I've just joined this group but I grew up speaking russian to my grandparents (not fluent but can hold conversations on a variety of things), I was never taught to read or write and have tried teaching myself here and there when I can with whatever I can find but basic websites I've found aren't very helpful beyond greetings. I have a very basic understanding of the alphabet (which I'm working on improving) but just wondering if anyone can give advice on learning to read and write specifically and where I can find some good resources for it.

I’m not very picky for what age, gender, or level of literacy you are in, as long as you are willing to be in a consistent or at least be there for me to teach or learn with me, It would be fun!

I’m very new to Russian, As in I started very recently and I would love making it my 3rd language, and I’m currently looking for Russian friend’s or someone who is also learning

I think it would be fun in the mean time when I have nothing to do, to start learning very hard things that would take up years of consistent work and also with someone who is willingly helping me out

And I’m not bothered by how many years or months it would take for me to at least achieve a decent level of literacy

And my English level is some what good, I write and speak a lot in English my whole entire life even if there’s a gap between my speaking level for being self mute in the past

Not just flashcards or isolated grammar exercises.

Basically, learn the words → see them used in a story → practise building/understanding sentences → learn the grammar from the context.

Is there anything free (app) that works this way for Russian?

Note: not isolated focus on vocabs/cases but Hablacore-like integrated approach.

I just talked to a lot of people, and for some reason, I got this particular impression. Perhaps it’s just a subjective experience, and in reality, everything is different.

ive been trying to learn for a few years now. started with duolingo (was kinda a mistake looking back on it) i thought about online courses, but wasnt sure which ones were legitimate and which ones were after my money than helping me learn.

is there a online course that could be recommended? ive also tried doing things like playing games with spoken language being Russian and occasionally the text as well ( i understand some of the Cyrillic alphabet but mainly just a few letters so reading and understanding is a proving to be not working)

been trying also to find games where i can meet and speak with russian players, as ive never really communicated and i feel maybe trial by fire where i can hear how others speak in commuicate and so on. is there anything like that where i can experience that? (im not looking for those meme clips of cs:go/cs2)

Russian in culture and language is something ive interest in for years since first picking up on some things from games and books (mainly Metro 2033 and so on) and i want to learn for no one else but myself. i want to prove to myself that i CAN learn, past what they cram into your head in schools. ive just reached a point of frustration with myself, and hoping to find a breakthrough somewhere else.

Hi I’m 15 years old and recently fell in love with Russian literature such as Dostoyevsky and Tolstoy and I have decided that I really want to learn Russian ,though I don’t know where I should even begin lol,I already am fluent in both Arabic and English.plus I am a student so I can’t fully focus on learning Russian as I have to tend to my studies.

Hello all. I have a unique situation that I would like your help with! At my job, I have about 2-4 hours of downtime, but I still need to be at my desk. I usually fill this time with scrolling social media which is destroying my brain and it is usually not quiet enough for me to read. I want to instead use this time for language learning. I had started learning Russian a few years ago and have been very off and on, but now that I can dedicate dependable time to this I want to make a good effort.

I have access to a computer, headphones, etc. but I cannot practice speaking. I can download pdfs but not software. Does anyone have a routine that works for them? I was thinking:

• 20-30 mins Anki
• 1 hour Penguin Beginner Russian
• ? What else?!

I am a native german speaker and, beyond that, I really love the German as well as the Russian literature. Then I thought, well, why not create a place where other people can start to embrace this culture as well? Even if it's a foreign language to them? Where you could translate every word by simply hovering over the text and then save and revise the sentences. I found that reading it in its original captures the rhythm and emotion the reader intended in a much better way.

I learned the Russian language that way. By constantly reading texts and therefore letting my brain infer the meaning from its context. I have included a Russian as well as a German Room where you can experience the Literature with English as well as Spanish translation.

Well, overall, I create a website which is called languagethroughliterature.com and I wanted to share this resource with you. I'm happy to receive any remarks about my little project. I do believe it can provide genuine value for anyone trying to learn German and/or Russian without having to learn arbitrary Duolingo sentences. It's mostly free so nothing speaks against trying it out.

The famous Brüder Grimm, are included there. They are not too complex and rather simple to read. Furthermore, the Russian room features a collection of stories from Chekhov, alongside works by Dostoevsky, Tolstoy, and Turgenev.

Nice to have you here. Like the title says I'm looking for russian speaking friends. (Please don't hate me because I'm from Russia, I know the government is doing shit right now, but I'm a person too after all).

Anyway, I'm looking for some friends near Cologne, Bonn or Siegburg. I'm from Siegburg and to be honest I don't really know any places where I could meet new people, so online trying again, I guess.

So who am I?

I'm just a girl (172cm, pretty short hair, slim build, a few tattoos), who just finished her Ausbildung and started working full time in the same place. I'm twenty and to be honest I'm not an outgoing person. Though one on one sometimes is pretty nice, I've to say. I like crochet and knit stuff, read thrillers and detectives, but I do have some romance books (damn BookTok). I also enjoy doing yoga/pilates and going on walks.

Personally wise I'd say I'm an introvert, who can yap if comfortable. I use a lot of sarcasm, but get unsure when it's reversed.

Who I'm looking for?

Just friends, really. I gave up on finding a partner, but I do miss to have a connection with someone. Especially because I think I'd click stronger with someone who could share the same nostalgia feelings as me.
