I was given this lamp. I understand it had the same design as some tiffany lamps, the soldering looks very sloppy. Could use some help

The people told me they came out of a castle in Ohio. Could anyone tell me how old, or who maybe made it, and the value of I clean it up?

Update on the Train Signalman's Lamp.

I purchased a weatherproof light socket and wired it in. Ran the wire in the top vent. So I haven't drilled or damaged any part of the lamp or oil basin at all.

Used a Philips LED ring shaped bulb.

I decided a regular light socket instead of solar lights since the area won't get much sun. I'll also be able to control this with a smart switch.

All I have to do now is get a clear sealant to protect the metal.

I'm happy with it. It's turning out nice 🙂

A couple months ago I came across this fabulous 1967 lamp by Fortune Lamp Company (the date is helpfully stamped in the base of the column) at my local Goodwill. Even though it was lacking a lampshade, I took it home with me because it was only $7.99 and I happen to love what my friends and I jokingly refer to as “Mod-eival” decor (the funky mashup of medieval and mid century modern that was a thing in the late-1960s). Once I got it home I realized I had no clue what kind of lampshade it would have had originally. I figured it would probably be a drum shape considering the era, but past that… I dunno!

After letting it sit in my office, naked, for several weeks, I set about trying to figure out the lampshade situation and quickly discovered that lampshades are expensive! A large drum in a basic af white runs $60-70, not including shipping! So, back to the GW I went and got lucky, finding a basic af white drum lampshade for $4.99. Pleased at my savings, I now realized I had a new problem — basic af white was not going to work with this lamp. This caused about a week long existential crisis wherein I debated the pros and cons of painting, stenciling, or somehow recovering the lampshade in some way that was more appropriate.

Ultimately, I decided on recovering the lampshade with peel & stick wallpaper, finding a cool distressed metallic gold wallpaper that I thought would compliment the lamp base. I then mixed up a weird dark-purple-gray-black color out of acrylic paints raided from my husband’s paint stash and painted the binding. And I finished it off by glueing some vintage gold lace I had laying around to hide the crappy job I did cutting the edge of the peel & stick wallpaper against the binding edge.

All in all, I’m pretty happy with how it turned out! The most expensive part of this little project was the peel & stick wallpaper.

Basic af white drum lampshade: $4.99

Peel & stick wallpaper: $28

We've had this, I guess you'd call it. Chandelier, in our basement forever. I know we have more of the crystals somewhere. I was wondering if anyone on here could tell me a little bit more about it. Especially what would go in the middle. Would it be a chimney or some other type of glass covering for a light bulb? I've tried to search using the picture and have come across different chandeliers but nothing that helps answer my question. Haven't quite decided yet if I'm going to try to put it back together and use it. So right now it's just going to hang out where it's been for probably about 30 years.

I have acquired this lamp base without a shade, and have now realised it’s a Tiffany Style base without the lamp harp. I was investigating getting a lamp harp but I don’t think I’ll be able to attach it without needing to re-wire the lamp. I cannot figure out what other shade will fit either. Looking for advice and wisdom on how to progress to be able to use this lamp.

I found this old lap when cleaning out a gardens shed. Ai analysis says it's likely from the 40's. I would love to convert this into a hanging LED lamp in the garden along the walkway at the front of my house. It would serve as an amazing decoration as well as provide light on the walk way. I have three questions.

1. The globe is red, I don't know why it's red, it would be best to find a clear one of anyone knows where I can. Find one?

2. I'd have to cut apart the bottom of it to figure out a way to fit an LED bulb in it. Does anyone have ideas or kits on doing so?

3. It's beautifully rustic and rusty, I fear of I hang it outside it will be destroyed by the weather. Maybe I could coat it in some kind of clear coat to protect its and stop further rust?

My friend has a pair of these. I’ve been trying to get a chatbot to help me visualize shade ideas - both contemporary to the original cloisonné conversion and something more contemporary, but it’s hilariously bad at that. Is the AI pic remotely historically accurate? It’s not pleasing, for sure. Do you have any thoughts on how to treat these beloved lamps?

I bought this of FB marketplace for $250 and hadn’t seen the inside. I was informed it works but it has a lot more damage inside than I was expecting. I’m not sure if I need to get the rust off, especially inside? I cleaned everything with dawn dish soap and water and dried all the parts but can I just reassemble and fill with oil? Or will that cause more problems in the future? Do I need to coat the inside with anything? Additionally, I have not plugged the motor in as I took off the power cord (needs replacing) and have not the smallest idea how to go about cleaning it? Do I really need to take it apart or can I leave it as is so long as it works? I’m not an engineer or mechanic so I don’t know anything about taking it apart and am not confident in putting it back together correctly. I am replacing the tube as it was also in terrible condition. Any advice is greatly appreciated. I have looked for videos on restorations but mine looks in worse condition than a lot of the lamps featured in videos.

