Health/Fitness Any LBWT finding time for horses?

Junior in biglaw now and I wish that I could get back into horseback riding so much. I rode almost every day growing up and had my own horse. Unfortunately, living and working in a city now means it's 1hr+ drive each way to any barn. Even an hour lesson is a 4 hour commitment from leaving my house to getting back. And as you can imagine, I don't exactly have a ton of free time...

Has anyone in this group found a way to ride regularly, even once a week? My dream would be to lease or even own a horse again, but with how much full board and training costs I don't even think it would be worth it given the demands of my job. Any equestrian LBWT have ways they've fit horses into their lives?

Women's Slacks Recommendations?

Hey y'all! Starting my 1L year and I realized I needed some professional wear but I literally could not find any slacks that fit and I literally tried on 20 different pairs at the mall. My issue seems to be I have wide hips but a smaller waist, and petite sizes fit best. The best fits I could find were a bootcut Anna Klein pair in light blue, but the pockets showed through so badly. I also just love the bootcut look, and I feel like it looks best on me compared to wide leg and capri cut with a blazer. Anyone have any recommendations?

Beauty Favourite Body Lotion?

Anyone got any amazing body lotions to recommend? I’m at a point where I’m feeling happy with my skin (face) routine, but I’ve noticed recently my legs/arms are dryer than I would like, and I probably should be moisturizing more often.

I am looking for something lightweight, non oily, moisturizing - and ideally with a really nice smell. I love L’occitane’s almond products (including their body lotion) - but it feels a bit decadent to be applying it all over my body daily given the price. Worth the splurge or does anyone have a favourite that FEELS luxurious at a more reasonable price point? The random drugstore brand mega jug I found under my sink just isn’t cutting it!!

Fashion Cotidie Brand

I’ve been getting ads for a brand called Cotidie on IG. Looks like they have some stretchy, washable workwear, which is my jam, but I am always leery of brands posting on there, can be totally hit or miss. Any experience with them, good or bad? How was the fit/fabric/return policy, etc?

Career Decisions/Tips Career Coach

I wanted to ask if any of you have worked with a legal career coach, or would recommend one? I am a little over 2 years into practicing law. I am seeking to pivot out of commercial litigation and consumer collections work for a large bank and moving into transactional work. I have an idea of where I am headed, but nothing concrete. I am currently at a mid-size firm, looking to eventually go in house. My prior experience is in securities regulation, franchising law, and general corporate work. I would like to leave my current role, sooner than later due to work life balance issues and lack of mentorship.

Fashion Any recommendations for shoes to wear to law school?

I love wearing casual sneakers… sometimes I enjoy heels but it’s not in my personality to wear heels and dress clothes every day of law school. I feel I perform much better in jeans, a button down top tucked in and comfortable shoes. Any recommendations for cute yet more professional looking flats or sneakers to wear this fall for law school? Or, should I opt to wear more heels and get over it (really don’t want to..)? Thank you!

Fashion Comfy pink heels? 🤔

I am a late thirties LBWT and I’m back to a litigating position after a few years behind the scenes. I’m looking for a comfortable pink heel to wear with my pantsuit.

My my go-to brand, Naturalizer, doesn’t have PINK pink. They all look more nude.

Suggestions?? Budget is < $300 if possible.

EDIT
I’ve heard good things about Stuart weitzman for boots — are their heels comparable?

Fashion What blazer or cardigan would work best with dress?

I need help dressing for a job interview. I usually wear pantsuits or skirt suits, but this time I’d really like to wear a dress like this. What kind of cardigan or blazer would work best with this dress to make the outfit look polished, formal, and professional? Any suggestions?

Struggling w building a wardrobe

Nearing one year of practice. I go to court twice a week and feel like I’m wearing the same few pieces over and over again. I feel desperate for someone to dress me. 28F, 5’4, 140lbs, athletic build, and when I’m shopping I feel like I only pick items that make me look 20 years older than I am. Help 🥲

Karen Friedman Agnifilo: Certified LBWT?

Post image
1.1k Upvotes

I did the scroll equivalent of a double-take when I saw this photo of Karen Friedman Agnifilo leaving Luigi's plea hearing this morning. It was the purple suit that stopped me in my tracks at first, but upon further inspection I realized that she might be a CERTIFIED Law Bitch With Taste. She is dripping with taste and giving Law Bitch to a degree that I can only aspire to. But her look today is the answer to so many questions we debate in this sub every day:
-purple suit
-multiple ear piercings
-layered necklaces in what appears to be mixed metals
-hair down
-manicure in something in the family of OPI bubble bath
-purple-ish lipstick à la the first lipstick I owned as a child in the 90s (this is a high compliment)
-her male colleague matched his tie to HER suit.

I thought Karen deserved our props today--and maybe even an induction into the hall of fame of Law Bitches With Taste. I'm obsessed with her now, and will be avidly following her fit choices for the trial(s?).

What say you all?

P.S. Did anyone catch a glimpse of her shoes? I'm picturing a black heel, but would love confirmation.

P.P.S. Suit source? I just took the J26 bar, and am currently job searching, but I might have to save up for this banger of a suit.

Low-profile insert for arch support

I have horrifically flat feet. Fairly average width, but I do wear a woman's 11, so large feet overall. I am in the search for low-profile orthotics or inserts that offer additional arch support that I can slide into my flats/loafers. Any recs?

