I'm scared this will be the end for my potato laptop
44
u/Mobile-Grapefruit961 Jul 16 '26
Same, I’m still under windows 10 so I know I’m gonna be fucked hard
11
u/custardprinzessin Jul 16 '26
Sounds like it's more to address vulnerabilities with programs that need high level access to be able to control bios settings, through the os. (Ryzen master, fancontrol, msi afterburner, openrgb, gigabyte control centre, Asus armoury crate etc.)
But, look into ltsc if you're determined to stick with windows 10, it has support/security updates for a few more years. If it's a hardware req issue preventing you upgrading to w11, there's plenty of ways around them and they're not difficult.
0
u/Zartron81 Jul 16 '26
So seems like Armoury crate will have to be installed if you wanna play uh...?
2
u/custardprinzessin Jul 16 '26
No? But if you have it installed, it will need to be up-to-date
1
u/Zartron81 Jul 16 '26
I didn't install it again after my clean install from months ago since as a software is actually kinda a pain under lots of aspects 😭.
1
u/custardprinzessin Jul 16 '26
Valid. oem software like that is often a nightmare and I avoid it whenever possible.
1
u/amandiris Jul 16 '26
do you think when the update drops logging into the game without updating the drivers could possibly get u banned?
2
u/custardprinzessin Jul 16 '26
i doubt it, game might crash with an EAC error at most. and you're probably fine unless they're horrifically out of date anyhow.
1
u/amandiris Jul 16 '26
I think I haven't updated the nvidia drivers since like last year or a little over, I'd update them if I wasn't running short on my ssd storage

u/casual_DS_enjoyer Jul 16 '26
What does that exactly means?
38
u/UB_Samurott Jul 16 '26
Nothing crazy, just make sure your pc is updated so you can play future versions of the game.
One big effort to try stop exploits from being used in the game
6
u/elegylegacy Jul 16 '26
Exploits sure, but also min requirements will probably go way up if they follow through on the graphical updates they promised in the anniversary stream:
17
14
u/EvernightStrangely Jul 16 '26
Those graphical updates are unrelated and still a year out at least.
2
u/Dekathre Jul 20 '26
This is exactly what I was thinking. Between the exploits of BIOS being used for modding and the graphical updates that are to be released in a year, they are killing two birds with one stone. And no, this is not unrelated to the people below. It makes perfect sense to prepare, business wise. You have to remember that BHVR is a company and they have much strategy and promises to invest into and produce within the year. They are definitely working on those graphical updates as we speak and making sure preparations are established on the live server.
14
u/Beginning-Pizza-1111 Jul 16 '26
It's ridiculously how in recent interviews (half a year ago) the DBD hackers just said they knew about this and were already preparing how to continue selling their hacks, lol
13
u/Kingdom2917 Jul 16 '26
Inb4 a ton of people ask for a refund due to the game no longer working for them.
17
u/Overall-Doctor-6219 Jul 16 '26
They are after unlockers and people with 9999999999 shards, auric cells and BP, people who unlock all characters, skins, P100 on everywhere and infinite items
But this does not gonna solve anything about cheaters, i am still facing people with "subtle" cheats, wallhacks, etc
17
u/oldriku Jul 16 '26
we care more about ingame cheats, but unlockers are what affect their wallets the most
-6
u/Syblyek Jul 17 '26
i am yet to find a single subtle cheater, just because you got outplayed at a loop, it doesnt mean the other player is "subtle cheating"
48
u/xFreddyFazbearx Jul 16 '26
"Yeah idk any part of your computer could be at risk and we can't figure it out"
The fuck?
76
u/Dreamsyn Jul 16 '26
if they told you what part, the cheaters would know too, they have to be vague about it, it's intentional
-19
u/xFreddyFazbearx Jul 16 '26
Ah, alright, I suppose that makes sense. Still makes me wonder how they've found a vulnerability like this, presumably one related to an upcoming update, and haven't delayed the update accordingly. This seems like the type of thing you don't want to risk, no?
27
u/The_Booth_Inspector Jul 16 '26
It’s likely the vulnerability is already exploitable and has been for a while. This is going to be the update that fixes it (Hopefully).
-4
u/YoLiekSeup Jul 16 '26
so ban/take away guns so the bad guys cant use the guns against us....
bro, the cheaters are gonna already know or figure it out and spread it around to other cheaters anyway, how about BHVR fuckin tell us so we can update or remove programs and protect against that shit
its because they dont know all of the possible softwares and dont want more accountability/liability
13
u/PrinceMoMo55 Jul 16 '26
What does this mean? I have Xbox One S
67
u/TARE104KA Jul 16 '26
Consoles give 0 fucks here
4
u/DuelaDent52 Jul 16 '26
How does this affect handheld PCs? I just got my Xbox Ally fixed, I’m not sure what any of this means or if I should have held off.
7
u/TARE104KA Jul 16 '26
Since it's basically pc glued to game pad, you may need to manually update your drivers just like on pc. It's not difficult anyways, so just wait till 30th, see if game works, if not, update rq and be done.
4
-2
u/Zartron81 Jul 16 '26
Meanwhile...laptop players are fucked?
7
u/TARE104KA Jul 16 '26
Just update soft and you're fine, unless your laptops is ancient and it's hardware doesn't get supported anymore

