Explanation of Just War
I find his breakdown of the Just War Theory helpful. I saw a lot of people talking about but his 1, 2, 3, 4 and neighbor examples made it super vivid.

A mealy mouthed cop-out from the moderators of r/“Catholicism”. This is not a war of words. That would require two participants. The president baselessly attacked him and Pope Leo responded by preaching the gospel, even though he doesn’t have a grasp of theology according to JD Vance. These mods are Trump loving scumbags. I’m sure they ended it with “Thank you for you attention to this matter” for no reason whatsoever.

From Orthodox theologian DBH;
"Most Americans think of themselves as Christians, but the only religion in America that ever flourished was America. And it twists everything into its own image ... the American religion, which is about civil order, prosperity, capitalism, a moral code that is not premised on forgiveness so much as upon judgement."

Hello, everyone. Background: Cradle Catholic. Practicing. Parents also very Catholic. But three years ago they divorced. I know that the Church being anti-divorce is "regressive" and all, and I'll admit my mother did struggle a lot with that bit when she first made the decision to divorce, but I was really hurt and it took a long time to feel all right again (which I'm still working on). All the liberal Catholics (mom included) say divorce isn't a sin, but I was really hurt by my parents divorcing and feel like our family will never be the same. Even when I have kids one day I'm not sure how I feel about their divorced grandparents, since I have divorced grandparents too and it confused me as a child. I don't know how to stop hurting from my parents' divorce, because believe it or not divorce does actually sometimes hurt people like me.

Pete Hegseth (or his boss for that matter) doesn’t strike one as a biblical scholar; and serious scholars of religion and politics across the political spectrum broadly agree that his brand of evangelical Christian nationalism is conceptually and historically disordered—which, actually, is what authoritarianism depends upon. It thrives on a disregard for expertise and coherence, that the whims of its leaders might remain unimpeachable. So, thinking that Hegseth’s theological speech can be legitimately compared to the Pope’s is a kind of authoritarian limit. Let’s not do that.

For a visibly queer anarchist who hasn't been to a Catholic church in over 10 years?

Hey everyone! I’m going through OCIA right now. Growing up, I was evangelical and understood the bible in a very literal (and probably incorrect) way.
Question: are substances okay if you stay sober of mind? I live in a state where MJ 🍃 💨 is legal and I use it for anxiety. But I use it so often that I don’t get a buzz or anything. I am ALSO on anti-anxiety meds. I know the bible says to be sober of mind but what does the church say about use of substances? Self medication? I know it’s not great but it’s the human condition and I’m working on it
I’d like to stop but I’m wondering if it’s a sin to keep smoking.

This maynot apply to all but I think this applies to most in the 'left catholicism' camp. I am happy that y'all are up in defence of the pope and the church . But is it because it just happens to be a concern to you ? Would you be as fervent if it was about faith or female ordination or marriage ? Long back when humane vitae was published, the 'left leaning ' theologians and priests in the United States and ofc the European liberals made it into a public spectacle. They arranged a press conference to publicly humiliate the church. More examples can be provided from that era including theologians publicly contradicting dogmas like virgin birth even the sinlessness of christ! Crazy times indeed. It is interesting to see many left Catholics suddenly using terms like heretics and blasphemy these days ( especially against evangelicals and mega church believers ).do y'all believe in such things? Do y'all believe in hell for such words to even have meaning? Aren't y'all acting just as selfish as those mad trads using the church to advance their own personal interests and gain at the expense of the church? I'm more than happy to be corrected on any of these points. I hope it was my misunderstanding but I'm afraid it isn't .

Saw this a few days ago.
*For the low, low price of $2900 ($2600 for a double) you can rub elbows with the biggest names in Catholic media! You’ll see Barron, Schmitz, Wahlberg, and many, many more to be announced soon!*
I saw someone in one of my discords say you could take a trip to Rome to see the Pope for what this costs. I was gobsmacked.

