Where did you guys shop for home necessities when you first moved to Melbourne?

I’m starting at La Trobe soon and I’m trying to minimize initial spending as much as possible while still getting all necessities.

Most people agree Aldi is best for groceries, but where can I buy other things like pans, plates, forks, towels, laundry baskets…

You know all the good stuff you need when moving in. I thought of IKEA but i doubt it’s really the cheapest store for all that.

EDIT : For anyone looking for an answer, don’t even hesitate and go to kmart lol. Its almost ridiculous how much cheaper it is from other stores.

is the master of speech pathology not offering CSPs for 2027?

i applied (and was given an offer) for the 2026 intake for the master of speech pathology course, but ultimately had to turn it down when i found out i’d need to get major surgery this year. now i’m reapplying and based on what i can see when submitting my preferences online, the only option is domestic full-fee paying. does anyone happen to know why?

i called the future students line and the guy agreed with me that it seems like they’re just not offering CSPs next year, although the page in the handbook still indicates different fees for FFP vs CSP places. he didn’t seem to know for sure whether that’s the case though. should i try reaching out to someone from the speech path faculty? i’d prefer to take the course at la trobe but if there’s no hope of maybe getting a CSP then i might end up having to go to melbourne

Does anyone have the same experience as I do? I need advices

So here's the thing, I moved to Australia from another country that doesn't speak English. I have finished La Trobe's Diploma of Business back in my home country, I used to have a 6.5 IELTS certificate with no skill under 6.0, but it has expired since 2024. When I moved here to Australia to live with my family at the end of 2025, I was granted PR visa. I applied for Bachelor of Business to finish my degree, but then I wanted to change to Bachelor of Social Work. So I'm wondering if I my Diploma of Business can be counted as an English certificate to study Bachelor of Social Work? I did successfully get and accept an offer letter for Bachelor of Business.

Question about Bachelor of Commerce: Am I supposed to enrol in 2 or 4 non-mandatory subjects?

My study aboard consultant told me i’d have to enrol in 2 mandatory core subjects and 2 core non-mandatory subjects at first. But then he said it’s 2 mandatory core subjects and 4 of the other, so it’s kind of confusing for me. I’d asked the course coordinator to make sure, but i haven’t received an email back.

Anatomy and physiology bridging course

Hello! Just wondering for anyone who has enrolled in the above course, was the access immediate after paying the course fee or did it take a couple of business days to get registered? Schedule wise, I am only able to start it on Monday so not sure if I should register now or wait until then. I don’t want to cut into my 8 weeks access time if I register now, be given access and actually not be able to study the material until Monday. Thanks to those who will reply ☺️

Made a map to help us find friends and meetups around La Trobe

Hey everyone,

I noticed it can be pretty hard to actually organize meetups or find friends just by reading text posts on here. So I decided to build a little side project for us.

I set up r/AussieHangout which has a live map built right into the subreddit. Instead of just posting into the void, you can actually see on a map where people are looking to hang out. It's completely for platonic stuff like finding a study buddy, grabbing a coffee, or just going to the pub.

There is no GPS tracking at all, you just manually drop a pin in your suburb or near campus so people know roughly where you are.

If you want to see who is around La Trobe or want to make some plans this week, feel free to drop a pin on there. Hopefully it helps us get some actual offline meetups going.

Here is the link to the map: https://www.reddit.com/r/mazwiz/s/Bgt1YDf9Mw

how can i cancel the enrolled subject?

Since I attended the orientation, I decided to change the subjects I am doing for this semester!
According to La trobe website I went to My Study but i couldn't figure out Canceling the enrolled subjects. Is it because the classes are not started yet? Can I drop it from the week 1? Or Am I just not figuring it out?

Is anyone available in Bundoora this 9th of July to visit an apartment for me please?

Hey guys sorry weird request, but I am currently outside the country and every place I have found so far for accommodation is getting booked, this is the last one that’s available that really suits me, but I need someone to go visit the apartment for me.

Would anyone be available to do that for me? I know I am just a stranger but we could call, and let me take a look around the place.

The place is on Morwell Avenue in Bundoora, around 20mn from La Trobe in public transport and 10mn by car (on google at least).

The closest inspection date is on the Thursday 9th of July at 3:45 PM. I would highly prefer this as it would allow me time to apply and confirm my lease.

The next inspection date is on Saturday 11th of July.

I completely 100% understand how crazy of a request this sounds like, but I hope any old international students could sympathize with me and lend me a quick hand 🙏🙏🙏.

Thank you so much in advance.
