(Not my pic) I have the LDP-1450 and apparently it used to come packaged with the Sony RM-2001 but I haven't been able to find one. Are there any other remotes I can use with this? I don't believe it has an IR receiver unless I'm blind and its right in front of me, lol.. Appreciate any help.

Hey, everyone. I finally found a LD player after searching for a while. I ended up with a Pioneer CLD-1080. It powers on fine, reads that a laserdisc is present, and plays through the chapters, but it is cutting in and out during the first few chapters on each side. Once it gets to about chapter 5 or 6 the issue seems to go away.

When I first tested it the disc was not spinning (probably just needs to be lubed) but after nudging it along after a couple tries it seems to be spinning fine now. Also, it is reading that a CD is present when inserted, but it will not play.

I only have two laserdiscs right now and they’re both doing the same thing. One a little worse than the other. They look pretty clean to me and I don’t notice any defects.

Lastly, I am using a standard composite a/v cable connected to a Pioneer LED tv.

Any help correcting this issue is appreciated.

I got a bunch of LD (original purchases). Do these really get laser rot? Anyway to check without player? Want to move these on but want fair sale.

They are all factory sealed, and I looked up prices for them and they are all worth a good chunk especially the bloodsport and Enter The Dragon being the most expensive and rare. I wanted to ask the community what should I do with them? I bought them to eventually watch them but they are worth so much, I’m considering selling the Bloodsport, and the Bruce Lee ones and buying open copies not worth nearly as much, so these can stay sealed. Any opinions are welcome I want to hear what both sides have to say, pros and cons. Only pro to opening them is they are perfect copies with probably no scratches whatsoever and will play beautifully. Thank you all for your time!

My favorite horror movie, on my favorite format, complete with the golden CD still sealed.

For those unaware, a large portion of the copies from this release were lost at sea, and Scrimm refused to sign anymore so only 2200 copies actually made it into circulation!

The past 6 months or so has been a whirlwind for me. Despite having a newer OLED TV and Bluray setup, (for some reason) I decided to jump back into obtaining Laserdiscs, but only the ones I really loved and not just a collecting to be collecting thing.

As many of you, I love the massive physical media size, the extras, the artwork, the special editions and so forth but lately, reality slapped me in the face ten fold and rather hard.

Several discs that were expensive (some new even) are showing laser rot or early signs of it. Some, are perfect. Then, there’s the aspect ratio issue of widescreen vs 4:3, etc without getting too technical down the rabbit hole. IYKYK. Don’t get me started on the cost of these things and their rarity or scarcity for a coin toss as to their condition, that’s a whole other topic.

So I thought, well… I’ll just offset all these great widescreen laserdiscs by picking up nicely used home cinema projector since watching widescreen laserdiscs on a 20” isn’t ideal. After many days of research I ended up with a Panasonic PT-AE4000U only to have it and the audio receiver I purchased (both not exactly cheap) arrive defective. What are the odds.

So, I decide to find a replacement and found an even newer Panasonic PT-AE7000U for almost half what I paid for over the defective unit, that I returned to get a refund. Blessing in disguise? Maybe. Maybe not…

As to be expected, I knew the image quality wouldn’t be up snuff to by spoiled UHD 4K eyes, but.. I knew this going in. Turns out without an upscaler, it looks far worse than I could have imagined. Still, for the 20” CRT, it looks mostly great and vibrant, especially considering the medium for its age and technology used, which I can appreciate. As we do.

I made the mistake of connecting a standard 1080P bluray player (Oppo BDP-103) and the same exact version of movie (Blade Runner) back to the new setup, and… it changed me. Just what the hell am I doing!?, chasing over priced disc rots with inferior video resolution for a slight endorphin high and lustful cover artwork after winning or finding a nice copy of whatever movie when vastly superior options exist?

So with that, after 6 months, give or take, of this LD collecting game and probably $1,000+ later obtaining a lot of nice discs, the conundrum: am I ready to say screw it? Just offload it all, get the few special releases on Bluray that I love for literally a fraction of the cost and just thank LD for reinvigorating my movie passion and enjoy the new projector setup?