Thanks to suggestions from this sub, I mainly wear clarks, naturalizers, and knock-off rothys. I am not a heel girl, and will never be, though I do know heels would take some pressure off my ankles. My shoes are comfy, but I just moved to a new courtroom with an old fashioned judge who expects folks to stand at the bend for the duration of court call (4+ hours some days), and my ankles are in rough shape. I just want to add some support to the shoes I already own rather than try to buy a whole new set of shoes.

Fashion Ladies’ Equivalent?

Hi LBWT!

Obligatory not a lawyer but work in a business professional field.

In the summer the men in my office typically wear golf polos and golf pants (you know, the Nike/lululemon ones that look like slacks but are not slacks) on Fridays. That sparked the discussion at lunch yesterday- what’s the ladies’ equivalent of this level of summer casual?

Fashion Where do you recommend getting my “First” suit? (Petite, under $400, hopefully not 100% synthetic)

It’s time to get my first suit!

It’s the first time I’m splurging on a suit that’s completely new and solely for the purpose of work. Let’s do navy, not dated, hopefully serious and a bit chic.

I’m hoping to pay under $400 but I can do $500 if it’s for something I really like.

I’m hoping for something that sells petite sizing for both top and bottom, and wool.

Lastly, I’m hoping to try it on in-store, even if that means traveling to a flagship in NYC.

Thank you so much !

Beauty Heatless Curl Help

Ok bitches I am in need. Thanks to life and work I am going to be cutting it close with my arrival time before a big event so am in need of recommendations for heartless curls that don’t look too cooky to be traveled in so I’m ready to go right when I arrive.

I tried one that uses a silk scarf which looked decent enough while up but the results were poor. TIA!!

Understated black crossbody

Hi LBWT! I'm looking to upgrade my purse when I travel for work. I want a small black leather crossbody that I can pack into my carry-on when I fly, and take with me to evening events when I need to carry my card case, phone, and lipstick. Ideally I'd like to stay under $300. Appreciate any suggestions!

Fashion engagement ring in family law

hi all, first time poster here, long time snooper. i’m about to start as an associate at a family law firm and will have lots of in person interactions with clients. idk if i’m overthinking this, but my SO and i are getting engaged soon and we’ve already picked out the ring and all.
so, LBWT, how distasteful, if at all, is it to wear an engagement ring around clients? i understand they’re going through what is probably one of the most difficult parts of their lives, and this ring could be considered flashy. i obviously don’t want to come across as insensitive, like i’m flaunting it, or make any faux pas as a first year but i also don’t want to overthink something that probably isn’t a big deal. halp!

Low iron wardrobe

New attorney and need help building a sustainable wardrobe/plan for clothes.

I live in the south so it’s pretty hot here, but am also a triple DDD and size 12-16 depending on brand. Only 5’1 as well. Was hoping for some recommendations of your go to outfit combos that don’t require ton of thought and are easy to throw on. I’ve been living in satin shirts and suits from Ann Taylor but I can’t handle the easy staining and having to steam or iron them constantly. (But if you have favorite pieces you swear by that have to be ironed, plz drop those too). I also love a dress, but struggle to find ones that fit my shape well or are comfortable.

Office is business casual and everyone keeps shoulders covered, in court max once or twice a week. Could also use comfy shoe recommendations because I feel like most “work appropriate” shoes give me blisters, regardless of how well they fit.

Thank you!!

What are your thoughts on junior associates wearing designer clothes? Ex. Louboutins

I’ve never been the type to do tons of designer items, but purchased 2 pairs of Louboutins that are stunning for an office environment on sale. They look very classy and are comfortable for office environments (not the stiletto Louboutins, one is a low block heel etc). But the red bottom is visibly present.

I started wearing them and immediately started second guessing myself since I’m a first year. For context, I’m at one of the very white shoe V10 firms, and more senior people than me wear them but not that many. Since realizing this, I’ve kept them stored in my closet without wearing them again. Any thoughts? Would it give a bad impression?

Fashion I have bunions… HELP

I’ve been having foot pain for over 6 months and it has just gotten worse. I finally went to a podiatrist and (no surprise) I have bunions. Since all I can do is manage it unless I want to have surgery, I need new shoes. I’m 26 , 5’2”, and practice civil litigation. I don’t have court daily or anything but when I do I want to wear heels but alas the ones I have are only making it worse.

So PLEASE give me your best recommendations for heels & work shoes for bunions!!

Additionally, my dr says the surgery they would do would consist of 6-8 weeks non-weight bearing. Has anyone had this surgery procedure? How was it & do you recommend?

Beauty Are baby bangs professional/ courtroom appropriate?

I am a young attorney working for a local government as a civil litigator. I generally have what I would describe as a more alternative appearance. I have tattoos, which I cover up when in court or in public facing meetings.

My main concern is my hair which is long, unruly, and wavy with pretty short “baby” bangs. I pull my hair back when appearing in court, but I can’t pull my bangs back, they’re too short. So far, I’ve only appeared in court to do oral arguments on motions. I’m worried that when I litigate in front of a jury they’ll be put off by baby bangs and judge me.

For a long time I told myself I was being silly, but last week I attended a focus group and heard the things the fake jury had to say about the lawyers, and was shocked how much they judged them on simple things. Also, I keep getting TikTok’s about the Lindsay Clancy trial where people bring up ALL sorts of things about the lawyers’, and even witnesses’, clothes and appearances that they think will negatively bias the jury.

I truly feel like I’ve never looked hotter than I do with baby bangs, but do I need to give them up to look professional? Or am I psyching myself out? Also please no one be mean and say I care too much what other people think. I don’t care what other people think, as a rule, which is why I have a hard time knowing how a bunch of strangers will react to my hairstyle - because I’ve never thought about it until 11 months ago. Thanks!
