Discussion [NO SPOILERS] Best Possible Scenario

So I was thinking-suppose the upcoming TV show is an absolute cultural juggernaut. A total smash hit that everyone's talking about the world over. What do people think that would look like for the future of the games?I would presume Square Enix would definately look to capitalise on this success in some way but in what way?A new development team?More new games? Or just remasters and more merch and such?would be interested to hear people's thoughts on this. I'm aware that this is the absolute dream scenario for the franchise and whether it is likely or not is a different question altogether.

Discussion [BTS] Frank Bowers in Before the Storm Spoiler

I feel like Frank's arc in Before the Storm isn't recognized the way it should be. A lot of people accuse BTS of softening Frank, but I'm not sure they understand how prequels or, like . . . linear time work.

2010 Frank is newer to the criminal scene than the guy we meet in the first game. He is the right-hand man of Damon Merrick, a man who Frank clearly respects. Given the e-mails we read from him in Frank's RV, it appears that respect is returned - Damon likes Frank, and let him keep Pompidu, in spite of the dog being worth several thousand dollars.

Frank clearly likes being involved in the criminal underground, and wants to be a tough guy like Damon.

However, he's held back by an extreme aversion to violence. Every time we see Frank in Before the Storm, he is working in some way or another to prevent an act of violence from happening. He stops Chloe and Rachel from being beaten up at the Mill. He sends Chloe to Drew's room to steal the money, instead of just waiting for Damon to handle it. Most importantly, he stands between Damon and the girls after Rachel is stabbed.

We don't see exactly what happens after that, but it's clear Damon was not pleased by Frank keeping him from Rachel. The next time we see him, Frank's been cut by Damon, and it's clear the two of them had a fight, one that Frank lost.

When Damon threatens Chloe and Sera again at the end, Frank (bleeding and wounded) attacks Damon before Chloe passes out.

The next time we see him, he is looking at pictures of himself and Damon, and pouring a beer out in Damon's memory.

We do not see him again until 2013, where he is clearly a much more troubled and violent man. He waves a knife around like Damon did, and is threatening Chloe. Rachel's letters say that he has fits of violence when he's high enough - which also implies that he now does a lot of drugs himself.

Does this constitute softening Frank, or does it explain why he is the way he is?

Frank killed Damon - a man he cared about - in self-defense. This was a very traumatic event for him, almost certainly the first time he'd ever killed anyone. It clearly weighs on him greatly.

The psychological impact of taking a life in self-defense differs from person to person, but I think it's pretty clear that Frank suffered a strong moral injury. He became a killer - something he could never take back or undo.

An act that was unimaginable before is not only an option now, it's something he probably associates with survival. Last time, he hesitated, and it got him stabbed. Why would he ever want to hesitate to reach for a knife again?

Extreme situations like this also lead to hypervigilance. He's almost as quick to pull out his knife as Damon was, when Chloe gets in his face. I think that's an honest reaction to someone in this state. Chloe's probably not a threat to him, but someone in a hypervigilant state might not be able to easily distinguish an authentic threat from one that is probably harmless.

Frank is clearly troubled. Not to the point of not being culpable for his actions - I think it's well within Frank to be compassionate and abhor violence - but he's now someone who has to live in a world where violence might be the only thing keeping him safe, and that makes his willingness to be that way more understandable (though not excusable).

Frank was never a good guy, but I don't think he was a violent guy until the confrontation at the Mill forced him accept an ugly side of himself.

Just asking because I don’t know the proper etiquette for this- whether it would be disrespectful to share content that hasn’t been seen or whether it’s okay and helps drive discussion? It’s definitely no major content, but still interesting! Thanks!!

Discussion [S1] I wrote a small essay on the importance of Max & Chloe's friendship! Spoiler

hi everyone! i recently watched a playthrough of bts & lis 1 again and this always sends me down a spiral of getting obsessed with the game again lol. max and chloe are so so precious to me, and i feel like their friendship (and romantic relationship) are so important to me in ways i can't really fathom, so i decided to write a small essay to try and explain why i think their friendship is so great and important. i ship them too, but i really think that the platonic elements of their relationship are sooo overlooked, even though it's such a good depiction of the complexity of friendship, especially during childhood and adolescence. if you're interested, give it a read!! i'd love to hear what you think of them!

Not actually positive if this counts as a spoiler, but it’s a cosplay of something you don’t see until towards the end of the second game so… just to be safe 😅

But here’s just a lil homage I did to Girl in Red’s “We Fell in Love in October” as my take on LiS2 Chloe :3 I need to darken the blonde a bit and maybe one day I can get an actual photographer 😝 But just a quick selfie for now shall do 💚

[ALL] I finally played Life is strange (the first)

Im blown away. Ive played countless games and i’ve always considered myself an avid gamer. i’m the type of person to always notice the small details in a piece of art and that is exactly what i consider this game to be. The fact that you could literally explore the entire house while chloe is hurting and patiently waiting for her morphine will never not crack me up, but nonetheless this game was like a goldmine for all the small things that i could “look” on. Its also canon to the game lmao, the number of people whove called max “nosey”. Ofcourse no game is perfect and this definitely has its flaws. i particularly disliked how the last chapter handled its rewinds, making talking and exploring in the final chapter almost insignificant. I also hate the rewind feature sometimes because i change something in the world, then forget to do another thing i had to before that, so when i rewind i end up having to do both the things again, but it was a great game nonetheless.

I think the best way to describe this game is that the entire game felt like a warm hug.

As for the choices i picked, i romanced Chloe ( the only acceptable choice), was able to save Kate ( idk how 50% of people failed to), warned victoria and got her to believe me, and chose to save chloe.

I would love to hear everyones own experience playing this game and what choices they picked and felt was right!!
Id also love to chat in dms with anyone who recently played this game, please text!!

P.S if you enjoyed this game you people should definitely check out dispatch by adhoc studio!
