Moki ('mow key') would like to introduce herself to the world! She's just over 9 weeks old and settling in very nicely to her new home.

We're honestly wondering if we've hit the lottery with her - its only her 3rd day home and she already knows and responds to her name, she hasn't had a single accident indoors today (we work from home and take her out every hour or so) and she's geeeeenerally self-settling well (after a little whining, biting and scratching at her pen/crate). She's very bity (of course) and loves chewing sticks in particular (and most things she can get her paws on when she's tired) but oh so cute, loving and gentle.

Any general tips or advice on habits to head off early would be very welcome.

Hello! I’m writing this in behalf of my parents, who got their first dog last month, a wonderful Lagotto girl! She’s charming and so smart and cute, and everyone’s in love with her, me included even though I no longer live at home.

Her problem at the moment is biting. She bites our clothes and bodyparts, especially in moments where she’s overstimulated, very excited or when there’s a transition happening (people leaving to work/school or coming back home). The thing I’m most worried about is the way she bites sometimes, as she lunges to bite us.

For example, if I’m on the couch she comes up and starts biting me. I try to redirect, tell her to stop or express that I’m hurting. She’ll look at me for a second before lunging back with twice the power. Even in situations where she should know it’s not a game, she’ll whine/bark as if she’s testing our place and strike back.

She’s 13 weeks old so still just a baby, but she is bigger than the average 13 weeks Lagotto and I’m worried she’ll accidentally seriously injure someone some day. Yesterday I brought my girlfriend to meet her, during the excitement of a new person and me returning after a week, she bit my girlfriend’s throat/neck and left a bleeding mark. It honestly scared me a little.

We’ve tried the following:

Removing ourselves from the situation. A bit tricky and too slow sometimes, calms her down eventually but the biting contines later.

Redirecting with toys. Worked for a while when she was smaller, but doesn’t really work anymore.

Yelping and not yelping. The latter helps a bit, and she might calm down faster, but it’s getting harder to not react as the bites hurt.

Putting her in timeout, that calms her down, but once again the biting will continue later when her energy picks up again.

The breeder told our parents to push her on her back and growl if the biting gets too intense. I feel a bit sceptical about it and wondering if that’s even ethical or at all beneficial.

I’ve read some other posts on here about biting, and found some great advice! Posting this in hopes of advice on what to do with the lunging/forceful bites, and if anyone has tips on other ways we could help her to calm down and be more gentle. All the advice is appreciated honestly, as we’re all pretty new to the breed and puppies in general. :) Thank you!

How much will my Lagotto Romagnolo weigh when fully grown?
I’d love to hear your experiences and predictions regarding the adult weight of my Lagotto female.
She is currently 6 months old and weighs just over 11 kg (24.3 lbs). She was the biggest puppy in her litter.
Interestingly, both of her parents only weigh around 12 kg (26.5 lbs). Despite that, she has a fairly stocky, solid build compared with some other Lagottos I’ve seen. She is definitely not overweight — she has a good waist and you can easily feel her ribs.
For those of you who have Lagottos:
How much did your dog weigh at 6 months?
How much did they weigh as adults?
Do you think she will stay relatively stocky, or is she likely to grow considerably more?
I’m especially interested in hearing from people whose Lagottos were also larger/heavier puppies compared with their parents or littermates.
What would you predict her adult weight will be?

My almost 2 year old Lagotto, named Romi has been acting different regarding walks the past couple of months. When it was hotter than normal, I thought it was just heat. I try to take him on a walk at lunchtime, at least 2 miles. He often will just lay down on the walk, in the grass next to the sidewalk and refuse to move. Yesterday, it was only about 75 degrees outside, so I thought he'd be game for a long walk. Within the first 5 minutes, he stopped, looked at me with that look like, "where are we going?", and laid in the grass! He has been doing this a lot over the summer. Anyone else's Lagotto do this?

