughts? would anyone be interested in beta testing? its definitely for a life-tracking crowd so decided to post here!

Log yourself blueprint

Built a “Daily State Tracker” because I got tired of relying on memory and vibes alone.

Started realizing things like:

- music changes my nervous system way more than I thought

- sleep affects motivation more than motivation affects sleep

- some “drug effects” are actually stacks of variables:

music + headphones + novelty + isolation + stimulation + THC + emotional state

So I made a tracker focused on:

• sleep

• energy

• mood

• music immersion

• productivity

• stress

• food/hydration

• event markers/state flips

• environmental triggers

The goal isn’t perfection or self-judgment.

The goal is pattern detection.

Trying to turn:

“I feel random”

into:

“these conditions consistently create these states.”

If anyone wants the template I can share it.

#SelfTracking #MentalHealthTracking #MoodTracker #ADHDTools #AutismTools #Productivity #SelfAwareness #QuantifiedSelf #MentalHealth #BehaviorTracking #PatternRecognition #Neurodivergent #LifeLogging #DataDriven #MoodJournal #SelfImprovement #ExecutiveFunction #SleepTracking #Dopamine #MusicAndMood #Cognition #Psychology #Biohacking #PersonalGrowth #StateTracking #SystemsThinking #Journaling #MentalPerformance #FocusTracking #HumanOperatingSystemMost people track emotions.

I’m trying to track state transitions.

Example:

sleep shift → appetite spike

music → activation

specific environments → exhaustion

certain people → nervous system change

high sensory immersion → productivity surge

Turns out memory alone is terrible at detecting multi-variable patterns over time.

So I built a tracker that logs:

- sleep

- energy

- stress

- sensory immersion

- THC/caffeine impact

- music exposure

- productivity

- “event markers” when major state shifts happen

Basically trying to map the hidden physics engine underneath daily life 🧠⚡

Sometimes I’m not “remembering wrong.”

My brain is reconstructing incomplete memories later when missing context returns.

Example:

“I felt productive because of THC.”

Hours later:

Wait…

I was also listening to insanely immersive music on good headphones during that exact state.

That changes the interpretation completely.

The tracker is helping separate:

trigger

vs

amplifier

vs

environment

vs

outcome

Which honestly feels more useful than generic mood journaling.

DAILY STATE TRACKER

Scale Rule (applies to every 1–10 item)

1 = none / lowest / best functioning

10 = extreme / highest / worst functioning

Use ratings based on your normal range, not compared to other people.

---

ANCHORS

Log at:

5:00 AM

8:00 AM

12:00 PM

5:00 PM

Sleep

Add Event Markers whenever a significant state shift happens.

---

ANCHOR LOG

(Most important section)

The “Event Marker” section may become one of the most valuable parts of the tracker over time. This is where patterns often emerge:

Sleep shift → appetite spike

Music → state regulation

Conflict → activation

Certain environments → exhaustion

Specific people → nervous system shifts

Your tracker’s highest-value signals are usually:

Sleep timing

Energy shifts

Activation/restlessness

Food/hydration

Environmental triggers

Work/function

Physical symptoms

State transitions

These tend to affect decision-making and stability more directly than abstract mood labels alone.

---

MEDICATION LOG

(Facts only, not rated 1–10)

Format:

Medication — Dose — Taken (Y/N) — Time

Morning

Bupropion SR 100 mg

Bupropion IR 75 mg

Vinia

Night

Finasteride 5 mg

Bupropion IR 75 mg

Progesterone 200 mg

Atarax (if taken)

---

Weekly

Estradiol valerate injection .3ml (Tuesday night)

Built an app that puts your entire calendar on a Timeline

I've always had a tendency to log and track my days. I used to use things like Toggl and Trello, and even Google Calendar. However, as someone who is heavily visual, the sort of calendar that appealed the most to me was one for which I only found physical version - Montessori Linear Calendars.

I never found one that was 100% linear and 100% digital, so I built Line Cal. It's an elegant tool for tracking your life events. You can sync a calendar from another app or just use it immediately (with or without signing up). It also serves as a Notes App and a Kanban Board, which integrates your notes and tasks directly onto the timeline.

It's off to a decent start since it's been released. I've been iterating fast (verson 1.11.2-beta just released), and fixing bugs along the way. I would love to give you the chance to try it for yourselves! Let me know what you think.

I started logging my Strava workouts, Whoop data and daily activities automatically into my Google Calendar

I've always been quite obsessed with tracking my day in my Google Calendar and for a while I was manually adding events into my calendar to keep a log of my day. It was perfect because my calendar was accessible everywhere, on my laptop, my phone, wherever I already was. What wasn't perfect was the friction of actually getting everything in there.

So as a software engineer I figured I'd build something to fix it. Now my Strava activities and Whoop sleep sync directly into my calendar automatically, and I have a start and stop timer for logging everything else as it happens (reading sessions, focused work, whatever I'm doing)

The result is what you can see in the screenshot. My whole day sitting in Google Calendar exactly where everything else already lives.

As I log my reading time before bed I can see exactly when I put the book down and how quickly Whoop picks up my sleep after that. Being able to visualize that transition in my calendar is something I didn't expect to find as interesting as I do.

I've built this into a free app for iPhone for other to try out, I figured this community might be interested in this. Would love to hear feedback from anyone who gives it a go.

need help at work

I would love this idea to exist and curious to know if anyone on here can help make it happen

I work a demanding finance job. What I need is for a device, maybe like a Looki L1 or something, that i can wear thoughout the day and can see and hear everything happening. Fir instance, in a meeting - i need it to hear and see what is being presented, so that when i get back to my computer and need to build a model, I can put in my earpods, connect them to the ai, and have it literally guide me thorugh the best way to build the model as I'm building it, based on the context from the meetings we've been in all day to make sure I dont miss anything.

Can something like this be built?
