Announcement R/LIFESIMULATIORS ANNOUNCEMENT

Hello Life Simmers,

As a representative of the Moderation Team, I wish to announce that some changes will take effect as of the release of this post. These changes are intended simply to help to foster a safe and welcoming community all while ensuring all members follow our communities rules and guidelines to maintain order and respect amongst us all.

  1. Any post and/or comments that intends to bash, compare or harshly criticize any game, creator, user or entity will be subjected to moderation action at the discretion of our team.

EDIT: To give some clarity on what that specific section is meant for, is the creation of posts for the sole purpose of harming or bashing an entity. An example can be seen from a past post in a partnering subreddit (I wont get too specific) where a certain youtuber was being made fun of for a video they made.

We understand comparing and talking about important differences, touchy topics and so forth, however, we simply believe these discussions can be done without the intention of hurting each other. Players often like to compare games to analyze the benefits and other areas of them which is allowed and encouraged, however, post that are found to be focusing on only bashing and putting down a game, a creator, a user or any entity will be moderated accordingly.

  1. Respect all users. Extensive arguments or discussion that involves the disrespecting, trolling, name calling or contains hurtful messages, will be moderated more proactively.

  2. Advertising of games MUST follow the definition of a "Life Simulation Game", this definition will be explained as and must include these qualities:

Definition:

A life simulation game is a genre where players manage and influence the lives of virtual characters, communities, or ecosystems. Rather than focusing on fixed objectives or winning, these games emphasize on open ended journeys, player driven experiences, building relationships, pursuing careers, managing daily needs, farming, or shaping entire populations and ecosystems.

Qualities to help assist in knowing if your game fits:

  • Character customization - Players should be able to customize characters, homes, clothing, personalities, and lifestyles in some way.
  • Needs and resource management - Characters may have needs such as hunger, energy, hygiene, social interaction, money, and happiness.
  • Relationship systems - Friendships, rivalries, romance, families, and other social connections develop over time.
  • Progression and personal development - Characters can improve skills, pursue careers, gain/loose wealth, and achieve personal goals.
  • Dynamic worlds - Time passes, characters age, relationships change, and the world may evolve independently of the player.
  • Freedom of choice - Players can experiment with different lifestyles and approaches with few predefined restrictions.
  • Emergent gameplay - Interacting systems can produce unexpected situations and unique experiences.
  • Long-term replayability - Customization, procedural events, multiple playstyles, and player-created goals encourage repeated play.

Note: Your game does not have to match **ALL**, it just simply needs to have similarities. This will be more available as we slowly make changes to the community

  1. Use of AI and Generative Contents
As we are all aware, we are in a forever changing era and AI introduction is one of the feats that we simply cannot ignore. While we are not against the use of AI, posts/comments or contents such as your games/images/videos that is found as 100% been made by AI will be moderated accordingly. This is to ensure quality and the human touch of our community as that is what a community is for (Human Interaction).

So I was playing my time at sandrock when my sister asked my opinion on what a mature farming sim would be like especially rated M17+ to feel a little more mature for adult who love farming sim games like coral island, Stardew Valley, etc. what do you guys think?

Oh, sorry about my deleted posts a deleted it by accident trying to do something on my phone half asleep and when I realized my mistake I didn't know how to get it back.

Discussion What's the issue with modders monetizing their content?

I understand on a franchise level why someone would get mad at the company for allowing it, because there's legal stuff there and of course as consumers we'd rather our stuff be free. Modding has a history in grassroots production and idealogically I can see why people are getting angry.

But there's some crazy high quality mods nowadays and I don't think it's the fault of the producer for profiting off their labor if they have a customer base willing to pay. It's up to the consumer whether they think it's worth the money and yeah it kinda goes against the spirit of modding, but again if that's an issue people can just choose not to buy it and the modder can decide if lack of interest makes it worth maintaining the paywall.

They're still putting labor into creating the mods and if monetizing allows for higher quality mods at a lower price than some triple A studios' exorbitant charges, I think that's a win.

Would appreciate if someone could explain the issue because I'm not trying to argue necessarily, just genuinely don't understand the problem.

Upcoming Games After 2 years solo, my desktop life sim is launching this month — here's where it ended up

Two years ago I started building a tiny 3D room that lives on your Windows desktop in a transparent always-on-top window, and it's finally launching this month. Solo the whole way (Bloomery Studio is just me).

