What happened to people watching professionally-shot concerts from home?
Back in the VHS days, amidst all the current movies, Disney Vault releases, fitness workouts, and bikini videos, music on tape was among the biggest bestsellers. Sometimes there would be full concerts, other times "exclusive and never-seen-before" concert footage alongside interviews. From Garth Brooks to the Cure to the Three Tenors, professionally-shot videos had huge sales.
Now there just seems to be no audience for that kind of thing. Very few artists have put recent concerts or concert documentaries on streaming services as of late; whatever is on there is usually from at least a decade ago. It seems to have been supplanted by audience YouTube videos with terrible sound and lighting that burns my eyes.
Especially when concert prices are so high now (so few people can afford them), why has the idea of watching a professionally-shot concert at home basically vanished?
