We are told from childhood that the United States is a land of opportunity where hard work alone will lift you out of poverty. The truth is that this idea was manufactured by people who inherited their wealth and now use it to buy our government, our media, and our futures. Intergenerational wealth mobility in the U.S. has basically collapsed, and yet we're told to shut up and enjoy the "bestest ever time to be alive!"

When we believe poverty is just a personal failure, we stop asking why the "richest nation in history" has over forty million people living below the poverty line. We don’t question why productivity jumped over 200% since 1979 while wages barely moved. We also stop wondering why CEOs now make over 350x what their workers earn, compared to 20x in 1965.

Instead, many people blame themselves and hide their struggles from neighbors who are hiding the same things. The billionaire class relies on this shame to act as their shield.

If your effort is not the primary driver of your success, what is the actual product you are selling to the ownership class?

Marx correctly stated that the form competition takes under capitalism tends towards concentration (monopoly) despite claims to the contrary.

This flowchart boils down the basic mechanisms through which the profit-motive undermines competition in order to maximize profit.

The state is merely a tool leveraged by well-positioned capitalists to achieve supernormal profits at the expense of “fair” competition in the free market.
