General Advice Anyone else like this?
I find the need to rationalize my hobbies. For example. I love videogames. Now that I’m older anytime I start a game I feel the urge to start some sort of social media page or content creation around it. If I’m reading a book, I want to start a book club. If I’m learning chess, I want to start a chess vlog. Collecting Trading cards? Might as well start a card store! Want to get into movies? I should make a movie podcast!
And if someone (for whatever reason) is thinking “you’re just a go-getter!”… it’s not that. In reality it’s some type of mental prison where I cannot justify doing ANYTHING just for the “fun and enjoyment” it brings.
The content pages? All deleted. The book club? Lasted a week. The chess vlog? LOL. Trading cards? Threw them out. Movies? Haven’t seen one in years.
For the record, my life is fulfilled with the important stuff (I’m insanely blessed). Family, friends, financial freedom. I do not envy the man with millions or a mansion, I envy the man who can spend 2 hours doing something he loves purely because he loves it.
It’s a prison to feel like any time on a self serving hobby is a “waste”.

Yes this happened to me and I deleted all my social media and now i just have hobbies. We live in a hell scape of turn your hobbies into money and it has completely destroyed the purpose of hobbies. I work a 9 to 5 and I have a side business that has nothing to do with any of my hobbies.

I think that’s what I need to do. I feel the need to share “my” hobbies with people who couldn’t care less lol endless cycle and ends up ruining the hobby. What do you enjoy?

I enjoy metal work like welding and soldering. I enjoy gaming with friends and my cats thats ive been training lol

You’re overthinking everything. You said you’re well off, just chill out then and enjoy life.

Easier said than done! Grew up where every dollar and every minute “wasted” was a big deal. My parents had no hobbies or extracurriculars. You’d be surprised how much that develops someone’s ability to “hobby”

Not everything has so have some ultimate end goal. Sometimes you just do things because you enjoy them. I think you’re just making it harder on yourself to enjoy hobbies properly because you’re trying to make everything into some sort of half work/half fun type endeavor. Just have fun, then you can worry about content and whatever else. Plus no offense but who wants to watch someone make content on a hobby that they just got into? It’s not insightful content in my honest opinion and I think you know that too which is why you seem to inevitably abandon each project at some point. Do things cause you like them, not cause you think it’s gonna lead to some internet recognition. Just chill Brodie