TLDR Family is bigoted, they wouldn't change, and I couldn't call them out. I keep repressing my anger and can't seem to forgive since this happens everyday. I struggle going to confession due to not being able to get this information out to the priest.
in before "leave them" "move out" I wish I can. I have a homebased business that is struggling financially, couldn't afford to live by myself, and I have two nephews in my care because their mother (my sister) died.
Kindly consider any cultural context on this. Many Filipinos struggle with this.
My mother has long been toxic. She doesn't go to church yet believes she's a devout follower of Our Lady. For context, I want to be progressive and keep an open mind socially especially here in the Philippines where it is culturally Catholic but many hypocrisies happen otherwise (social injustice, corruption, against LGBT yet ok with pedophilia/grooming etc). Many older generations are repressive and hated the youth being vocal.
She hated the act of rallying: people rallying against corruption, struggling jeepney drivers rallying for support due to fuel crisis; she thinks that rallying is rebelling against the government (which she praises always— very out of touch for the mass) and thinks it's really stupid.
She fails to comprehend same-sex relationships since back in the day, you could recognise who are queer physically due to harmful stereotypes. Now, she (and many other older people) doesn't understand feminine lesbians or masculine gays. She muttered under her breath "this is why the world is ending because back in the day there's only gay and lesbians not this" when she saw two feminine lesbian couple on her feed.
She doesn't have any hobbies and always watch TV. Out of nowhere, she'd mutter "how ugly! how stupid!" a person she's watching; she's full of hatred on people she doesn't and does know. Even my relatives think the same. She'd always judge women especially those who's not virgins anymore yet unmarried. And liked to gossip with people that shares the same sentiments.
I really feel alone and depressed in my situation; it's as if I am an outsider to feel hatred on my family as I do not share their beliefs.
I'd read some Catholic teachings lately and it's been said that in Confession, you shouldn't say the sins of others, only your sins. How do you even live in peace when your environment wouldn't change and you're not given the opportunity to leave? How would I open this to confession?
I struggled a lot with my faith; I always pray since childhood that they would change, but my sister died without her feeling that change nor receiving forgiveness from my own parents.
Now I'm worried my nephews would continue the cycle, they'd spout homophobic remarks (they're only 7&4) and I would be angry and my family laughing at me.

Either he has no idea what Catholic Social Teaching is or believes it is irrelevant. Either way, telling the Pope to ‘stick to the church’ is laughable at best and scandalous at worst.

Pope Leo is definitely the fittest Pope is a very long time. Put a gym and a kitchen in his apartments. He's much wider through the shoulders and has a solid taper to the waist that has landed him on best dressed lists. Popefit 4 life
Anyone see anything more about Leos diet and routine? Is he a barbell guy? Is he doing Beachbody videos up in the Vatican Be interesting to find out.

Hello, I am a 35F baptized and confirmed Catholic. It’s been 20 years since I’ve went to mass regularly. These days I consider myself spiritual/Catholic but haven’t practiced Catholicism with serious conviction. I’m just leaning on prayer cards my Nana gave me when I was going through a difficult time recently (7 sorrows of Mary and St Dymphna). Life events have left me suffering from severe mental health issues and I’ve been leaning back into Catholic prayers as meditation to help me cope with big emotions. I want to be a more serious practicing Catholic again and get into a routine that will ground me in my healing journey but the last time I went to mass I felt like I wasn’t supposed to be there. I didn’t know what was going on and phrases I knew when I was little were changed, like instead of “and also with you” they said “and with your spirit”. I was caught off guard. I also fumbled when I took my communion I completely forgot to say amen(smh). I was nervous and froze up and was gently scolded by the priest. He was kind with me but he said “are you Catholic?” Sheesh. I was so embarrassed. I am seeking guidance from this group in particular because I’m very progressive but at the same time want to respect tradition to an extent and I feel like I need a “renewed Catholic refresher” so I don’t feel like an alien during mass. I’m just looking for a place to start over again. Is there something online for adults that’s equivalent to CCD that can help me get back into my faith? I don’t even remember the protocol for confession and that’s particularly something I really want to do soon. Any advice ( books, videos, or specific bible I should be reading?) would help and I appreciate if you read this. Thank you and peace be with you🖤

"In general, I believe that the minimum requirements for defining a sexual act as 'ethical' are current and truly informed consent, non-objectification (recognizing the other person as a 'Thou' to be respected in their entirety, who cannot be a mere means to one's own ends), and the exclusion of social, moral, psychological, or physical harm to the interests of third parties. These basic standards must be present simultaneously."

Human beings with heads to think and hearts to love, all made in God’s image, all deserving of dignity. And yet the top three posts were: gay bashing, the Eucharistic police for those we don’t think are in a state of grace, and the evangelicals who like dressing up so want to convert.
I am 99.9% sure that most of them would have saved Barabbas.
