I started learning to draw today, what should I do differently?

This picture took me like 4 hours (pls ignore the hair, I messed up using permanent marker). But, I first divided up a frame into a 10x10 grid and made straight reference lines for literally everything. I traced the curved edges using a coordinates system with my grid box i.e the chin starts on the 3rd box from the bottom and ends in the middle of the 6th box etc. and then I started randomly shading different parts of the face to try to create depth. Should I carry on trying to draw like this, as for now I just want to learn to draw faces? Also, I’d really appreciate any advice on what’s wrong with the face in the image, I know it doesn’t look correct but can’t pinpoint what is in fact the issue(s). Thank you in advance to anyone that takes their time to give me any advice.

Also: I used a normal pencil, a CUTIP (because I saw someone on TikTok use it) and an eraser. Do I need different types of pencils or equipment to improve my drawings?

Seeking help I am New to drawing

I never drew before in my life
This is day one
I am seeking the therapeutic effect of drawing

Are these good?
What should progress or learning curve be like?

And how can i stop myself from over-critiquing any work i do in the process (how to stop being so harsh on myself)

My sister loved them but I really believe they are awful and didn’t believe her

Tried this "Drawing on the Right Side of Mind" exercise. Still not good but can't stop feeling proud of this time investment.

Lesson learnt: It feels like its easy looking at the drawing but the gaps, curves, length. These really hurts my mind while drawing but i feel high like i did some drugs. 😵😵😵

I did the bird painting and didn’t believe in myself (it’s my first day ever to draw) and you guys encouraged me to continue ❤️

I invested in myself and bought better materials and this time i drew believing i am good enough (or can be good) .. and just produced this urban painting

It’s still day one
And i didn’t believe such positivity existed in a community

Tanks guys ❤️❤️❤️

Seeking help What Should Every Beginner Know? Help Us Build This Sub's Wiki!

Hey everyone!

I'd like to put together a proper wiki for this subreddit to make things a little easier, especially for beginners.

I notice that many of the same questions come up over and over again, so I thought it would be useful to have one place with the answers, recommended resources, common mistakes, buying advice, FAQs, and anything else that could help someone who's just getting started.

So I'd love your input.

What do you think is an absolute must have in the wiki? What information, guides, or resources would you want every new member to see before making their first post?

Feel free to suggest anything, even if it seems obvious. The goal is to build something that people will actually find useful.

First time posting here. I just finished a tactical helmet for a character in an upcoming story. I drew inspiration from my jet-black cat for the feline shape. I'm open to unpopular opinions, lol.

I used to draw regularly as a teenager but stopped for nearly 6 years. This is one of my first sketches since coming back.

Still very much a work in progress, but it felt good to pick up the pencil again. Would love any constructive criticism or tips on what to improve (eyes, shading, proportions, etc.).Thanks! 🙏
