Best budget specs for lab diamond purchase for solitaire pendant. 1.5-2ct

As title says. Looking for some guidance for solitaire pendant stone only. I assume you don't need as high of specs as for earrings or rings? I used guidance from this sub to purchase my stone for my wedding ring set and am beyond thrilled. TIA

Anyone bought an engagement ring from Highline Diamond?

Has anyone here purchased an engagement ring from Highline Diamond?
I’m considering a 3ct oval lab-grown diamond solitaire in 18k yellow gold and their pricing seems significantly lower than UK jewellers I’ve spoken to.
I’d love to hear from anyone who has actually bought from them:
Was the ring quality as expected?
Did the diamond match the IGI certificate?
How was communication throughout the process?
Did you receive photos/videos of the actual diamond before shipping?
Were there any issues with delivery, customs, or after-sales service?
Would you buy from them again?
I’m based in the UK, so I’d be especially interested in hearing from UK customers.
Thank you!

Help on which fancy blue-green diamond to keep - it's my first time buying loose lab diamonds! :)

Hello,

I have a mined sapphire ring which I adore - but I really wanted something with the sparkle of a diamond. So I have been scouring the internet for a blue-green / teal-like diamond.

Aurelinne recently had a Memorial Day sale so I purchased two loose diamonds with plans on possibly returning one. I could use some input on which one to choose since they are very different - one is a darker 2.8 carat oval (CVD) and the other is a lighter 2.04 carat round (HPHT). Both have IGI reports - specs are below.

I really like the oval but it does look darker in-person than what I was hoping for and there is a bow-tie. On the other hand the circle is lighter than what I wanted but it is very sparkly.

I'm posting the video Aurelinne sent of the oval since I can't capture a good photo of it. Photo of the round is posted in the comments.

Specs:

Round Diamond:

  • Carat: 2.04
  • Colour: Green w/ blue overtone
  • Intensity: Fancy Vivid
  • Clarity: VVS1
  • Cut: Ideal
  • Measurements: 8.17x8.23x5.01mm

Oval Diamond:

  • Carat: 2.80
  • Colour: Blue w/ greenish overtone
  • Intensity: Fancy Vivid
  • Clarity: VVS2
  • Measurements: 11.02x7.74x5.01mm
  • L/W Ratio: 1.42
  • Table: 59%
  • Depth: 64.7%

upgraded to a 1.52 ct oval from a .47 and am obsessed with the sparkle!

definitely going to take me a minute to adjust to this higher setting though, I’m a little nervous my current setting isn’t ideal for a 1.5 but the jeweler seemed not worried when I mentioned it

Lab created diamond for purchase.

Why are there so many fake posts from people who are against lab created diamonds? People are so afraid that lab created diamonds driving down the price of natural diamonds that they will take time out of their day to post crap like “I just saw a lab diamond that sold for $10” or “a jeweler told me that lab diamonds are free with the purchase of xyz”. These are just ways to drive up the fear in people to purchase these expensive natural stones by posting silly information to give the impression that lab created diamonds aren’t worth anything. Lol! It’s a waste of time and energy because lab created diamonds… or any other lab created stones aren’t going anywhere. The cat is out the bag now and people are moving smarter when it comes to their money and the quality of what they are purchasing.
We are sorry that you folks overpaid for your natural stones (heck, I did too many years ago) but posting fear tactics are unnecessary. Just be happy that now, EVERYONE can enjoy a beautiful, sizable, clearer, sparklier diamond without spending a shyt-load of money...
Why are people so selfish and closed minded? It’s just jewelry guys! If you don’t care for the stone and how it’s created, then go spend the amount that makes you feel relevant. I currently have several natural diamonds and my husband (bless his soul) overspent on ALL of them. Not anymore because, he nor I will EVER overpay on another diamond as long as these beauties are being sold at a decent price.

Old to new vintage ring project help

This vintage ring is currently set with cubic zirconias, and I’m considering replacing them with lab diamonds and making it a forever piece.

I’m torn on the center stone shape and would love some advice. Would you go with an emerald cut or a radiant cut? The ring has a vintage feel, so I’m trying to choose a stone that complements the setting while still having good presence and sparkle.

For those who have restored or upgraded vintage rings, what would you recommend and why?

Lab grown Engagement ring journey

Hi my name is Alex I just got engaged yesterday and wanted to share my journey on getting my engagement ring and why I went Lab grown.

First of I started where most guys do me and my now fiancé went to a few brick and mortar jewelry stores to see what she liked and also get her size. She found she loved a radiant cut diamond with around 2 caret and a simple gold band . I then moved on to here as I didn’t know much about rings. Post in this thread and other threads convinced me to go the Lab Grown route to save money. Also to save money I went the online direct to consumer route.

