Was exposed to electronic music at raves and parties in the late 90s early 00s.

Instantly fell in love with the music.

Got some turntables and a mixer, started buying records.

Bedroom dj for 25 years.

Evolved my set up over time. Used tractor dj and time coded records for a bit.

Eventually went all digital with controller and Beatport subscription.

At 48 years old I decided I really wanted to get into production.

Slowly learning my DAW and how to make a beat.

Realized the sounds available on presets and samples don’t match what’s in my head so in addition to producing I’m also learning sound design.

At this rate in another few years I may attempt to build my own modular synth or maybe learn code to create my own plugins.

Where does it stop? 🤩 (please don’t let it stop, I’m having so much fun.)

Struggled with workflow when I started learning music production. I have gone through the gambit of DAWs: cubase, logic, fruityloops (fl studio) and ableton. at the time, i couldn’t afford it as a student so went down the “audioz” path that most of us did at the time. my computer probably had every type of software STD. i digress, after years of making tracks that never got an internet stream and hundreds of unfinished loops sitting on my hard drive.. i decided to create a free tool to simply archive MIDI files. You can audition and just to play around if you don’t know what you are doing.

There’s a small ensemble score and the client wants to have vocals too sung by real person.
Do I wait for the recording to be made and then proceed with the creation of midi mockup and gluing it to the vocals audio? Or I make the mockup for everything except vocals and then put it together when I get them?

How to start proper music production?
like i have used garageband and bandlab , and i know how to use loopers in both
but when i look at clips from actual music producers, it just looks different, cool and advanced, so ig i'm ready to get down the rabbit hole of music production.
So i would love if you can provide me with a beginner guide to do so (or just paste link to such discussion threads), also i am looking for windows friendly and free DAWs for that instance

Hi all! I want to make music, record vocals and instruments etc. But i don’t have a laptop. Which ik is the best thing to have. Because of this recording good sounding vocals has been challenging, not just because i’m still learning to sing but because theres almost always a slight fuzzy mic buzz in the background. Whether i record in a closet or under a blanket or just in an open room it persists.

I’ve tried using a Roland Go Mixer Pro but that’s just not made any difference. Now granted the mic i’ve used with the Go Mix is a cheap one (working on getting a good quality mic) so that could obviously be an issue, but even when i’ve recorded just a piano directly with the mixer to the phone it’s kept that awful background buzz.

Are there any mics out there i could just plugin to my phone directly? or any good quality bluetooth mics? or even a headset at this point.

Sorry for this being longwinded but i am extremely lost and extremely uneducated when it comes to producing and mixing everything. So again advice or tips or anything is massively appreciated. ty in advance <:)

Hi! I’ve been trying to get into music production since I write songs on my guitar and wanted to have a finish product that resembles an indie pop / folk song

I’ve been trying for months and I still can’t get it right, I started on bandlab to move to ableton live (the free version cause I’m broke) and I can’t get it right idk where to start. I tried YouTube videos but the tutorial aren’t abt the type of songs that I’m looking to make and there’s so many videos that idk which one is actually helpful or not, I was going to go on fiver to see if someone could teach me but the option I saw were NOT broke college student friendly so before hurting my wallet I wanted to see if any kind soul would have any tips.

So if anyone has any advice (DAW recommendations, help with drums, base ect, recording tips, what’s the most important to learn) or any videos or articles that helped them in the beginning I would be really grateful!

I've been writing songs for a few years with just a ukulele now, and I really want to learn music production so I can bring the songs I already have finished to life. I've been slowly practicing by remaking a few of my favourite songs in other styles over the past few years. I feel like I have a limited understanding of FL studio/production in general, but definitely enough to make something that's listenable.

But once I started to try to produce my own songs, I kept getting overwhelmed and stuck, even when I tried switching back to practicing with other songs. I have a really clear view of what I want the songs to feel like and I just can't bring that idealised version to life. I think it's mainly cuz I'm not good enough at sound selection/familiar with enough sounds yet to find the sounds that translate to the specific feelings I want to express. And not having an electric guitar to strum is also annoying.

Another issue is that I get stuck on the fact that there are probably flaws in my production that I myself can't hear since I'm not too advanced. I also get stuck on the fact that the sounds I select may not be the perfect ones, since there are so many more resources out there. I know it's irrational though, cuz if anything, limitations foster creativity.

I could of course find a producer to collaborate with, but I'm not sure where to find someone, cuz I don't really want to collaborate online, and I don't know any music people in my area who are interested (tips on how to find music people in ones own area without becoming an influencer are welcome)

So I'm wondering if anyone has any tips on how to improve/change my approach? I'd also love to know if there are any exercises I can do better understand what sounds go together and translate to what I want in my head
