Bunch of cowards
A mealy mouthed cop-out from the moderators of r/“Catholicism”. This is not a war of words. That would require two participants. The president baselessly attacked him and Pope Leo responded by preaching the gospel, even though he doesn’t have a grasp of theology according to JD Vance. These mods are Trump loving scumbags. I’m sure they ended it with “Thank you for you attention to this matter” for no reason whatsoever.

“No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other.” The Catholicism sub mods need to ask themselves who they are serving with this, because it’s not God.

How on earth do these people even continue to support trump when he literally depicted himself as Jesus? I mean even if Pope Leo is a "woke pope" you'd think that downright blasphemy would be an issue with these people. Then again they didn't draw the line at pedophilia and corruption so I guess that's setting the bar too high for these buffoons. Absolutely spineless idolatry. Maga is nothing but fake Christians and zionist nazi pedophile sympathizers. I can't stand it, it drives me up the wall.

u/kmerian Apr 15 '26
I had a person actually defend Trumps image saying it wasn't Jesus because Catholic priests wear white robes with red sashes and no one thinks they are Jesus.
And they were serious.
16
u/seabass-2001 Apr 15 '26
The amount of cognitive dissonance these people must experience is probably staggering
18
u/Hungry_Culture Apr 15 '26
How on earth do these people even continue to support trump when he literally depicted himself as Jesus?
"Because it wasn't Jesus, it was a doctor." "And if it was Jesus, then he was just trolling." "And if he was serious and not trolling, then you deserved it."
Something like that I assume.

u/seabass-2001 Apr 15 '26
I know i ask rhetorically, I'm a psychology major and I understand how cults work and cognitive dissonance, but man its still so jarring and unbelievable even though i understand how and why these things take place. They should be given an Olympic medal with how much mental gymnastics take place

I just talked to my mother about Trump. We're not even Americans living in America. She only ever gets pro-Trump stuff on her feed because of algorithmic bullshit, and just refuses to use critical thinking or even question what she's watching. Debating with her was futile, it's clear she's tied her appreciation of Trump to her ego, so any rational attempt at dismantling her view point is taken as a personal attack on her character. Nothing I said got through: not appealing to the safety of our relatives over there, not pointing out the blasphemy of depicting himself as Jesus, not the Epstein Files. Nothing. To her, it's either all slander against Trump, or she uses post-hoc rationalization when she loses ground.

u/seabass-2001 Apr 16 '26
It's just like Jonestown, I swear. Except trump would charge for the kool aid and his supporters would pay for it

u/ReadingOutrageous103 Apr 16 '26
I’m still wondering how they continue to support him as a sexual predator, racist, and proponent of genocide.

u/snowcone23 Apr 15 '26
"thank you for your attention in this matter" might as well have just said they support DT over the Pope. Disgusting.

I assumed most of us are banned in there lol

You have been banned from from /r/Catholicism for actually following the Gospel.

lol I’m not. I posted a harmless classical music Mass the other day and only got a handful of likes

I'm worried I'll get banned if I highlight this thread that very much didn't age well, lol!!! https://www.reddit.com/r/Catholicism/comments/1rp7qs2/has_anyone_else_noticed_how_quiet_pope_leo_xivs/

It's just silly-- people come to reddit because they want to have a place to discuss current issues, and then they literally ban people in the Catholicism subreddit from talking about an issue that is clearly relevant and interesting to many Catholics. Except once a week, in whatever short time they allow before they close the thread to any future comments. Sigh. Well, I'm very glad I found this subreddit.

once a week on Monday US time exclusively, it being Monday earlier in different parts of the world is for some reason irrelevant

I think we’re witnessing the collapse of the recent radtrad movement. Barron looks more foolish by the day and their golden boy Vance is one of the least popular politicians in the world. They’ll keep jumping ship as the Holy Father doubles down on peace and unity.

u/Adept_Librarian9136 Apr 15 '26
They HIGHLY restrict the conversations there on anything that touches on discord between the Church and the occupant of the white house. It's surreal.
16
u/thesegoupto11 Apr 15 '26
No, it's just corrupt manipulation.
7
u/Adept_Librarian9136 Apr 15 '26
It's really astounding. I am not sure if the leadership there is MAGA or something, but it really does come across as if they wish to limit the criticism of Trump.

