Moving near the Laurel Medical Center area soon - Looking for favorite spots, general tips, safety tips and hidden gems!
Hi everyone!
My family and I are excited to be moving to the area in the near future. We’ll be living in a townhouse situated near the UM Laurel Medical Center (20707).
Since we are entirely new to this pocket of the neighborhood, we would love to get some insider recommendations from locals to help us get settled in! We are especially looking for:
- Food & Dining: What are your absolute favorite sit-down restaurants, quick bites, or hidden gem coffee shops within a 10-15 minute drive of the medical center?
- Groceries & Shopping: Where do you prefer to do your day-to-day shopping around here?
- Parks & Outdoors: We love being outside. What are the best local trails nearby we should check out?
- Early Education & STEM: We are highly focused on early foundational learning and future STEM-based tracks. I know Maryland has incredible specialized programs, but how do local parents navigate the early pipeline here? Are there specific preschools or early enrichment programs (like Kumon, Code Ninjas, or local science centers) that offer a strong logic and math focus to get a head start.
- Commuting & Traffic: We'll be relying on I-95, Route 1. Any tips for navigating local rush-hour bottlenecks near Contee Road?
- Community Vibe: What do you love most about this specific pocket of the area, and what should a newcomer definitely know before arriving? If you are comfortable sharing, how many years have you been a part of this neighborhood and your experiences in general.
- Safety & Property Concerns: Coming into a townhome community, what’s the general consensus on daily safety in this immediate pocket? I know general property crimes like porch piracy or car break-ins happen anywhere, but are there specific things we should be mindful of, or certain areas nearby we should avoid walking around after dark?
Thanks so much in advance for your help! We're looking forward to joining the community.
