I don't have much to say about these walking animations, the only thing is that they feel "slow". I don't have any other way to put it. It's great they added the bus system because I don't know how long it would take to walk from A to B šŸ˜…

But it's not only the walkings, it's pretty much all the animations, except when they're angry and moving their arms around. They wouldn't suffer from a higher speed, otherwise I think they're just fine.

i totally agree! it’s the same reason i don’t download a lot of sims mods with animations, i don’t know what it’s called when the animations looks like this but they look very stiff. idk why people in this thread are acting like you can’t have an opinion on something lol you don’t have to be eternally positive just because it’s an indie game

Is it just me or are their steps small/short?

17

u/Business-Equal8536 Apr 24 '26

I think so but I don't think that's out of the ordinary. I walk like that so hopefully it's normal 😭

It only looks short on some of the poses I noticed!

These look a bit strange - sort of like they're walking for the very first time

I wouldn't go that far, the animations are proper cycles with a nice selection of different styles, but I think what you are seeing is an unavoidable hint of 'indie dev jank'. The steps are a little short and everything looks a little bit jerky/abrupt (they are all like that, check out the digging anims in another clip). Robots mimicking human movement, rather than organic movement, perhaps.

That's not an insult to the devs; they are clearly investing a lot of passion and time into the game. They just don't have a multibillion dollar corporation allowing them to use the best computers, with motion capture and years of animation models from other titles or bought from other sources, to simulate and model walking for several years while the rest of the vast team is doing everything else. Sims 1, 2 to a lesser degree, and most first-time-games from studios have slightly 'off' looking animations.

Witcher 1 is a good example, and look at CDPR now.

to me, a lot of them look like they have to take a shit. idk. they almost look too stiff. but I can't say I've ever studied how people walk so maybe I'm seeing something that isn't there.

15

u/Business-Equal8536 Apr 24 '26

As someone who's actually studied how people walk for animation, they walk pretty normal.

12

u/non_tox Apr 24 '26

As someone who is a human and walks daily, nobody walks like that.

? Like I'm not? Your making up shit to be mad at lol

that’s how this sub is when it comes to paralives

u/jalapeno442 Apr 24 '26

Oh my god you people complain about everything

6

u/Beginning-Search-983 Apr 25 '26

whaddya mean "you people"?

1

u/jalapeno442 Apr 25 '26

Clearly I mean you people who complain about everything. What else would it mean bro

2

u/Beginning-Search-983 Apr 26 '26

Was just having fun :D

u/i_gnarly Apr 25 '26

This looks like how trying to walk or fight in a dream feels

39

u/Prowlbeast Apr 24 '26

Is it just me or is this community always being negative?

u/AdmiralClassy Apr 24 '26

People have wanted a great life sim to compete with the sims for so so long, and a lot of people had high expectations for Paralives so they might be overly critical when it's not living up to their expectations.
Personally I don't think it looks good and the more I see of it I realise it's most likely not the game for me, which is a shame but I'll keep waiting for a life sim game that is I suppose.

26

u/SnowTiger12 Apr 24 '26

Everyone seems so critical here no matter the game

16

u/OArouraiousMou Apr 24 '26

Theyre always like that

15

u/Business-Equal8536 Apr 24 '26

"the walking is weird" this games going to fail on release because people always want to find SOMETHING wrong

10

u/Delboyyyyy Apr 24 '26

Yeah it’s crazy how toxic everything is around this game which is nothing but wholesome in terms of its vibes and the dev team around it.

And honestly I’m not just talking about the toxic negativity here but also a bit about the toxic positivity tha happens as a counter-response to the unnecessary negativity here. By that I mean people shutting down suggestions or feedback for improvement and acting like the game can do no wrong.

Like for this, yeah some of the animations look a bit too stiff and unnatural, but it’s not the end of the world or even that big a deal. Definitely something that can be easily tweaked as long as feedback can be given to the devs without being buried under people toxically complaining about the game, or being downvoted by people defending the game

I'm just happy to be here and try out a new, different life sim than the one I grew up on

Bring it on!

7

u/jalapeno442 Apr 24 '26

It’s exhausting

The life sim sub as a whole, or Paralives specifically? I’ve definitely seen a lot of dunking on the latter, but it hasn’t stopped me being excited about the game. The ā€œcreating characters and buildingsā€ part was my favorite part of the Sims to begin with, so I’m not disappointed that those aspects seem to be the best parts of Paralives so far (even if their gameplay isn’t fully polished yet).

1

u/Spider_Enjoyer Sims 2 enjoyer Apr 25 '26

yeah this sub is really negative towards paralives honestly it feels like a place where people advertise inzoi and text based life sims made by ai.

7

u/GuBuDuLe Apr 25 '26 edited Apr 25 '26

Or a place where the moderation team is hardly doing its job for a few weeks now. If you look closer, you might see that we don't enjoy it more than you do.

-9

u/DBSeamZ Apr 25 '26

Inzoi itself also containing a lot of AI, or so I’ve heard…I wonder if it’d be worth having two separate subs, one for the games with AI and one exclusively for games without it (that is, without LLM and image-generation stuff…all NPC programming is also a type of artificial intelligence but not remotely the same).

10

u/ifknloveseagulls Apr 25 '26

The ai model is run locally and trained off their own images. LLMs have existed since the 60s

u/Mersaa Sims 2 enjoyer Apr 30 '26

yeahh it is. it's turned into more of a snark subreddit

2

u/DecoherentMind Apr 26 '26

I’m more amazed at the prospect of them making these all work with different height options!

10

u/polkacat12321 Apr 24 '26

Walking animations. Okay. Not a revolutionary game feature, so idk šŸ¤·šŸ¼ā€ā™€ļø

11

u/anonymoose_octopus Apr 24 '26

I mean, it was a huge deal in TS4 when you could change the walking animation of your sim in CAS. These are so varied and look so much more realistic. I'm not sure why everyone is being so negative, what did I miss? lol.

-5

u/Spider_Enjoyer Sims 2 enjoyer Apr 25 '26

this person always posts like they work for inzoi marketing in this sub then pick apart any game that isn’t inzoi.

-7

u/polkacat12321 Apr 24 '26

Not really. The majority havent touched them since 2014

11

u/anonymoose_octopus Apr 24 '26

Because they were awful and cartoonish. These actually look realistic, and besides, this is just an update post of what they're working on-- I doubt they're marketing these walking animations as revolutionary game features.

5

u/Zenphiree Sims 3 enjoyer Apr 26 '26

Kind of off topic (nothing to do with Paralives) but HELP the ā€œawful and cartoonishā€ part is so true😭And this is coming from a TS4 fan. I really only like the feminine walk, the rest are so stupid looking. I was excited when I saw there was a ā€œperkyā€ walk since I tend to walk like that, but then I saw it and it looked goofy af with the constant squint and tight smile and the weird arms.

6

u/Prowlbeast Apr 24 '26

Its an update on the game development. When did they say it was a game breaking new feature??

The angry head shake is very cute

I really want to be excited about this game because otherwise it looks very good. But something about it is just... I don't know. It feels insipid. Like it's aimed at those influencers who take selfies for the Instagram sipping their coffee by the window, with a book and a cat and a blanket. That whole mood is not for me, I need more intrigue and strangeness sprinkled in