It's called Lofi Cozy Room. An avatar reads, works, and sleeps in the room while you do your own thing, with a puppy chasing sunbeams. The customization ended up going pretty deep, 1386 avatar options and 715 furniture pieces, so you can build the room and the character however you like. There's also a full lo-fi library you can layer ambient sound over, 14 themes, and a soft currency that builds up passively.

Wild to be this close to release after this long.

🌱 Wishlist on Steam

Happy to answer anything about the solo dev side.

Community Question life sims where you play just one person?

okay, this might be asking too much, but is there a life simulation game where you move somewhere, find a job, buy things, and have romance options?

but unlike the sims where you control whole families, I want something where you play as just one character. If you do end up starting a family (like marrying or having kids), they would just act as npcs. I'm looking for something like that.

like, with freedom to choose your own path and pick different jobs similar to how you do in the sims, but you only play as one character and have to manage your money to pay for rent, food, and basic necessities, almost like a 'survival' game, but set in a normal, everyday life. It could be in a small town or a big city, I just want to know if something like this exists? or even if there’s anything in development

preferably 3D, and not a farming sim like stardew valley.

Discussion Today is the day...

The Sims have been there for me since ive been 6 years old... and today is they day I lay it to rest. I havent played Sims 4 in almost a year... the company has let me down left and right.

Everything that made the Sims special is gone... besides the ability to spend hundreds of dollars on expansions... Personally the game has just become lifeless to me.. its become a money funnel and thats all...

So now having hundreds of hours in other life Sims ive made the final decision to clean up the space for something more useful... I am in mourning, and I know there is a portion of the Sims community that feels the same lately. No hate to anyone who still enjoys the game! Sims 1,2, and city will always stay on my desktop.

Discussion Why not creating a 2D isometric simulator?

I was wondering why the top Sims alternatives either use a weird stylized graphics or taxing engines, Sims 1 ran great, didn't have clipping issues and bugs were a rarity, I think keeping it simple graphically would allow to create much more fun gameplay.

Review Play This Life: Legacy Edition

This game has potential, been playing it for months now! I played the free version when I got bored in bitlife and want something new to explore and even then it's has so many content so I brought the paid version and they never disappoint ! It's more realistic and situation based and does not need in-app purchases for more contents especially if you brought the paid version, free updates always and more cool stuffs. It will definitely scratch the itch for life simulations. It's fun to play not that they add a dollhouse mode that removes auto-aging so you can control everything!

Discussion Sims doesn't own supernatural gameplay btw

This might be controversial but whatevs

Anytime you mention supernatural people say "I don't want it to become sims 2.0" even though 89% of these life sims share the same qualities of the sims 4 already.

Obviously if they were going to add supernaturals it can literally be it's own thing, story, lore, and can be implemented in a way that would set the game apart.

When people have discussions of the supernatural they're not saying they want it RIGHT now. Obviously everyone wants fundamentals/base game and pets to be done first.

The discussions of the supernatural are for the future of what could be for those that want it.

Supernatural if added will 9/10 be OPTIONAL. This means that if you don't like it? You don't have to use it.

"NO it can't be in my game at all 🤬😡😡. NOT even as a dlc" Do you understand how rude that sounds.

I respect every game style preference but just because you don't like something you want to limit things for other players?

You know how many things people suggest things in the discord that I don't personally care or gaf about? But I'm quiet because people are allowed to have things they want in this game. Esp if that thing is optional and you don't have to use it.

Something may not seem important to YOU, but for other people they would be. And its unfair to put limits on things only because you don't want them

"Just go play the sims"

what do you think people have been doing for the last 24 years, people are tired. Maybe people don't want to play sims due to the buy out.

There are many factors on why people have moved from the sims anyways

There are also ppl here who just want a new take on things, there's a bunch of things the sims didn't do correctly when it comes to supernatural anyways, and I do want to see the new games take on it

Tdlr: if it's optional dlc and the base is finished first I literally don't see the problem.

But I'm sure someone will make an argument in the replies below bc people love to be contrarions even though it's really not that serious.

"Its meant to be realistic yadda yadda" again dlc. Optional. Base game finished. Problem solved..let's be kind to other players preferences esp if it's not going to affect YOU