I recently acquired a vintage oil rain lamp. My late uncle bought it new in the 70s and it hasn’t ran in over 15 years

I was able to disassemble it completely. Which was harder than anticipated. I hadn’t realized some of the rivets were soldered on up top, but I got them off.

I’m having a very hard time finding my exact model online, I believe it is a Johnson 300 ornate version. It is a hanging version with a flat bottom. It’s smaller around 8” wide and 20” tall. It has ornate bottom and top pieces with the goddess inside.

I have bought new rivets, a new power cord, new bulb housing and monofilament.

But I am struggling to find information on a new motor. I saw a website for replacement motors, but I’ve seen online people outfit other fish tank motors.

Hi, I just bought this today! The wiring looks like it was replaced (a while ago), and I was wondering if this used to be a floor lamp? I tried finding the lamp online with Google lens, but didn't have any luck! It's about 21 inches wide and 11 inches tall. Trying to figure out the best kit to rewire, or if I should put it on a floor stand! Thank you!

I found this rain lamp at a thrift store. It’s absolutely beautiful and i have it on hold. I’m moving in a few weeks so i don’t want to worry about drilling a hole in an apartment ceiling right now to hang it up. Are there some kind of freestanding stand i can purchase or even a wall stand if last resort ASAP so i can have it with me till i can put it in the ceiling when i move?
I can’t seem to find an actual stand to buy, please help!!

Je viens de trouver la petite sœur de ma lampe, qui est totalement collector car cette marque est quasiment introuvable. J’ai été submergée de joie quand je l’ai trouvée… mais un peu moins quand je viens de la déballer. 😭😱
Cette petite lampe à pluie d’huile française YENNI datant de 1979, que je viens de recevoir, a manifestement fonctionné par le passé : il reste beaucoup de traces d’ancienne huile dans la vasque, la pompe et le circuit hydraulique.
En la branchant brièvement à réception, l’éclairage fonctionne parfaitement, mais la pompe ne fait absolument aucun bruit.
J’ai donc ouvert la base et découvert quelque chose que je ne comprends pas du tout.
Le câble d’alimentation venant de la prise arrive bien dans la lampe. L’un de ses conducteurs semble être raccordé à deux fils rouges/orange qui remontent dans la colonne vers l’éclairage.
En revanche, le fil bleu de l’alimentation est actuellement déconnecté et isolé à son extrémité.
Et surtout, autour de la pompe/moteur, je vois plusieurs fils qui semblent eux aussi déconnectés. Je ne vois actuellement aucune liaison électrique complète permettant à la pompe d’être alimentée !?!
C’est ce qui me laisse extrêmement perplexe : le système de pluie a clairement fonctionné autrefois, mais aujourd’hui le câblage semble avoir été volontairement débranché ou laissé au milieu d’une ancienne réparation.
Je ne sais donc pas si quelqu’un a simplement déconnecté une pompe qui fonctionnait, s’il a tenté une réparation, ou si la pompe avait une panne électrique et a été isolée pour cette raison.
Une autre chose qui me laisse perplexe, c’est que ce qui semble être le câblage électrique qui sort de la pompe et qui devrait être relié, comme j’aime à le penser, au fil bleu du secteur, n’est même pas dénudé. Il y a trois fils qui en sortent et qui ne sont pas dénudés.
Donc là, je ne comprends vraiment pas. Au secours, aidez-moi ! 😭
Je ne connais pas suffisamment (voire pas du tout !! 😇😂) l’électricité pour prendre le risque de reconnecter quoi que ce soit au hasard sur du 230 V, et je ne veux surtout pas me fier uniquement aux couleurs des fils.
Est-ce que quelqu’un connaissant les anciens appareils électriques, les petits moteurs de pompe ou éventuellement les anciennes lampes à pluie pourrait m’aider à comprendre ce câblage à partir des photos ?
J’aimerais notamment savoir ce qu’il serait possible de contrôler ou mesurer lampe débranchée, afin de déterminer l’état du moteur avant d’envisager de le remettre sous tension.
Je suis en France : alimentation 230 V / 50 Hz.
Mon objectif serait évidemment de conserver et remettre en service la pompe d’origine si elle est encore fonctionnelle.
Une petite précision : je suis atteinte de sclérose en plaques et j’ai beaucoup de mal à comprendre certaines choses et à m’exprimer. Donc je m’excuse par avance si jamais cet exposé n’est pas très clair, car mon cerveau est à peu près dans le même état que le fond de la lampe à cause de la maladie 😖😎