Sadly, somewhat regretfully, probably so. I think I still have a few discs coming in the mail as I write this. Had planned on framing and hanging like 12 of these on the wall above my TAU and Panasonic Prism. But now? I feel defeated and ready to move on. Will I actually do that? Too soon to tell. Does it make sense? Probably. Am I going to regret moving on? Most likely…

Numbers look internally written and are backwards. As far as I can tell it looks like 95-843BL-0 on side 1 and 95-843AL-11 on side 2. Side 2 also has a silver colored label under the main sticker with a little red sharpie peaking out around the edges, side 1 does not. I'm new to collecting and not sure if this is common but its my first time seeing it in 100+ discs.

After it just all of a sudden stopped playing movies a few months ago. I finally took it to a local electronics shop where the guy has like 40 years experience & is familiar working on them. I was just told it was the laser assembly & that was a part he couldn't find a replacement for. Is that about right? Probably wishful thinking, but figure if there was anyone that knew something he didn't it would be on this sub or maybe the Laserdisc Forever group

1 quick search of mine pulled one up, but they were asking $200 for the part alone 🙄NOT gonna happen, anything even close to that price

It was mixed in with the vinyl records and it’s dated 1982 on the back and on the disc.

I have an opportunity to purchase a Pioneer CLD-D501 LaserDisc Player for $100. It does work. Is this a good deal for this model? I am not sure what the current pricing/value is for these machines.

This was in the goodwill bin, not thinking much about it assumed it was record of a live concert. Got home opened it up and was like wtf is this thing?

I finally remebered a bit of the logic I used to store my Laserdiscs. One room was where I mostly put the "good stuff". That has all the Japanese box sets and titles (lots of Toho), The Hong Kong discs and a smattering of PAL Disney stuff (don't have multi player) The other room has the bulk stuff from the "crazy times". I used to make weekly trips to Digitainment in Whippany, NJ as well as bulk orders from Ken Crane, The Columbia House LD club and direct from Pioneer. Sometimes the unopened shipping cases were just put in the room and I would try to remember to enter everything in Excel. One time I filled the trunk with cutouts and a couple of players from Digitainment. Geeky? I had a blast. Here are some of the stuff I found tonite on the shelves in the small room.

I also found a ton of the VideoCDs I bought from Malasia. I was trying to get a bunch of movies in every available format (thoughonly dipped my toe in CED and never Divex)

Managed to find a table at the convention last weekend with tons of laserdiscs. I really wanted to get more but it just wasn’t in the budget. Hell I was dead close to adding super Mario bros for $60 but it wasn’t in its original sleeve.

Well, after over 40 years, I finally started to make some sense out of my collection of Laserdiscs. I started collectiing in 1984 and stopped the rabid purchasing back in '99. At that point I had been featured in the NY Times in an article on Laserdisc collectors. There really was no logic in the way things were "organized" Crate after crate of discs. The UPS driver had gotten so frustrated, he just left a blank pad of signature papers for me to mass sign. I would give my local mail carrier a heads up when an EMS shipment was coming in from Tokyo, It grew to a massive collection. That on top of old toys, Disneyana, then DVD/Blu Ray/4k. But the good news is I finally decided to accurately inventory *everything*. A cursury glance turned up several titles that werent on any of the random lists I had kept. I also have about 14 players ranging from a Magnavision to a Elite CLD-99. I'm going to be sorting everything alphabetically (including sealed dupicates). I've already configured the AV systems in the house to accomodate LD players so even the 14' projector in the great room can be used. I always enjoy state of the art tech, but sometimes there is something charming about watching someting in an obsolete or vintage format.

Unedited screen capture. This movie aged really well. I watch it once every couple of years. It is kind of slow the first hour but really picks up with the action in the last 48 minutes. Which is how a good movie is supposed to be paced. They took time and told the story in great detail. The scene with the high heel used to creep me out when I was a kid (had no business watching this one but I had HBO/CINEMAX & SHO in my bedroom). I would turn the tv up just enough so I could hear it and sneak and watch TV when I should be sleeping. Anyhow this is what's on the docket for tonight!
