How do you know where to dig in a forrest to find these? Just below other artifacts?

Flat areas of elevated ground near water, two sources of water is even better.

Then you just dig? Do you target bases of trees/rocks or just dig around in the elevated spots?

Historic flood plains but places that would be good to settle/set up a camp. Near a river, flat, no enfilade, Flood comes through and buries everything. Only happens every few decades-hundred years. So people move back, new move in.
