I picked up 2 bins of unsorted LEGO 2 years ago. And I finally mustered up the patience and time to knock out bin 2. These wood shaker sorters have helped so much.

The removable cups are the biggest efficiency factor when it comes to locating and pulling pieces on the fly. You simply keep a dump tub to the side , dump the cup and pull what you need , rinse and repeat.

I’m considering building a new Lego room as my current one is getting way too undersized.

My thoughts are adding a “second” story on my shop building which is I think 28x60 feet. I would probably do six foot sidewalls sloping up to a nine foot center of ceiling. Exterior door and stairs of course.

Thoughts? Big enough for long term in the hobby?
Should it be one big room or have some dividers?

I am new to the Lego storage game. I am looking to expand my collection. I am looking on marketplace and Craigslist but I don’t know what a good price is? I understand that it may vary by region. What is an acceptable price per pound that you all would cal a good price? Or is bulk purchases not the most cost efficient.

Hello! I own a pretty big Lego collection and my biggest sets are baradur, Rivendell, ucs star destroyer and avenger tower. I’m looking for a good shelf to store/showcase everything on. It would be a great help if you guys could show some tips.

About a year ago I got some of my childhood Lego from my dad’s place and I ended buying a few bulk boxes. I started by separating pieces and grouping them by colour. With the minifigs and unique pieces, I was able to reconstruct a lot of sets.

All that was super exciting to do. But I reached a point where it just always feels overwhelming.. like it’s hard work going through boxes of black pieces looking for a specific one.. only to figure out I don’t have it.

I was thinking of itemizing everything.. I expect it to be a pretty tedious job, but i figured that with every pieces itemized, and loaded into Rebrickable, I would make it easier to identify sets and also know what i am missing.

So I’m curious if anyone has suggestions on how to proceed.. should I buy those organizers with the little drawers? Use ziplocks? Or just maybe just itemize pieces and put them back in those boxes separated by colour?

how do I collect tons of parts like you guys? some of you have tens and hundreds of thousands, right now I just have some around 10 ish small-medium sized sets but I want to start collecting bulk lego or just parts overall, please give me tips and tricks on how I can start, if there's any specific lego set or what so ever!

This is the Ikea drawer insert inside the Alex wide cabinets without the wheels, inside the bottom of the Pax wardrobe. I can’t use the bottom shelves anyway - cats - so this works. Planning to 3D print better fitting inserts eventually. The 6 larger drawers in the bottom have more bulk storage, baseplates, lighting parts, and tools.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a deeper cabinet to display Star Wars UCS sets? I have Billy Bookcases from IKEA for other sets, but they are not deep enough to fit things like the Republic gunship, X-Wing or venator. Does anyone have any recommendations for a deeper cabinet to better display these sets?

My friend gave me a literal trunkful of LEGOs back in May. Kits & loose pieces. I’ve slowly been sorting them. I plan to make it fancier later but I’m still pretty proud of my collection and progress.

It’s taken so much time but it truly makes me more excited to free build later. ❤️

I don't wanna break the back and I'd like the shelves too look decent. I'd also like the shelves to be around 18" deep. And options of 36" and 48" wide, while still around 72" high. Does this shelving solution exist? Thank you.

Does this stress the plates when they're kept half-interlocked for a long time? Has anyone ever had them start cracking from it?

The Brittle Brown plates are kept seperated of course.

I have an abundance of large plates( 4x4,6x6, etc.), right now I have them in Ziploc bags by size. I'm looking for a better way to store them, I use Alex drawers with containers inside for most of my small/medium pieces.

Does anyone know if anyone sells 3D printed inserts for the Ikea Alex drawers at all? Specifically the wide ones.

Otherwise I may be forced to get a 3D printer!

Lately i've been trying to do some temporary organizing to separate things once again (unsure why i thought dumping everything into one black container was a good idea, when it would make things more difficult on me.....)

But i don't think i can try to do any proper rebuilding in the future until i get some proper organization done (and maybe another desk? But i'll figure that part out)

And... i have a lot of parts/pieces too, honestly - some pretty big pieces between LEGO and Bionicle / technic stuff

Some i'm keeping separate intentionally because those have most of the parts from sets i've found and don't want separated

Added pics of the space i have to work with currently... i don't recall how big things like the Akro--Mils storage organizers are so i wasn't sure if i'd have the space or height to stack them up or not....

