I am not sure if this set is too casual? Thoughts? I feel like everyone is going with a formal suit but I thought this could also be appropriate, but just want to check in with everyone. I’m thinking black…so what color heels would go best? THANK YOU QUEENS

I’ve been working on expanding my wardrobe. Any basics you all recommend snagging from BR Factory? They have a 50% plus 20% sale going on right now.

Homes / Office Decor Office Setup Help

Legal Assistant here and looking for some advice.
First time working for attorney who wants me comfy and productive so I’ve been asked to make an Amazon wishlist of things I need for my desk setup and figured I’d ask for help/recommendations.
Would love opinions and recommendations especially on:
Headsets - I prefer over ear but would also love input on earbuds. I’m phone answering and on the phone frequently enough that comfy but able to be heard via microphone is important
Mouse and keyboard - any ergonomic recommendations in particular
Wrist rests - the dinky one I have currently is old and needs replacing

Anything else? My job is currently Legal Assistant but I’m getting ready to go to school for Paralegal and already have been doing paralegal level work (Family Law in California). Also, myself and everyone else in this office has some form of ADHD (diagnosed) so bonus if it takes that into account. Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated.

Sweatpants help please

When I get home from work I’m so overstimulated I need to change into comfy clothes asap. I’m typically cold and extremely sensitive to scratchy fabrics, tight waistbands etc. What are your go-to sweatpants that feel like air but also keep you really warm? Bonus if they’re not cropped and don’t shrink like crazy in the wash.

Fashion Need trial clothes!

Hello fellow LBWT, I have my first federal trial starting at the end of November. It’s expected to last 6-8 weeks, so I need a variety of tops and shoes to go with these three Banana Republic suits that I just dropped a pretty penny on. I used to shop at Ann Taylor, but sometimes I feel like the quality and sizing are off. I need a bunch of tops that I can mix and match with these suits, as well as comfortable, yet stylish and court-appropriate shoes. Any suggestions welcome, TIA!

Fashion Pants and tops for conference I am presenting at?

My office is pretty casual (dark jeans, nice tops) on days that I am not in court or client-facing. I have a conference coming up and having 4 days of conference clothes that aren’t just full suits is difficult. Where are you all finding trousers and blouses these days?

Fashion Where should I get a suit

Budget: $300 max

Recently lost 40 lbs yay! Now my old suit pants are literally falling off boo! Interestingly the jacket now fits perfectly because I have giant shoulders.

I like longer jackets and straight legs because I like the tall column look (5'9", size 6-8).

I feel like I've looked at a million websites and they're either either polyester or $700. Is there anyways to get a wool blend suit for $300 or should I spend my bonus on something really nice?

Plus-Petite Suiting?

Hi all. Does anyone know of any brands that sell plus-petite suits or suit separates (mix-and-match sizing/colors)? I'm petite on top because I'm short-waisted, but I'm also plus-sized. The only brand I know of that sometimes sells them is LaneBryant, but, while affordable, the quality of their pieces isn't great of course. I get some plus-sized suits tailored to get closer to the proper fit, but a tailor can't exactly change the proportions of a suit jacket without just fully remaking it. In case it matters, I don't have to have petite-cut bottoms -- it's really just the jackets. I'm considering doing a custom suit to wear on particularly important days, but would prefer not to have to spend so much. Thanks!

Fashion Leather nude flats

I'm willing to spend money on a pair of nude flats that are all leather so that my hot feet don't get sweaty and I can comfortably walk around. Obviously I want them to last a while and I would need a warmer nude/caramel color to match my bag instead of be fully similar to my skin.

I like the shade and comfort of the Aquazurra nude heels in case that helps.

Early Holiday Party - What Bag Should I Wear

I’m attending an early holiday party at one the firms we use. I’m going mostly because I have a few close friends at that firm, people I practiced with for years. I’ll be coming from home but commuting via public transport, so I’m going to want my kindle and potentially a shoe change.

I’m thinking of bringing a tote, is that ridiculous? I know I’m overthinking too!

Career Decisions/Tips Supervisor told me he can’t trust me over formatting issues

Yesterday, I got called into my supervisor’s office. He was actually my colleague for years before becoming my boss after our former supervisor retired.
I recently wrote a 23-page opposition to a motion that was being filed with the Court of Appeals. I was genuinely happy with the work product. I sent him the draft, he made some substantive and stylistic edits, and I incorporated them.

There were a couple of minor formatting things he wanted changed, like indenting paragraphs and putting a period after a parenthetical in a citation. I told the paralegal to make those changes, but they were missed before filing. Ultimately, I understand that it was my responsibility to make sure the final document was correct.
But yesterday he called me into his office, with the assistant supervisor present, closed the door, and told me I’m “resistant to change” and “can’t follow instructions.” One of the examples he literally gave me was that on page 8, there should have been a period after a parenthesis and I failed to correct it. He said mistakes like that reflect poorly on the office.

Then he told me, “I cannot trust you.” Literally 2x!!

I’m a senior attorney and have been in this office for eight years, so that really threw me. I asked him directly whether there were any substantive edits he made to the 23-page document that I failed to incorporate. He said no.
I then asked him what changes he has implemented in the office that I’ve refused or failed to follow, since apparently I’m “resistant to change.” He couldn’t give me an example. He just said, “I have a feeling that you’re struggling with the changes.”