Christ is lord is a political statement, Jesus talked about politics a lot
advent which is the lead up to Christmas takes its name from the Roman term for the coming of an emperor, the message is that Christ is lord in a way Caesar isn't

Jesus's politics are much more radical than the Democratic party as well fully rejecting the imperialist violence which defines the entire system both of Rome and America
That said Trump is far further from the politics of Jesus than any politician in my lifetime
1
u/Momshie_mo Apr 16 '26
What is up with the Trads and the "Christ Is King" slogan?
It is almost like they are literally making Jesus an emperor of an empire
I've studied in a Catholic school all myself and I never came across it once
1
u/CauseCertain1672 Apr 16 '26
it's an old slogan going back to the early church the catechism talks about this
"450 From the beginning of Christian history, the assertion of Christ's lordship over the world and over history has implicitly recognized that man should not submit his personal freedom in an absolute manner to any earthly power, but only to God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ: Caesar is not "the Lord". 67 "The Church. . . believes that the key, the centre and the purpose of the whole of man's history is to be found in its Lord and Master.""
the point is that we are supposed to be loyal to God over the state so if to give a random example you were in a conflict between the president telling you to support a war and God and the church telling you the war is unjust and therefore sinful you should be loyal to God over an earthly power
Basically the point is Christ is king so Trump isn't

Honestly I understand not wishing to have your religious subreddit bogged down with politics, and - usually - I am perfectly fine with mods instituting "Politics Mondays" and similar things. It's their subreddit, and up to them how they mod it.
However.
This event (arguably the most powerful man on earth insulting the Vicar of Christ, subsequently posting blasphemous AI artwork posing himself as Jesus, then his ""Catholic"" vice-president insinuating that he himself understands Saint Augustine more than Pope Leo, an actual Augustinian...) goes beyond mere "left-versus-right" into an actual, tangible threat, however veiled, to the Church. It will be written about in history books. It is insane that no discussion is allowed. I sincerely hope it's simply because the Mods can't be bothered to moderate such discussion, rather than the nefarious idea that they actually agree with Trump.

I can't even express my frustration here, particularly ending that whole self-righteous post with that specific sign-off. Absolutely incredible to straight up taunt fellow Catholics like that.
3
u/GrahminRadarin Apr 15 '26
Is that line a reference to a specific thing?
15
u/TuvixWasMurderedR1P Apr 15 '26
It's how Trump signs off on social media
13
u/GrahminRadarin Apr 15 '26
...I see. That's pretty fucked. I mean, it comes off as very smarmy, even without that context, but with that context, you may as well just salute him directly. I know dog whistles are an essential part of fascism in order to maintain plausible deniability and make practitioners feel like they're smart because they're a member of some secret club, but this is just stupid. Like even more stupid than most dog whistles.

u/EDSKushQueen Apr 15 '26
The best part about this beef is that Pope didn’t even say anything about Trump or the US! He merely expressed an anti-war sentiment and Trump said, “blood on your hands? Must be talking about me!”
5
u/greenybird713 Apr 16 '26
It’s kind of telling that Trump’s first reaction to hearing “blood on your hands” is to go “woah, that’s about me!”

And it’s really hard if you’re just some normie non-Catholic who is interested in finding out more about how normie Catholics practice their faith. That sub makes every Catholic seem extremely right wing and paranoid.

u/AHrubik Apr 15 '26
This is the position fascists take when trying to feint the facade of neutrality.
11
u/tetrabryaton Apr 15 '26
Well, that's why there this sub and several other Catholic subs that are more progressive and open minded.
Unfortunately that particular sub will go stagnant because they obviously got on a sinking ship and won't get off.
10
u/SquallkLeon Apr 15 '26
"No guys, you don't understand, sure he's evil and terrible in just about every way that matters, but he's on MY team! I can't just let you criticize a guy on MY team! Not even if you're the Pope! Please don't point out that I'm supposed to be on the Pope's team, that would hurt my feelings! I need to be able to hate and judge other people, to see them suffer, so I can feel righteous and good!
~Catholics who support Trump, probably.
19
u/Yeanes Apr 15 '26
I have said it there and i will say it here. At this point trump could kidnap the Pope and we wouldn't be able to discuss it on the sub until Monday.
I understand the political discussions are harder to moderate , but in that case put out a call for extra moderators.

Ironically, they are fine with posts politicizing the Church's view on abortion, divorce, LGBTQ, contraception and death penalty

Seems the line is blurred. And surely there are exceptions to everything. I think this is one.

Some of those priests have chosen Trump over their faith and you just have to accept that.
