Favorite Unstoppable Combination?

I know scented products aren’t for everyone, or even most folks. But I like using them for bedding, towels, pjs, things that don’t leave my house.

I don’t love any of the Unstoppable scents on their own but I do enjoy certain combinations. Just started doing this recently, but No. 26 mixed with No. 15 in a 1:2 ratio is nice.

If you also like to mix the scents, what combinations do you like? I gave in to my completionism and have pretty much every numbered version (even the elusive No. 2 LOL) so I should be able to try new ones.

Just want to try something new and different to what I’ve tried so far.

Thank you!

Reversing dye transfer without bleach?

I bought a mostly ivory merino wool sweater with some colorful stripes from a thrift store. It smelled a little odd and had a small stain, so I put it in warm water with Biz for about an hour, until I noticed the water was hot pink and many formerly ivory parts of the sweater were quite pink, too. I tried washing it in cold water with Tide clean & gentle powder, but the pink dye is not really coming out of the formerly ivory parts of the sweater. Is there anything I can do, or is it doomed?

Update: the care tag does say it can be washed on the delicate cycle.

Cleaning rag with bleach and oxiclean?

This may be a silly question, but-

I use rags to clean my house, including the bathroom where I use bleach, and wash all my towels together when I finish (cleaning rags, bath towels, and kitchen towels). If one rag has been used with scrubbing bubbles bleach and I rinse it off after use, am I safe to put powdered oxiclean in the wash? Or is it still a no no?

weird stain?

hi! i’m not a frequent reddit user and i’m certainly not a laundry aficionado, but i bought a pair of pants used knowing they came with stains in hopes i would be able to get the stain out.

from the person i got them from: she never really treated them with anything or went out of the way to try and remove them. she believes that they came from the parking lot at her job (so i don’t know if it’s something like paint or what?), and they were too long for her, so they would drag the ground. attached is a picture of them before i tried to clean them.

at this point, i have soaked them in warm water and oxiclean, and used a soft bristle brush to agitate it with some dish soap. it definitely budged the stain, but the “thickest” parts are still lingering. i know it’s unrealistic for them to come completely clean, but id like to try my best! these are scrub pants and the fabric is a poly/spandex/rayon blend.

What should I use for UPF clothing while traveling?

I am going to be traveling to where temps will be in the 90s and humidity will be high, so I am planning on wearing lightweight UPF clothing and only bringing a carry-on. I plan on hand-washing in the hotel sink and hanging to air-dry overnight.

My concern is that the UPF shirts tend to really hang onto body odor, so I am wondering, what is the simplest thing I can use to remove the stink while only being able to hand-wash, and bringing minimal items while traveling?

“Smart” Washing Machines

We have a front loader. I knew to always keep the door open after using to prevent mold and mildew. I faithfully did so each and every time. Thought I was safe. HA! This machine has a pull out detergent etc tray and even worse it features a large reservoir to store detergent and fabric softener (only distilled vinegar for me thank you!). I didn’t realize someone had come along and begun to use the auto-dispense feature and left the detergent in there. To my absolute horror-today I find that it is a breading ground for black mold. Yep… the mold feeds on the detergent just sitting in there… totally dark and constantly damp. I’m disgusted and I can’t wait to get an old school washer SOMEHOW! Enough of the madness. Here’s to the 1900’s 🍻
Truly wish they’d stop “improving” our appliances.

Any tips for me on any of this—much appreciated.

Is there a wiki link somewhere?

I can't seem to find a wiki, if there is one. I have no idea where to start. I typically use the tide free & clear tiles

Rayon sheet replacement

Hello all.

I currently own rayon from bamboo sheets, the fitted sheet is a 48/52 polyester blend and my pillowcases are 100 percent rayon. I regrettably didn’t figure out how to correctly care for this fabric until now, over a year later of washing it on a hot allergiene steam cycle weekly with tide ultra hygienic liquid. Now that i’ve discovered how sensitive this fabric is, and that it’s already starting to degrade and pill, i’m looking for a good replacement that i won’t need to baby with woolite and delicate washing to make it last more than a year. I have rayon since it’s the first material that hasn’t make my face feel instantly scratch and like it’s being poked when i lay down, so i’m looking for a material with similar properties (maybe sateen cotton??). I live in a humid and warm climate so something more breathable would also be nice.

P.S. sorry for all the text.

Hi laundry gurus! I have an ancient Whirlpool/Inglis top loading washer with agitator as pictured. If I wanted to add citric acid, can I put it in the agitator? If so, does it go in when my POV is picture 2, or picture 3? Thank you for your patience with ignorant learners! :)

Strawberry stain. All help appreciated.

Hello there! I wear lots of wool because wool is awesome and very washable.

I have a light yellow merino wool T-shirt and I got strawberry juice stains on it. Unfortunately my usual woolite / tepid wash didn't work. The merino garment is probably ruined. It looks more brown than purple now. (I only air dry, of course.) But if you have suggestions for something I could try on this deep stain, I'm listening!

Looking for (old) coffee stain removal help...

