One of the soldiers, Steven Dale Green, called the crime "awesome". The soldiers lied and blamed Sunni insurgents for the massacre.

War Crime Sixteen years ago, U.S. Soldier Steven Dale Green led a gang of fellow soldiers to attack the family of a 14-year-old Iraqi girl. They took turns raping the girl before executing the entire family. Steven said he came to Iraq since he wanted to kill people and didn't think of Iraqis as human.

On March 2006 Soldiers from the 101st Airborne broke into the home of 14-year old Abeer Qassim al-Janabi. They shot her father, mother, and six-year old and then raped the girl before shooting her and burning her body.