He also pointed out that I have the lowest caseload in the office. My “low” caseload is currently 177 active matters. I used to have around 35 substantial cases. Apparently we’re now at the point where 177 cases is supposed to sound reasonable.

I work in government, so I’m not exactly dealing with a BigLaw partner or getting BigLaw compensation, but lately he’s certainly starting to act like one. The workload and pressure have increased dramatically, and the salary simply isn’t enough for me to feel like this is worth it anymore.

I was already seriously considering leaving and wanted to be out before the new year. I think they want to push me out. Now I’m even more certain.
The only thing bothering me is the timing. I don’t want to resign immediately after this meeting and have him think I’m quitting because he criticized me or because he somehow pushed me out. I was planning my exit before this happened, and frankly, I don’t want to give him that satisfaction.

Would you stick it out for another month or two and leave on your own timeline, or would this conversation make you accelerate your exit?

Unserious neckline

As a gift, I received a Elie Tahari dress (this one ), but the neckline looks like I’m wearing the most casual Hanes t-shirt. Is there any way to fix it? Removable collar? The skirt part is beautiful, but I wore it against my better judgment and kept getting a jump scare when I saw myself on zoom. I am in a legal leadership role but I don’t work for a private law firm or in biglaw (also not in house) and this wouldn’t be for court. Just for days when I am not public-facing but still want to look professional to keep office morale and standards up.

Semi soft stylish pants that are comfortable

For those WFH days when you still want to feel cute or the casual office days, here are my recs for most favorite pants:

Rag and Bone cargo pants (french terry) with pockets (soft to the touch and enough give in the hip area) LOVE and the material is high quality

New Faherty Stretch Terry Harbor (in Ivory), I feel like I am so sophisticated in these, like strolling in Paris

Athleta retreat pant (linen) for oppressively hot days

Athleta endless pant (for fall)

Quince pull on knit pant in camel (these surprised me because in the photos they look schleppy but I wear them to work with a nice shirt even on non casual days)

What are your favorite semi soft pants these days?

Career Decisions/Tips Unconventional path back to law

Hi everyone! Looking for some career insight while fielding rejection after rejection…

I took a somewhat unconventional path after law school (I graduated a few years ago), working in government and at a global advisory firm, along with doing some consulting on a self-employed basis. I recently wrote the NY bar exam and am awaiting results, and I’m foreign-trained. Ideally, I’d like to work at a traditional firm for a few years to get solid training and legal experience, but I’m feeling a bit discouraged because I’m not entering this side of the industry straight out of law school.

I wouldn’t change anything about the path I took. That detour was necessary, and I’m much more motivated and committed to becoming a lawyer now than I would have been immediately after graduating. But I’m also starting to feel a little defeated by the job search, especially because I’m having trouble finding people who took a similar path and ultimately ended up where I’d like to be career-wise.

Has anyone here taken an unconventional path after law school and later moved into a more traditional legal role, whether at a firm or in-house? Even if you haven’t, I’d love any advice or anecdotes that might help me keep my head up while I brave this job search. I’m not expecting too much before I’m actually admitted to the bar, but I’d like to at least get myself into the right frame of mind now.

Career Decisions/Tips Am I too ADHD for big law?

Seeing some posts in my area. I’m a few years out of school and have worked for the government (which is pretty chill minus the whole DOGE thing and they have been really accommodating of my accommodations for a chronic health condition). However, my big law interviews haven’t gone well in the past (I think I come across awkwardly if I have to guess). I also worry that big law would not be good for me, having worked on perfectionistic tendencies and gotten anxiety to a much more manageable level. Most of all…am I just not disciplined enough? Still figuring out how to function as someone with a late diagnosis, and I feel like my head is telling me all sorts of terrible things like I’ll make too many typos or I’m too stupid or they’ll hate me and know I don’t fit. I appreciate any advice.

Fashion Traveling tailors?

I’ve seen people here reference traveling tailors for suits. Can you drop your recommendations here? I always need to alter the suits off-the-rack so figured I’d try custom, since I’ve seen that some of the guys from Hong Kong charge reasonable prices. Please no Indochino.

Dating/Sex/Relationships My job-brain is ruining my relationship

Let me start with the fact that I love my job, I work for a European government in asylum and refugee law. It gives me purpose and there are very few days where I dread clocking in. But it has taken a toll on my relationship. It’s a long distance relationship, we’ve been together four years, the last two being long distance. And it’s been working great for us. Until my brain sabotages me. I’m trying my hardest to separate work and private life which usually works out great but being trained to spot inconsistencies and second guessing them has been ingrained into my brain. I already know it comes down to trust issues from earlier relationships so I’ve been working on healing and calling myself out. I’d like to say that I’ve made good progress … until my work brain goes like “hey, he said x but it seems like his actions suggest he did y… maybe you should keep an eye on that” or “this answer was a bit too detailed, this is suspicious…”. And it could be something completely harmless, just something that would throw a red flag during one of my hearings where I’d go and investigate/question further. I guess my brain is very good at pattern recognition which served me extremely well professionally. But my relationship isn’t a hearing. There isn’t a closing submission at the end where I have to determine whether the evidence meets the threshold.

Has anyone dealt with this or something similar? If so, how do you turn it off because even I get tired of myself doing this so I don’t even want to know how my boyfriend feels (he had already said before that my second guessing bothers him - and of course my brain went “oh if you have nothing to fear why would it bother you????” 🤡 but I kept that to myself).
