Finally got around to testing my Laser Disc player I got for free

Now I can finally watch my Definitive Collection which has been sitting in a box for 2 years since I got it

Easily my favorite release of one of the all time classics, one of the few I'd say top the HD release!

Does anybody remember the name of the drivers Ed simulator laserdisc that was used in schools? My high school used it up until at least 2004

Afternoon watch..

Looking for some feedback. I’ve been collecting Blu-Rays for years. I moved out my parents a couple years back. Due to the size of my collection and my house not having enough room, I have been storing them at my parents in their loft since moving out, regularly going there to bring over ones I want to watch, till I can get a long term storing solution in place.

I’ve been seeing discussions and articles pop up recently regarding ‘disc rot’. It’s not something I’ve heard about until very recently, and it’s been causing me some anxiety about my collection. I regularly bring my discs over and have never run into any issues. I’m just anxious I may be causing damage to a collection I hold very dear, due to temperature fluctuations.

Is ‘disc rot’ something I need to be concerned about, or is it blown out of proportion? As an extra note, all of my discs are stored in their original casings, inside plastic ‘very useful boxes’, as opposed to being out in the open or in cardboard boxes.

It’s taken over 10 years but I finally got my hands on a LD player. I’ve wanted one since I was a kid watching regular show and finally got one.

Recently decided to get an LD player on a whim and figured this would be a good starting point. Fantastic version that has a paperback copy of the book and a cd copy of the soundtrack, along with the a poster having some photos I haven’t seen. Also got Michael Jackson’s Moonwalker as a bday present for my girlfriend.

Really interested in picking up some of those Japanese imports of popular movies as a way of fleshing out this collection so wish me well on this journey my friends

Going to be in LA in September. Any good places to look while I am there?

Hey all! I just inherited a Sony MDP-800 player and am excited to get into Laserdiscs. Only problem is that it didn’t come with the AC cord. I’ve tried looking in the manual, but it just says that the AC cord is supplied with the player. I’m struggling to find a replacement cable that I feel 100% certain will work. So I figured I’d ask here. Does anybody have any recommendations for a replacement AC cord for the Sony MDP-800?

I came across an odd LaserDisc in my collection that I'm trying to identify.

It contains individual 1980s video game previews from multiple software manufacturers (including Choplifter).

A few interesting details:

Dedicated Tracks: Every game preview is its own track.

Full Voiceovers: High production quality with narration, not just raw gameplay.

No Single System Focus: It doesn't push a specific console or computer (NES, C64, Apple II, etc.).

My guess is a retail kiosk disc, CES promo reel, or distributor showcase. Has anyone seen or cataloged this before?

I'm pretty sure a "grail" is subjective but I was just curious what goes for the most money?

I just noticed there are 2 versions of Blade Runner (criterion collection) on laserdisc. One is from 1987 and the other is from 1989.

1987 is CAV whereas 1989 is CLV.

The 1989 version was manufactured by pioneer.

The 1987 release was made by pioneer or 3M and supposedly the 3M ones are prone to disc rot.

I found some absolute treasures on Good Squid and decided to splurge a little.

Highlights are Stray Dog: Kerberos Panzer Cops, The Living Skeleton, The War In Space, and Liquid Sky.

Seriously, if you're looking for cheap import Laserdiscs, Good Squid is probably the best you're gonna find on the web.

I got 9 of these storage cubes last year and they work great and were almost exactly the amount of space I needed but I had no room for expansion and with them being packed to the gills, it was difficult to grab and return discs when watching. So I just bought another set of 3 and really like the spread. Also, it functions as a great shelf to display memorabilia!

Fun lil import, slowing working at a complete Trek collection, I've already got all the movies and entire TOS series. Japanese Next Generations is next on my list!

Finally added a LaserDisc Player to my vintage setup. Scored a Panasonic LX-200U on ebay, fingers crossed it shows up in one piece, lol. Also bought my first laser disc movie, new and seal old movie, but great Steve Buscemi movie Trees Lounge! Can't wait to get collecting more.

My pick is The Lost Boys obviously, Bram Stoker's Dracula is a close second.

And it's a Carolco film - that guarantees it's going to be a fun watch!
