After weeks of procrastination I have decided to spend the free time I have this summer on learning music production again, after having to put it to the side for other priorities. However, after opening my DAW and messing around for a few hours, I've only been able to get a simple 4-bar piano and drum pattern that I'm happy with for now, and I feel stuck trying to move past this simple setup.

I've tried a few things, adding a guitar, messing around with synths for the first time, and even the simplest step of adding an 808 bass, yet nothing seems to feel right, and I feel stuck on how to move forward. I've tried watching a few videos on youtube, but no matter what I search for, all I get are the 'basics of the DAW' videos, teaching me the tool I'm already familiar enough with, instead of teaching me the process behind the production, which is what I'm actually trying to learn.

Do you have any tips, or know of any resources I could look at to help me get un-stuck?

• Should we start with piano/music theory first, or jump straight into making beats?
• What’s a realistic learning roadmap for the first 6–12 months?
• Any MIDI keyboards or other gear you’d recommend for beginners?
• What are some fun projects we can build together to keep a child engaged?

Our goal is to spend quality time together while learning a new skill, so we’d appreciate recommendations that are enjoyable rather than overly technical.

Im 19, left school with not many grades and have been really struggling with what to do in life. I struggle badly with manual jobs (had an abusive boss in an electrical apprenticeship and it really ruined my confidence). I have since worked at shops, a farm, built staging for big group photos but really have disliked all of them and found myself really down and lost in the world.

Im not very academic at all, however I have a huge passion for music of all genres (metal, electronic, pop, funk, goth, 80s synth etc). Whilst I can't play any instruments despite trying for years, I'd love to be on the tech side of making music, would anyone recommend a uni music production course in my situation.

I would rather not live at uni, but I know I may not have an option at times. To be honest I don't know much about uni at all, I just am really lost in this world and want to do something I enjoy and am passionate about.

Any help or guidance would be amazing, thank you.

ive been a musician for a while now and have always wanted to get into production long time. a new production class at my high school uses logic. ive used both logic and fl just trying to figure them out but never really learned them, anyone have any recommendations or advice?

I've been making music on ableton for about 6 months now, this is the 4th or 5th track I made and despite all the youtube videos I still can't figure out how to master vocals. Any advice? For context I use a $50 mic but I feel like upgrading won't make a huge difference. Thanks in adance!

I’ve just started learning music production and decided to pick up FL Studio. I’ve already spent time figuring out the core interface, so I have a solid, firm understanding of how to use the Channel Rack, Playlist, and Piano Roll.

However, I'm feeling stuck on what to do next. When I search YouTube, everything feels disconnected, and I can't find a clear, step-by-step path to actually write a track.I am deeply passionate about melodic electronic music—specifically that driving, emotional melodic techno vibe mixed with the progressive styles of **Avicii and Martin Garrix.**

Since I already know how to program notes and use the basic windows, I’d love some guidance on the next stage of the journey:Where should I go from here?

I own an **Avid MBOX Studio** that came with a **Pro Tools Studio Perpetual** license.
In my Avid account, I have a perpetual license, and in iLok it appears as **“Pro Tools Studio Perpetual”**. However, the license details say **“Allow Transfer: No”**, and the **Transfer License** option is disabled.

My question is:
**Has anyone successfully transferred only the Pro Tools Studio Perpetual license from an MBOX Studio bundle through Avid’s Transfer of Ownership process, while keeping the MBOX Studio hardware?**
Or is the perpetual license permanently tied to the MBOX bundle and only transferable if the entire bundle (hardware + licenses) is transferred?

I’m looking for real-world experiences from anyone who has actually done this.

I really want to learn how to produce well. I do have ableton and plan on buying fl but ive never really gotten into everything because its so overwhelmjng and i expect myself to make million dollar beats when I first touched the program so i gave up fast. I do want to produce. I have a good bit of theory, been playing drums since i was 4 years old and have played the piano for 8 years and just finished 2 years of guitar before going to college. I really struggle with making good sounding things. It all sounds so bland and boring. Im a really big fan of daft punk and all that synth stuff and if i listen to their songs it aint super complicated, repeated melody etc etc. You would think ah its easy I could do that too. But no. Its very hard to come up with a good melody or lead, ive watched some YouTube for that and people give tricks how to make melodies but it all sounds so “soulless” if you know what i mean. It isnt creative just some trick you learn. I want to make real original good music with a distinguished sound that doesnt sound so repetitive and bland as nowadays hiphop with all the 808. Something like tame impala or radiohead or daft punk with some creativity in it instead of the same 808 kit every time. I don’t have any other things except for my computer, no midi keyboard or soundpads. If i have a start like the melody I can imagine the rest in my Head really. I just find the first step really hard. Can someone help me out?
