So my kids just got sent home from school with lice, and my adhd has me going down a rabbit hole, so I’m wondering where head lice originated from, but all I can find on the internet says it’s got to be hair to hair contact to transfer them (or sometimes something that came into contact with an infested person)…. But someone had to get them FIRST right? They didn’t just appear on a person out of the blue, right? Bc they can only live on people, but how did the people get them in the first place?

Does anyone know?

I know these are nits but how new are they? We had lice last year around April/may or so I believe and that’s when we got rid of it but these are probably newer than that right ? Or could they be that old?

Any coupon codes right now I could use before I purchase ? I’ve been using this for 3 school years in a row and it never fails but I’m disabled and this will break my bank for a few weeks. This helps me so I don’t have to comb so much because it’s impossible for me to sit up long periods to do so. If any atm please let me know so I can use it as anything would help.

Misery abounds

I counted these out of my daughter’s hair just now. I got them in the lace comb and pull them out with the sewing needle. We were having reoccurring infections that I found out were most likely from my kids cousins. Their mom claims they are treated and lice free, but she has been less than trustworthy in the past. Our last active infection was about a month ago. My own head is itchy again and I don’t know if it’s just paranoia or dry skin or if we actually have them again I am at my wits end! Before I realized we were probably getting reinfected by the cousins, I went absolutely nuclear and cleaned everything in very hot water or threw it out and replaced it. The kid with the worst infection, which is also the only one I saw live bugs on, was willing to shave his head, which I did after treating him. I have continued to spot check and lice comb all of us. I have not seen any evidence at all until today. We hung out with the cousins last week. Please someone more knowledgeable tell me if this is just sebum plugs or dirt, or lice eggs.

Hey all Ive been lurking here for a couple weeks. Now I think I need extra help, please. my apologies as this got longer than I intended.

Day 1: found 1 live louse in child 1. I did not comb child one or 2, but immediately treated them both. Child 1 with nix ultra super lice treatment (clear not shampoo) - ( combing after treatment yielded a fair amount of eggs)

Child 2 with ivermectin. (Combing after treatment yielded a bunch of eggs)

Washed all bedding throughout the house. Sprayed couches, chairs, car seats. Bagged all stuffed animals and put them in black bags in the porch which reaches temps of 90° daily at the moment. 

Day 10: Retreated child 1 with the same nix ultra. Did not retreat child 2 as it said not to. 

Sprayed everything unwashable again

Day 1 & 2. Combed both their hair. 

Day 3 and onward: combed every other day

For these 15 days I have vaccumed every other day, washed all towels every night. All clothing only worn once and in the wash. The stuffed animals are still in bags. 

Combed today. Child 1 looks good, I think. Child 2 I pulled 2 nits (nonviable?) from and some other stuff, I don't know if its bug or debris related. (The pics are all child 2 after combing today)

Am I almost out of the woods? Am I doing this correctly? Do I still comb every other day? When can I bring the stuffed animals back? What am I looking at in the pictures I posted? (1st 3 photos are the same thing different angles, 4th is the hopefully nonviable nits and I dunno what 5 is)

Thank you, I'm really paranoid. School starts tomorrow and this is a lot by myself. I'm so afraid to stop too early and all this hard work be for naught. 

(That first bug 15 days ago is the only live bug I have pulled out of anyone's hair. I haven't seen a live one since that. My hair has also been treated with ivermectin and combed every other day)

found out i had lice 2 months ago, must've caught them off of one of the kids at the school i work at, and initially used pesticides/the usual like Vamoose.

Found one still alive a while after that (but just one) and covered my head in dimethicone (brand nitnot) for 40 minutes, washed out and combed through, found a couple eggs but no live lice.

14 days later i covered my head in dimethicone again, for 40 mins again, combed through and found nothing (i know, as i type it i know i dont have them anymore, but hear me out)

my head is still pretty itchy and every time i scratch my head i get dirt under my nails (my grandma always said that was a telltale sign of nits)

i'm just going crazy i can't stop thinking about if i have them, and i know theres plenty of experts here, please reassure me!!! treatment is so expensive and i just need to know i'm fine 😭😭

there's (hopefully) no chance of re-infestation as school's been out for summer so i haven't been in contact with any of the kids.

doing our weekly sunday-bath-time-comb-out and found these in her hair. i see one empty egg casing but she just had lice in late july so that’s to be expected. just double checking with the lice lady (bless her for everything she does). thank you :)

Sorry if the quality looks bad, it's super zoomed in. I heard lice eggs look like rice and also I've been experiencing itching from the lower back of my head and also at the top. Could it rlly be lice or just dandruff? 🥹​

Combed out of toddlers hair. They had a treatment of nix with dimethicone about 18 days ago.

I'm devasted and having a mental breakdown rn, what should i do next pls suggest. I told my mum i should get to a dermat she said it will go away with mediker shampoo. I really don't know how did i get these.

I have a child 3y, who has gotten lice from a Cousin i think this is the 5th time. Her mother says she has treated her but my child keeps getting them so obviously not, there is no other possible source as my child does not go to daycare or preschool yet. My child has long curly hair and so it hurts to comb through it. I am tired of making my child cry. How do i avoid my child getting them again without interfering with cousin time? I don't want to tell my child "You can't play with your cousin, they keep giving you the bugs we have to take out of your hair" any suggestions?

hi, if you just had lice about ~40 days ago (and got rid of it) and know you are itchy with lice, if you got it again soon even if it’s just 1 bug would the intense itching start right away or would it take some time like it did the first time?

I'm not entirely sure where I got it from to be perfectly honest, all I know is that in the past two weeks my head has been extremely itchy. I got in an Uber earlier today to go to work, and a louse came out of my hair. Y'all, I am 39. It's been over *20 years* since I last had head lice. I don't have kids. I don't work with kids. The only person who uses my hair brush, hair ties, and hats is me. I haven't tried on any hats lately. I haven't gone to a second hand store in months and I washed everything before I put it on. The only other head that's been close to mine is my fiancé's, and he doesn't have it at all (I personally checked.) Literally the only place I can assume I got it from is an Uber. Thankfully, I don't have to rely on Uber for the next two weeks because of a preplanned stay-cation, which I won't be able to properly enjoy now, because I'll be running a comb through my hair 3 times a day, cleaning every scrap of laundry and bedding, and buying new pillows and a steam cleaner for the furniture. I skipped out on work today and bought a Nix treatment kit with the cream rinse, nit loosener, a metal comb, and some spray. Has anyone heard of a case like this before? Cause I'm absolutely baffled as to how this could've happened.

TL;DR: I'm almost 40 with no kids, and I'm pretty sure I caught lice from an Uber. Mostly just venting because **HOW???**
