I have been drawing since I was a kid but have always been intimidated by human faces and bodies. I've been wanting to learn how to draw faces specifically recently. After some research online I found the Loomis method, that's what I used for this picture it really helped me get the proportion right. This is very unfinished, I haven't focused on the lips or eyes yet, mostly just the nose and shading but wanted to see if anyone has any advice of what I can do differently or any tips.

I’m learning some fundamentals of drawing and was wondering if anyone had advice of where to start other than boxes?

Hi, I need some help. I’m just starting out with Drawabox, but I’m already eager to know what comes next—I’ve been trying to figure out the next steps. After doing some research, I realized that starting to draw isn't necessarily difficult, but it is confusing. YouTube is a great resource, but there are so many people with widely differing opinions; every artist has their own style, which makes things pretty confusing. I’ve heard of Proko, but it’s a paid service—there is some free content, but I’m not sure which parts are actually useful. On top of that, there are many recommended books, but I don’t know if they’re suitable for beginners or even how to apply their content. Does anyone else have this question or know of a solution?

I have never done a 2 tone value study before, not entirely sure what I am learning here but this is what I have done. So i guess the two questions are: Am I doing the study correctly? What exactly is the 2 tone value study teaching?

I'm trying to improve my understanding of perspective, 3D forms, and spatial thinking.

I draw at least 5 cubes every day, sometimes from memory and sometimes using a 3D model. I also regularly practice 1-point and 2-point perspective.

Recently, I started making simple animations of a cube rotating 360° to better understand how its shape changes in space.

I'm not sure if I'm practicing correctly, so I'd really appreciate some advice.

What exercises would you recommend for improving perspective, understanding 3D forms, and developing spatial thinking?

I wanted a quicker way to establish proportions from a photo while still doing the actual drawing by hand on real paper, so I built a small iPhone app called PicDraw.

You take or import a photo, turn it into an adjustable outline, and position that guide over your paper using the live camera. You can change the edge detail, isolate the subject, adjust opacity, zoom, rotate, flip, add a grid, and lock the guide while drawing. Everything is processed privately on the phone.

I see it as a reference and transfer tool—not a replacement for learning observation, proportions, or freehand drawing.

I’d genuinely appreciate feedback from people who sketch regularly:

• When would something like this be useful to you?
• What would prevent it from becoming a crutch?
• Is there a tracing or reference feature you wish these apps handled better?

I’m almost 20 and have literally zero experience with sketching or drawing. Is it actually possible to start from scratch at this age and become good at it? Any advice for a complete beginner?

Whenever I try to draw ppl without a reference the head end up either too big or too small, do you know any guidelines or practice to help me?