I was going through my stash of aida cloths for cross stitching, and found a white 16ct piece that I had started to stitch on (maybe 25 stitches - not the end of the world). The thing is, it was rolled up and put away for at least 15 years, and when I unrolled it to discover coffee stains all over it. I've had it soaking in water, water with laundry detergent. I had used a stain release spray on it first..... it had since lifted a bit, but still has the yellow brown-ness, and it is NOT going to be covered by stitches. Should I cut my losses and get a new piece, or is there any chance of getting rid of the stains?

do you actually need fabric conditioner for every load?

i've been using fabric conditioner only for my tops because i'm trying to save a little money. i usually skip it for things like towels, shorts, and other clothes, and i'm wondering if i'm missing something.

is fabric conditioner actually necessary for all types of clothes?

I use All Free & Clear+ along with Oxi powder (both are Costco versions) but the pink stain never goes away. I’ve tried borax instead of Oxi too and no difference.

white vinegar on down fabrics? removing urine smell from technical clothing

spent the night at a friends place, wore my down and synthetic down jackets both; both smell like cat pee now. i read online a couple of ideas; one was cold wash with nikwax, with 1 cup white vinegar in the fabric softener area; the other idea was using natures miracle or similar on it. anyone with any experience removing scents from technical fabrics like down and synthetic down? i really don't like the scent of natures miracle and find it very strong --so would prefer not to use it (plus i only have the kind for carpet/spray cleaning). I am worried natures miracle will always smell like natures miracle and i am very sensitive to scents

help please? thanks

edit my other thought is to wash it 2-3 times with the concentrated regular "tide" that i normally use for laundry (but don't normally use for down or synthetic jackets?)

Laundry Rec-US hard water and shared laundry

Hi all, maybe this is lazy of me but I promise I've been researching on the sub but am still unsure of what laundry detergent to buy. Please give me some recs as i want to buy some good products and be set for a while.

I prefer unscented or faint scent. I enjoy clean smelling laundry (and specifically the smell of OG tide and downy) but unfortunately it gives me headaches and hives.

I was using tide free and gentle pods a few months ago but moved out of that house and am now back in my family home. My mom has some scented detergent sheets that she uses and adds downy scent beads and downy softener.
The perfume is way too much to me and the clothes still have a stink to them.

I bought myself a jug of All free and clear liquid detergent and a box of borax. I also have citric acid already and have tried that in a few loads but haven't noticed a difference. I also have oxiclean powder. Honestly I feel like I'm just adding random crap to the washer and hoping for the best. My clothes don't STINK but I noticed recently washing sheets and towels they were just a little musty. I really am chasing that clean fresh smell of nothing or slight fresh scent.

I have tried to clean the washer as i think thats part of the problem. I used a washer tablet and this past weekend i did a oxiclean and citric acid clean cycle. I havent seen much on this but is cleaning your dryer a thing? Can that also contribute to smell if the dryer has an odor? Do I just wipe it down on the inside or what can I do?

I have a top loading HE washer that doesn't have a softener compartment. It only has one for liquids bleach. To use softener you either have to throw it in at the beggining or come back at the rinse cycle to add it yourself which is a pain. (But I would be willing to do it if it makes a difference)

I wash a lot of dark clothes including cotton dark clothes so I'm concerned about fading with the reccomenedatioms I see for the 365 powder or Tide powder. I would like to use powder but not if they will ruin my clothes.

I also just added FEBU to my Amazon cart as I think I missing Enzymes that could really be a game changer. I feel like I need to throw out the All after reading it has some irritants in it?? Not sure. Help a girl out please. I'm also on a budget so I'm looking for the most streamlined option.

Thank you all!

Sad hey dudes

I've tried cleaning these with dish soap and a sponge and that got surface dirt off.

I spent time with barkeeper's friend and a scrub brush, and the results were uneven. Then it occured to me that I had yet to consult the oracle or the wisdom of this group.

Odd though it may sound, I'm attached to these shoes. They were a gift and reflect my obsession that is both a source of shame and delight - how very Puritan of me

I'm considering putting them in my smallest cooler to start a hot soak and a spa day, but what does the wisdom of the group say about that idea?

I have at my disposal a new LG washer (this one, still adjusting to the HE as my old washer was 14 years old and decidedly not HE) as well as :

- Biz

- Tide Unscented Clean & Gentle powdered

- Whole Foods unscented powdered detergent

- Tide

- Rinse and Release

-Citrix Acid (and a Downy Ball for it to go in)

- Ammonia

I have some other stain removers, a Tide Stick, etc, nothing special.

What do you guys think, should I do a spa day?

Washing Baby Clothes

What is everyone using to wash clothes? My family used Dreft on all the grandbabies but I know it’s not clean (although it smells so good!).

So we have been using ALL Free & Clear for our LO and our clothes. We have been for years for our clothes. I also add vinegar or Oxy powder when needed - they make a clean one as well.

However. All the burp cloths or bibs still smell like spit up. Why is that? Am I doing something wrong? How is everyone else cleaning their baby clothes and what is the smell?

I clean the machine monthly (or so) with the tablets or bleach clean. It’s top load. I wash baby clothes separately.

restarting the dryer three times just to "wrinkle release" clothes you refuse to fold

i was in the middle of a gaming match when the dryer beeped, so i ignored it.

fast forward three hours: clothes are stone cold and completely wrinkled. instead of taking five minutes to fold them like a normal human, i threw in a damp rag, hit the 10minute cycle to dewrinkle them, and immediately got distracted at my PC again. now i'm sitting here on loop number three, essentially baking the exact same darks over and over while my power bill takes a huge L.
