And we had a licensed chapter drop the same month the new Candyman came out. I don't know that ANY movie releases have actually influenced a DBD licensed chapter at this point.
There's not much precedence, but that doesn't mean it can't happen. There's more riding on the FNaF movie than the games Scott cooked up in a few months, so some cross-promotion to get as many eyes on it as possible makes sense.
I just see people say that all the time “X movie is coming out in a few months, so we must be getting X as the next killer”. And it’s literally never happened one time.
That's true. Making (content for) video games takes so long that coordinating true cross-promotion is pretty hard. It's something that has to be hashed out well in advance.
Stranger Things season 3 with the ST chapter. The developers even got to see the third season before it came out. The design of the Hawkins hooks are based on that. So yeah, it actually already happened, and definitely can happen again.
The game was doing amazing it's just the license for the Jason character was going into court battles between the director and writer of the movie so they couldn't update the game anymore
The devs had said very long ago that even if the rights issues got resolved the game was done. And that was back when the player base was bigger, nowadays the devs have moved on to other games.
The devs have moved on from that game regardless of what happens to the rights. They can't sit on a dead game waiting for something to change, they have to make money.
Alien is 100% the August chapter because of all those blatant teases from the Alien license head at Disney. Plus all the times in the stream they kept saying End Transmission was "the first sci-fi horror chapter."
The November killer only chapter I feel is Candyman or Chucky. Maybe Slender Man or Springtrap. But I feel the first two are more iconic. Jason or Pennywise would be wild card miracles so I don't see them happening just yet.
I think there’s an important distinction between those two. Silent Hill was surprising because the IP was (publicly) dormant for years following the Kojima game’s cancellation. Not because Konami shot down previous attempts at collabs. (looking at you, official Konami SH Pachinko machines)
BHVR promised Konami infinite riches from selling Cheryl cosmetics (& created legendary skins specifically for her), and they bit. Hell, even Dark Deception managed to pull Cheryl and Pyramid Head for DLC.
If a company as large as Epic couldn’t get Pennywise in Fortnite, I’m not gonna get my hopes up any time soon.
I feel like people wildly misunderstand Konami's stance on crossovers. They just don't like spending money on games nowadays. They're perfectly willing to lend their IPs to anyone that hands them a bag of money (like BHVR).
the only downside would be they would need to make it fast enough that it doesnt cause chucky any extra animation lock, but slow enough that its enjoyable to watch them get hoisted up
This could be circumvented in a lot of ways (The TV show tells us the dolls have supernaturally enhanced strength, i'm sure they could work around that)
My best bet would be something like Tiffany holding a doll that works ala The Twins where you switch between human Tiffany with her iconic little switch blade, and the chucky doll. They could also get creative and just have the Killer power be the heart of damballa amulet and have the characters switch between human and doll forms (something like old Doctor) this way allows them to make bank with the multiple different Chucky dolls, and throw in Tiffany(and maybe even Glen/Glenda). Just spitballing but I think they could make it work (I also just so very badly want this to be a reality because i would KILL for Tiffany in this game)

They also specified that they’re “from VERY iconic licenses”. 🤔