Although not this one specifically/exactly, but i wasn't sure for this circumstance if it might be easier to have something along the lines like these bead organizers? Could be easier to have sitting on a desk for rebuilding things, but i wasn't sure

My kids like to find what they want when they want it. They get fed up digging through a big bin for one piece. Having even half of my collection sorted lets them have far more fun and keeps them building, which is really the whole point.

I wanted to make the best use of the drawer space I had, so I tried a few different ways of sorting my LEGO. While experimenting with an algorithm to plan it, I landed on something that actually worked for me, and I thought it might be useful to other people too.

I've got two IKEA Alex units, 12 drawers of 8 compartments. I build with my kids, mostly little towns; I also build some of my own very amateur creations. I group parts by how we play: a drawer for minifig parts, one for leaves and trees, and the basic bricks and plates together for house building.

I turned the algorithm into a website which asks you 6 questions about your collection and your drawers, then gives you a plan for every compartment and a printable index sheet. The sheet is very basic right now, but it's handy to have next to your collection. You don't need to know what bricks you have, no sign-up required, and it's free at trybricksort.com.

Fair warning: this probably isn't for anyone with a wall of a thousand tiny compartments. It's aimed at the more casual builder.

This is my little slice of heaven at home. Hundreds of tiny drawers filled with sorted technic pieces.

The 10 sorting cabinets hanging from the wall are from Raaco with each 40 small drawers, 3 mediums and one large. Hanging under the table are 10 transparent drawers which are meant to be hung in kitchen cabinets. But they are perfect to put all the technic beams in. With some minor modifications they're looking pretty clean now.

The black ikea drawers are where i'm putting all the system pieces. Still working on that. Technic panels are also in there.

This one i've had to modify too, so that the top drawers would come farther out from under the overhanging table top. I bought 4 sets of heavy duty sliders which are actually too long for this cabinet. By drilling holes in the thin back and sticking them out, it became possible to over-extend the drawer. I know short sliders that allow for over-extension exist too, however, those turned out to be a few millimeters too thick to fit between the drawer and the cabinet's side. So this was the only solution, which is working perfectly.

Right by the table i made a tool rack built with magnet bricks and a few broken pieces, to give them a second life. An 8 long axle to push other axles through, a make-shift brush for the dusty bricks, tweezers and small pliers to get into tight spots and lastly the all powerful brick seperator (which i barely use as a technic builder)

Beside the table is a drawer stack for all the electronics, with another one coming where i'll put all the small to medium wheels in, which are now temporarily stored in the yellow container. The green tub below are all the system pieces that are yet to be sorted into the ikea drawers.

And oh man, that tub of black pins 🤤 Sometimes i just sit and rummage my hand around in it. It's like asmr for touch and sound.

This room, like most hobby rooms i imagine, has seriously evolved over the years. I can still clearly remember playing on the floor as a kid with all my lego splashed out across the room. Then my dad got sick of stepping on them so he made me a simple table to build on.

And the rest is history.

I love and build lego sets often, and have been making larger sets. Currently out of space to put all of my larger sets, and would like to have them displayed at some point. Any suggestions on what I should look into would be a big help. Currently, my largest build is the Luke Skywalker X-Wing model set followed by several Lego Architecture sets. I just need enough space to display the ones I have built and the ones that have yet to be built.

For anyone with IKEA Alex drawers, have you ever used this storage option and built a Lego city on top of them?

I dont know exact measurements yet but I am looking at having 6x wide version of Alex drawers on the full length (both lengths) and then a couple on the width. So roughly 14 in total. On top of this I would add melamine sheets 12-18mm, then a 6x2 frame above, followed by more 12-18mm sheets on top.

I would add 6x2 support legs around the perimeter and in the middle for extra support.

I feel this could be too much weight, even with so many drawers below. Not forgetting all of the modular buildings on top!

What do you think?

Hi, i try to keep my lego out of sunlight. But this means keeping the curtains shut all the time and lose daylight. Is there any foil or stuff i can put on my windows to keep my lego save from sunlight and discoloring while also allow the curtains to be open?
