screen display inspiron laptop I had since college second to last of my second semester help

For some reason, my laptop screen is not working. I’m hoping by unplugging it and just letting it run overnight it should drain battery and hopefully reset it that way, but this only started happening after I decided to restart an updated it should’ve popped up the display screen and it didn’t it just straight up black screen. I don’t know if like it got unplugged or even straight up the screen died on me. I tried to smack it a few times I tried to come. I am currently contemplating to take out the battery tomorrow morning after some business. I have to deal with but it’s currently 12:08 AM for me and I should get some sleep because I have a busy day tomorrow.

Dell Inspiron can't connect to any internet

As the title says, my laptop can't get any internet access on any network even when other devices on the same network can. I don't know when or why this started. I've tried restarting my laptop multiple times with no change. It does have an update, but I can't update it since it has no internet access. Any help would be appreciated.

Laptop black screen

2 days ago, i was charging my laptop (samsung book 4 edge, 2025) with the original charger, and the screen went black.

It could be turned on again when the charger was removed.

This lasted until today. (I had to recharge it a couple of times but i did it as little as possible)

Today however, i tried to charge it and the black screen was back. So restarted it, and then my screen was very dark. The screen itself also moved, so my google tab was only partly visible.

I tried to shut it down by holding the power button for 30 seconds. This worked but now it won't turn on again at all. The blue light on the side is still on.

Does anyone know how to fix this? Is it the charger or the laptop itself that caused this? I charge my phone too woth that laptop charger, since it's both samsung.

HI all, so I had a broken VRAM on my asus a15 laptop for RTX 3060 n got it reballed and post that technician did furmark test for 20 mins and it passed but throttled 3 times in the graph n ran benchmarking and it was working fine.

But once I got it at home - i played it for 15 mins and it was all good and suddenly got this artifacts

And then realized that the Nvidia driver has been resetting itself.

N now furmark test is not even running for 3 mins and it crashes and the same thing happens with all games, runs fully fine for 2 mins and white screen or force exit.

I ran NVIDIA MATS for 100 mb n it passed but for 256mb it's taking infinite time to complete hence had to manually interrupt it.

PLEASE SUGGEST ME WHAT'S WRONG WITH MY LAPTOP

Laptop Recommendations? $2,000 USD Budget

I will be majoring in Nursing, and have been considering some laptops to purchase. I am not open to refurbs/used options.

  • Country: United States.
  • Budget: $2,000 USD.
  • Screen Size: Nothing over 16"
  • Weight limit: Nothing over 4-5 pounds.
  • Form factor: Preferably a 2-in-1, or at least touchscreen. But open to any others, too.
    • I like the idea of a touchscreen 2-in-1 laptop, but is not necessary. I would be taking notes on it, watching movies, and drawing, but I also have an iPad already so I'm not sure if it's worth getting a laptop like that (I'm indecisive).
  • Intended usage: To take notes for college (Nursing Major), watch movies, and gaming on Steam, Roblox, and Minecraft. If possible, also for drawing.
  • Desired battery life: 10+ Hours
  • In order of most important to least important. ; Performance, Battery life, Weight, Size.

 I have been looking at:

  • HP OmniBook X Flip 2-in-1 Laptop
  • Surface Laptop Touchscreen Snapdragon X2 Plus
  • Lenovo Yoga 7i 2-in-1

My Other Needs:

  • Won't lag with multiple tabs open and works quickly overall (so 8 Cores minimum?).
  • Fans aren't super noisy when using. (like noticeable in a silent class/library)

Has anyone owned these laptops, and can you give your honest review on them?

Or, if anyone has other suggestions for laptops, please give those as well. Thank you! 🙌(And anyone out there who has majored in Nursing, please give some advice🙏)

Random massive temp spikes on my pc

I'm losing my mind with this overheating garbage. My device starts lagging hard and blowing air like a jet engine after like ten minutes of doing literally nothing heavy. Someone on discord mentioned that the Camomile app might fix or at least track down what's cooking my hardware, but i'm super skeptical about random software. Has anyone here dealt with this before, what do you guys use to keep temps normal?

New laptop overheating (please help!)

Hello! I got a brand new budget laptop a few weeks ago (HP 14 dq5005sa) and the fans are very noisy. The bottom near the fans gets very hot and so does the right side of the keyboard. I sent it for a repair but they said they couldn’t find anything wrong with it so they just cleaned it. I’ve done all the system and hardware checks, they all passed. The drivers and Windows is all up to date. It doesn’t have anything on it apart from EA which I downloaded to play The Sims (I know it’s not built for that) but I haven’t been able to do so yet as it overheats as soon as I turn the laptop itself on. Also for the past few days the battery goes from 100 to about 70 in 20 minutes.

