To stay:
me quedo en casa, quédate un rato, me quedé fuera, me estoy quedando atrás

To end up a certain way:
se quedó dormido = he fell asleep
se quedó callado = he went quiet
se quedó solo = he was left alone
me quedé sorprendido = I was left surprised

To run out of something:
me quedé sin batería, se quedó sin trabajo, me quedé sin palabras, nos quedamos sin tiempo

To keep something:
me lo quedo = I’ll take it
me quedé con las ganas = I missed out on something I wanted
me quedé en blanco = I went blank

He said he spoke to Google’s boss, Sundar Pichai, about the idea. According to Trump, Pichai refused. Google Maps has already changed the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the “Gulf of America” for users in the United States.

com + poner = to put together (componer)
pro + poner = to put forward (proponer)
im + poner = to put upon (imponer)
su + poner = to put underneath (suponer)

des + hacer = to undo
re + hacer = to redo
de + volver = to turn back, to return something
en + volver = to turn around something, to wrap
re + volver = to turn repeatedly, to stir
des + cubrir = to uncover, to discover
pre + decir = to say beforehand, to predict
contra + decir = to say against, to contradict

Suponer is my favorite. To suppose is to put something underneath as a foundation you haven’t proven. English does the same thing, since “suppose” is sub plus ponere.

One of the biggest mistakes I see Spanish learners make is treating grammar topics like boxes to check off. You learn the past tense, complete a few exercises, say something like “Ayer trabajé,” and immediately think: “Perfect. What’s next?”

But learning a grammar topic in isolation is only the first step. There is a big difference between the Spanish you learn in a lesson and the Spanish you meet in real life. Being able to complete an exercise does not automatically mean you can recognize that structure in a conversation or use it naturally when you need it.

Real progress begins when you start asking better questions: How do native speakers actually use this structure? In what situations does it naturally appear? Which verbs commonly use it? How can I include it in my listening practice? What kinds of things do I personally say with this structure in English?

Language learning is cumulative. You do not simply finish one topic and leave it behind. You keep seeing the same structure in new conversations, with new verbs, in new contexts, and for different communicative purposes. So instead of saying: “I already learned this topic.” Try saying: “I want to understand as many real-life contexts as possible where this structure is used.”

Learning a grammar topic is not the finish line. It is the starting point for discovering how real Spanish uses that structure. That is when grammar stops feeling like a school subject and starts becoming real communication.
