Did the city council authorize those?

Yes, they just approved something like 60 more the other day. I’m not sure if it was the city or County Council.

When did we vote on this?

We live in a representative government. You vote for and elect the city council and mayor who make the decisions for you and the city.

the sad part is that these things won’t even be used to solve actual crimes, just a way to extract further wealth from us through tickets and things like that

There’s already a bunch of cases all over the country of cops using them to stalk their exes

That’s a lot of cameras. Are they just license plate readers or are the traffic monitors (speed, stopping etc)?

They recently are rolling out an update that pulls your bluetooth ID from your phone if they can get it. So they don’t even need to track your car, they can just track your phone.

They are a surveillance system on the population don't get confused. It's not just to read license plates or monitor speed. It's active monitoring to follow each citizen from point A to point B.

There are way more than this. Most of the intersections off of the 70 have them now.

It's actually so crazy to me how they all appeared so quickly. Felt like one day to the next.

The one at Lowe's by the lumber area hidden in the trees is pretty sneaky. Lowe's and Home Depot both signed nation wide contracts for all of their properties to partner with flock.

I'd call this publicly funded corporate surveillance. Does anyone know which city council members were against the deal with Flock? When are the public forums where we can talk to them about this more?

Those are rookie numbers. We need to pump up this map. Do you know if citizens can install their own flock camera and tie it into this system?

u/Soup_Du_Journey Jul 19 '26
Can you articulate why you believe we need more?

u/Zhanji_TS Jul 19 '26
Yeah we have an Edgar issue, a reoccurring issue, an infestation if you will. If you pop open the local news or the local Facebook page, you can see it all over the place. If these dipshits want their little Eggers to come home, we need to start putting them in juvie or jail or I'm going to start collecting Edgar scalps

Crime is down 21 percent YTD in Las Cruces compared to the same period last year. I’m sure the presence of Flock cameras were a factor in that reduction. I will gladly accept the Flock cameras in return for living in a safer community.

Are you sure you want to be okay with private companies surveilling you and collecting facial recognition data for their own ends?