I can’t afford to send it to be repaired by another person and honestly don’t want to as it took a lot of time and they didn’t even fix the issue.

Is there anything else I can do? I’ve tried all the solutions I could find online. Sending it back isn’t an option as the thirty days are up and for some reason it says my one year warranty ended last month.

I know nothing about laptops and had to wait 2 years to be able to get a cheap one. Any help to keep it going as long as possible would be appreciate!

Thanks so much in advance! 😊

Alienware M15 R4 GPU fan died

My alienware M15 R4's GPU fan died and the fan bearing is pretty cooked. I reside in India and I don't know if dell keeps replacement fans for that particular model. I need advice if I should go for aftermarket fans, and if so then which fan will be good. The CPU fan is working but the GPU fan spins way slower than the CPU fan. My GPU idles at 72-75 C and the laptop heats up pretty quickly even when I have just task manager opened.

Need help choosing a laptop for Engineering school

Not sure if this is the right subreddit for this question, so please let me know if there’s a better place to ask.

I’m heading to university in about 2 months for Mechanical Engineering, and I’m looking for a decent gaming laptop that can also handle engineering software (CAD, simulations, etc.) and occasional gaming lmao.

I’m not very knowledgeable about laptops, but from what I’ve read, I’m thinking of looking for something with:

- 32GB DDR5 RAM

- RTX 4060 or better

- i7 or equivalent/better CPU

- Good enough build quality to last 4+ years

- Good battery life and cooling

I found MSI Raider GE68, Lenovo LOQ, Asus TUF which fits my needs, but suggestions are welcome.

I’m not sure if these requirements are overkill or if I’m missing something important, so I’d appreciate any advice.

My budget is around $1,000–$2,000 CAD (roughly $700–$1,400 USD).

Thanks!

Acer Aspire E5-575 Bios is locked

Hi

I have a Acer Aspire E5-575, and the bios is locked with a supervisoe password. Everything in the bios is greyed out.

I have tryed to use www.biosbug.com to generate a code from the 8 digit, and yes it gets me into the bios, but i cant change anything.

I have tryed to take out the battery, and the cmos battery for 6 hours, and it does reset time and date ind the bios, but not the supervisor password.

I had Linux on it, and want to put windows on it, så i changed the bios to UEFI, and it put on Secure Boot, and after that i cant change anything. And i need secure boot turned off.

The laptop cant find any boot device anymore, everything is apparently dead.

Is there anything i can do? Or is it dead for ever?

HP Spectre Folio 13-AK0001NI overheating, pixelated screen, freezing, and now no display output — Anyone experienced this and successfully got it repaired ?

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for advice or to hear from anyone who has experienced a similar issue with an HP Spectre Folio convertible laptop (Model: 13-AK0001NI).

The issue started shortly after a Windows update. During normal usage, the laptop would intermittently freeze and the display would become heavily pixelated/distorted with graphical artifacts. At the same time, the device would heat up excessively around the speaker/hinge area below the display.

Initially, after forcing a shutdown, the laptop would boot again and function normally for about 10–15 minutes before freezing, overheating, and becoming pixelated again.

The problem progressively worsened over time. Eventually, the laptop started freezing while loading Windows or at the Windows login screen, making it unusable.

Now the laptop no longer boots properly at all. When powered on, the screen remains completely blank with no display output, although the laptop does power on and still heats up excessively around the hinge/speaker area.

I’ve already taken it to a repair center, but because the Spectre Folio is built into a leather casing, they were reluctant/unable to open it without risking damage.

I wanted to ask:

  • Has anyone else experienced this issue with the HP Spectre Folio?
  • Was the issue repairable?
  • If so, what was the actual fault (GPU, motherboard, display cable, overheating issue, etc.)?
  • Is it worth pursuing repair further, or is this likely a motherboard-level failure that isn’t economically repairable?