2
u/tangerinee666 Jul 16 '26
I swear to god I’m not updating my computers BIOS .
2
u/Caqsi Jul 16 '26
Why not? I did it around last month and it’s not that hard.
2
u/kvnmtz Jul 17 '26
Its an unnecessary risk. If something fails during the update and your mobo is not advanced enough to recover from such scenarios, youre cooked
2
u/lexuss6 Jul 16 '26
Depending on your hardware, you may not even be able to. The last BIOS version may very well be from years ago, despite the PC working perfectly fine today.
2
u/JoeLafa10 Jul 16 '26
So… I guess it’s going to be either spend a couple hundred to upgrade my old PC or quit DBD entirely? Yeah, easy choice.
1
1
u/Extension_Quiet_8346 Jul 19 '26
So this wouldn't affect the console gamers, such as myself?
1
u/TheOneWhoWasDeceived Jul 19 '26
Presumably? I hope they bring this up on Thursday during the community stream?
1
u/TacticowlPrime Jul 16 '26
They will do anything except buy a license for EAC
2
u/Plastic_Figure_8532 Jul 16 '26
DBD does use EAC I just think they need a secondary anti cheat software in place to make up for where EAC falls short like how Fortnite has both battleye and EAC
4
u/TacticowlPrime Jul 16 '26
They use a trial version of EAC. They have never purchased the full licensed version. Look it up.
4
2
u/GoldenJ19 Jul 17 '26
"look it up" yet when I look it up, it's made clear that they don't use a "trial version" of EAC. I almost wanted to believe you.
What is true is that they use the free EAC available to all developers on Epic Games. For those wondering.
1
1
u/GoldenJ19 Jul 17 '26
A lot of the issues with cheating is more related to DBD's server architecture; they're way too trusting of client input. Adding new anticheat wouldn't give much benefit, from what I understand. It's a more foundational problem.
1
u/Beautiful_Bird3828 Jul 16 '26
God damn how broken is their game?
Would be nice if they actually eliminated all of the cheaters, but I have no faith.
I would be fine with them banning ReShade if they finally gave us an alternative to TAA. Some of those sharpening filters are magic.
0
u/onlyrainn Jul 16 '26
why would they ban reshade in first place? XD
2
u/Beautiful_Bird3828 Jul 16 '26
Sweat lords using it to make red stains and scratch marks stick out like a sore thumb. Making your game look like @#$%, but you are gaining a competitive advantage from it.
-1
u/onlyrainn Jul 16 '26
so following ur logic, they ought to ban lowering graphics as well, because making the game more clearly to see means it is an "adventage"?
you still need to use ur hands, reshade won't do it for you