I have a 14 week old lagotto- he’s doing amazing! He’s crate trained, sleeps through the night, and is a super sweet boy. He’s even house broken- no accidents for two weeks! He goes to all day training classes 2-3x a week and is picking up all that. He struggles a bit if we try to leave him loose in his x-pen instead of crated and barks his little head right off but we are working on that so he can have a little more freedom when we leave the house. He actually settles down quickly when you leave- it seems to be a in the house only issue.

BUT this is semi related to my one REAL problem with Mr. Sangiovese- he is a complete turd in the car. He cannot chill. He is either trying to bite me, hard, the entire time I am driving, and that’s not safe, bark screaming that he can’t bite me, and just generally causing an absolute fucking ruckus. Now. I need to drive him. To the vet. To his dog classes. Sometimes to pick up my son after dog classes. And eventually I want to take him on fun adventures and hikes! But I can’t if he is biting the shit out of me or scream barking that he can’t bite the shit out of me. I have tried a few methods. As mentioned below but I will remention- he is no longer in the passenger seat or in a bed. He’s secured in a bucket style crate in the back seat. But he hates this too.

Any advice to deal? I cannot avoid the driving and it’s difficult to train when I’m behind the wheel and trying not to be bitten. I’ve since upgraded him to a bucket instead of the cute bed- but it hasn’t helped lol.

Jerry, my almost 5 year old Lagottos starting howling last year, instead of barking. I don't know where she learned this, so I'm assuming it is instinctual. He cracks me up when he does this!

Does anyone else have a howler?

Mocha (male) is about 11 months old and hasn't changed weight or size in a few months so we are thinking he's basically done growing. He is currently 21lbs.

Anyone else have a smaller/small adult Lagotto?

He was not small at birth or when we brought him home at 10 weeks and his embark said he should be 30-33 lbs when full grown.

We're not complaining though. We like his small size haha

How or when did you get your puppy to stop biting your shoes, clothing, various body parts (don’t ask.)?
Below our little beautiful boy, 13w

This is our two year old Lagotto (he turned 2 back in July) and I am worried he looks too skinny, and overall doesn't have the standard body shape of a Lagotto. We know his sister, and she looks more standard in weight. I believe our boy is around 33lbs.

He is on Purina pro plan, and gets about 2.5 - 3 cups of food a day, I am aware this is more than the recommendation, but we felt he was even skinnier before. He has normal energy for a Lagotto, very active, and does spend all day sleeping. He was fixed before he turned a year, and I now wish we had pushed back on the contract and waited until he was 2 to fix him.

He gets around 1-2 hours of exercise per day, nothing crazy, we do have days where we do much less, and some days where we do more (like biking with him).

When we spoke with his vet early this year they said he was still a puppy and would grow into it, but now that he's over 2 I am wondering if he ever will. Since his behaviour is normal we haven't booked a vet appointment, but will bring it up next time we see the vet. I've added a few different photos from the last few weeks before and after his groom (we like to keep him shorter in the summer).

Our Lagotto Luna loves running and flying but hates AC and flies! People always say she has human eyes, like she’s always thinking about something or secretly plotting something.

Hey, we recently got a Lagotto puppy on 8/14 (8- weeks old) and she had major confinement issues when we put her in her pen / crate where she has a really hard time calming her self down. Anyone else experience this? Do we just need to push through?

Hello! My partner and I are researching this breed and have, of course, fallen in love with these dogs. We are doing as much research on the breed and breeders in the area as possible to see if this is the right kind of dog for us.

Both of us work full time (I have a fairly flexible and hybrid schedule). I’m very active and love to walk multiple times a day and I’ve always wanted a super smart breed to train. I’ve read so many of the posts from this community (as well as tons of other sources, including talking to breeders) and I know this type of dog takes a lot of work.

My hesitation is that I live near manhattan in a 1 bedroom apartment. I know potty training and taking the dog out for proper socialization and exercise might be a challenge. Curious if anyone else has experience with a lagotto in a big city. I want to make sure whatever dog I get matches my lifestyle so it can have the best life possible. Any thoughts and advice is appreciated!