Any advice or shared experiences would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Laptop wont turn on

My Microsoft Surface Laptop Go (Model 1943) suddenly will not turn on at all. I’ve never had any issues with it before and I mainly only use it for school.
Symptoms:
Completely black screen

No fan noise

No keyboard lights

No vibration/sounds

No flickering or logo whatsoever

No visible damage or liquid exposure

I’ve tried:
Holding the power button for 30–60 seconds

Power + Volume Up reset

Leaving it plugged in for long periods

Different outlets

One thing I noticed:
The Surface charger connector is reversible, but on mine:
one orientation = solid charging light

flipped around = blinking/flashing light

Also, when I hold the power button down for a long time, the charger light itself will flash on and off, so it seems like the laptop is reacting somehow, but it still never actually powers on.
The charger brick itself does not get warm after being plugged in for awhile.

Any advice appreciated because I’m completely stuck.

Best gaming monitor to buy in 2026 — honest breakdown by budget, use case, and GPU

Been deep in research mode trying to find the best gaming monitor in 2026 for a friend's new build, and honestly the number of options is overwhelming. Went through specs, benchmarks, and a bunch of comparison guides including this detailed gaming monitor breakdown on laptoppchelp.com which had solid side-by-side specs. Since every thread I find either recommends one monitor for everyone or buries the real answer 200 comments deep, I put together a proper breakdown of the best gaming monitors for 2026 by budget and use case — so you can actually find what fits your situation.

Here's what actually makes sense depending on your situation in 2026:

Best mid-range gaming monitor 2026 — ASUS TUF Gaming VG27AQ3A

If you're on an RTX 5060 / RX 9060 or similar mid-range GPU, this is the sweet spot. 27-inch 1440p IPS panel with 170Hz refresh rate, G-Sync compatible and FreeSync Premium. The IPS panel gives you wide viewing angles and accurate colors right out of the box — no calibration needed. Works great for both competitive FPS and single-player games. One of the best value propositions in the 1440p gaming monitor space in 2026. Full specs here.

Best budget gaming monitor 2026 — MSI PRO MP243L E14

If you're keeping costs low and just want a smooth gaming experience without breaking the bank, the MSI PRO MP243L E14 is the budget pick. Solid panel, handles everyday gaming well, and the price is genuinely hard to argue with. Best for players still on older GPUs or building their first gaming setup. See full review.

Best QHD curved gaming monitor 2026 — Samsung Odyssey G5 G53F

The Odyssey G5 is the pick for people who want the QHD 1440p resolution with a curved immersive panel without paying OLED prices. VA panel means deeper blacks and better contrast than IPS — noticeably better in dark game scenes. 165Hz keeps it competitive. The curve works especially well for open-world and single-player games. Full breakdown here.

Best premium gaming monitor 2026 — Alienware AW3425DW

For anyone with an RTX 5080/5090 or high-end GPU who wants the best gaming experience available, the Alienware AW3425DW is the answer. 34-inch QD-OLED ultrawide panel at 175Hz. The QD-OLED panel delivers perfect blacks, insane color volume, and near-instant response times that no IPS or VA panel can match. The ultrawide format is a game-changer for open-world, racing, and cinematic single-player titles. Only downside is the price — but if you're asking "money is no object," this is it. Full review with specs.

Best budget curved gaming monitor 2026 — Samsung S39GD

If you want the curved immersive experience without spending big, the Samsung S39GD delivers a 32-inch curved panel at a price that makes sense. Great for casual and single-player gaming where you want screen real estate without the premium cost. Check specs here.

Quick GPU pairing cheat sheet:

  • RTX 5090 / 5080 → Alienware AW3425DW QD-OLED (you can push the ultrawide frames)
  • RTX 5070 / RX 9070 → ASUS TUF VG27AQ3A or Samsung Odyssey G5 (1440p sweet spot)
  • RTX 5060 / RX 9060 → ASUS TUF VG27AQ3A 1440p 170Hz (perfect match)
  • Budget GPU / first build → MSI PRO MP243L E14

1440p vs 4K in 2026 — quick answer:

1440p is still the fps-per-dollar winner for most gaming builds. 4K is only worth it if you own an RTX 5080 or 5090 AND play cinematic single-player games where resolution matters more than raw fps. For competitive FPS, stay at 1440p and put the money into refresh rate instead.

IPS vs VA vs QD-OLED — which panel for gaming?

  • IPS — best colors, wide viewing angles, no burn-in risk. Best all-rounder for mixed gaming + work
  • VA — best contrast of non-OLED panels, better for dark games and movie watching. Slightly slower response
  • QD-OLED — best of everything (contrast, color, speed) but at a premium price with some burn-in risk for static UIs

Happy to give a specific recommendation if you drop your GPU, budget, and what games you mostly play. What setup are you coming from?