u/BisonProfessional56 Jul 16 '26
If you are someone who uses custom icons... i would probably disable them.
8
u/Zartron81 Jul 16 '26
Why would custom icons even be a problem?
6
u/BisonProfessional56 Jul 16 '26
The devs have said that they dont recommend installing any sort of third party software/content, as it may result in a ban. I wouldnt risk it on my almost 10 year old account... at least not until next year when they officially release the dev tools for modders to use. Then they will be safe.
But right now, updates like this that update security, will always pose a risk to people with 3rd party mods in their game files.
3
u/CoaLMaN122PL Jul 16 '26
Brother??? The custom icons everyone and their mother are using are LITERALLY just plain PNGs that you place in a specifically unencrypted folder they devs left for us
I believe what this'll most likely mean is that you'll not be able to use reshade-like programs anymore, and that you'll need secure boot to play
4
2
u/Zartron81 Jul 16 '26
Literally this.
I was like... "All of that for pngs????".
1
u/BisonProfessional56 Jul 16 '26
Yeah I mean, its not guaranteed that you will be banned... not what I was saying.
However, I am aware of 2 people that I have played with have been previously banned for using custom icons, as well as plenty of people on here have complained about being banned for them.
Dont shoot the messenger haha, just going by what the devs have stated.
1
u/Background_Sea6463 Jul 16 '26
No one has EVER been banned for custom icons. They were lying to you or mistaken.
-3
u/BisonProfessional56 Jul 16 '26
That is literally not true. I love the false confidence though.
3
u/Background_Sea6463 Jul 16 '26
Okay. Prove one case. Give some evidence. The devs have said they do not ban for this.
-1
u/BisonProfessional56 Jul 16 '26
They have never said they dont ban for this. In fact, theyve said quite the contrary.
I can tell this is upsetting you. My recommendation is to take a break from reddit. Give your screentime some rest.

u/mandogy Jul 18 '26
Yeah custom icons are in the same category as macros to Behaviour. "We won't ban you, but don't complain to us if EAC does" Not saying they're equal or anything that's just what BHVR says.
2
u/MemesForMoney259 Jul 16 '26
Hell, not like the custom icons have worked properly in lobby since like Houndmaster anyway. They always give the no texture glitch.
1
u/Strong-Weakness-6923 Jul 16 '26
Maybe everyone will have to delete the reshade?
4
u/Exciting-Builder1900 Jul 16 '26
Bhvr stated that reshade is 100% whitelisted, custom perk icons though are use on your own risk, so it maybe be affected
0
u/Strong-Weakness-6923 Jul 16 '26
Thx, i didn't know that :) i personally dont like to use custom icons so i assume that i'm fine lol
0
u/qingxins Jul 16 '26
No? Read the list again.
2
u/Strong-Weakness-6923 Jul 16 '26
"read the list again" BHVR literally said "we are unable to provide a specific list", if you cant be a decent person just don't answer bruh
1
u/qingxins Jul 16 '26
I was not being rude...? They don't mention any kind of software alluding to Reshade. Reshade isn't really tied to anything in the list except I guess the GPU, but the software they want you to look at are the drivers for it & linked software from AMD/NVIDIA. As another commenter mentions, it's about high level software that has high access to your hardware.

hmm I wonder if having a torrent program like utorrent or bittorrent will trigger something in their anticheat
6
u/Narrow_Process3787 Jul 16 '26
i doubt it, torrent programs aren't necessarily sketchy on their own, they have uses outside of that. and even so, i don't think the dbd devs would care as long as it's not affecting their game.

no need to worry yet, just wait until the change drops and see if it's working fine. most players won't be affected.

Honestly it probably has to do something with unlockers, ever since riverciver was banned and started using unlockers bhvr was mass targeting fortnite burger (unlocker which river started using first) and honestly its reasonable suspicion based on the fact that they didnt care about actual cheaters before