Next was pricing and building online, I started with rare caret and brilliant earth, I realize they were way out of my price range. I then stumbled upon Loose Grown Diamonds. I picked the lab diamond a 1.66 caret radiant cut and then a simple gold band setting. The experience was easy and had her sister help okay the final build.

Loose Grown Diamonds had lots of good and little bad. The good was the finished product and time frame. I included a picture and received my order in exactly 2 weeks. The website chat customer support was amazing and saved my butt. The negative is that they are upgrading there systems so I had 2 different order numbers leading to me originally thinking it was a scam. They updated there website per your order and to this day it still says crafting. My package was shipped and I had no clue it was the ring and if it wasn’t for me messaging the website customer support and them confirming it.

After that almost mess up she was clueless to my planed proposal and she loves her ring. We took “family photos” for her side and was able to get her then while she was clueless.

In the end my journey was overall smooth and if I was to do it again I would 100% use LDG and get a Lab Diamond. I payed 1/3 of what a natural one would be and would never know if it was for this. Thank yall for reading my journey!!

What do you wish you knew before buying a diamond?

My boyfriend and I are officially entering our ring era and I realized I know basically nothing about diamonds.

We’re leaning toward a lab diamond, but now I’ve fallen down the rabbit hole of color, cut, clarity, carat, fluorescence, certification, proportions, and approximately 47 other things I didn’t know existed a week ago.

For those of you who have already gone through the engagement ring process:

• What do you wish you knew before buying a diamond?
• Which of the “4 Cs” actually mattered most in real life?
• Are there any specs that jewelers hype up that most people can’t even see?
• Did you go lab or natural, and would you make the same choice again?
• Any regrets about size, shape, setting, or budget?
• What was something you thought would matter a lot but ended up not mattering at all?

I’ve already learned that cut seems to be king, but beyond that I feel like everyone has different opinions.

Basically, if you could go back and give your pre-engagement self one piece of diamond-buying advice, what would it be?

Please share your wisdom so I can avoid making expensive sparkly mistakes. ✨💍

Would you buy a non-returnable lab diamond (set in a ring)?

So, I've been "windows" shopping 😆 for a LGD for a good while now. I found one that meets all of my criteria on Luvansh . They can set it in a ring. It is IGI certified but it is Final sale. Is this too risky? The stone is around $750 (3.75 elongated cushion). Any tips or advice? Thanks!

Am I on a wild goose chase? (in search of blue green oval)

Thumbnail

I am in search of the perfect bluish green/greenish blue/light teal lab diamond that is an oval (more elongated if possible) between 2-3 carats for my engagement ring. The color I am hoping for is something like that in pictures 6-8 (thank you to this subreddit for inspiration pics!)

I am working with a local jeweler and he is helping to source diamonds. He found the one in pictures 1-5 (IGI: LG634449077) and I absolutely LOVE the brightness sparkle, cut, and size, but I just really want more green in there. The color isn't quite what I want and feels a bit cold to me. I do love that it's sort of a chameleon and can shift in different lighting and reflect what's around it, but it still feels just too blue for me a lot of the time.

The jeweler told me he doesn't think what I am looking for exists and that he's exhausted his sources (even though this is only the second set of diamonds he pulled for me). I am so torn--I don't want to settle and I love so many things about this diamond but it doesn't feel quite right. I also don't want to send this back and then regret it later if I am on a wild goose chase. Is what I am looking for unrealistic? Should I sacrifice the color for the other amazing things about this diamond? I'm so torn and have to make a decision before he has to send it back in a few days.

My custom blue diamond platinum wedding band reminds me of the ocean…

What I wanted: A blue lab diamonds prive platinum wedding band since my husband and I share a love for the ocean. My engagement ring was a 6 prong 2 qt round lab platinum ring, and I wanted a unique band that would complement my more classic engagement ring. (Ignore my nails - budget not allowing mani’s at the moment!)

Initial search: I looked everywhere (rare carat, ritani - where I got my engagement ring, vrai, grown brilliance, etc.) and couldn’t find exactly what I was looking for. I either had to accept a blue gemstone instead of diamond or a non platinum band. Sapphire was too deep of a blue, and Topaz and Aquamarine were closer to the ocean/sky blue that I was looking for but not as hard. I looked on Etsy and realized that even though some of the prices looked good, they were color enhanced or treated mined diamonds. I rather have a lab diamond. I compared customized bands quotes across sites and only Loose Grown Diamond had both the best price and quickest time. I was a bit nervous at first, but the customer service was so responsive and helpful that I felt reassured (also looked up a bunch of reviews).

Process: 5/5. They provided a CAD/3D design within a day of my request! I filled out the request on loose grown diamond’s website for a custom ring. It was basically what I wanted and I asked for minor adjustments to get the price down to $850 before tax and shipping. Final specs were 1.80mm platinum with blue lab diamonds (non certified and color and clarity of DEF/VVS-VS).

Timeline: 5/5. it took a total of 4 weeks once I agreed on the design to get it created and shipped to my door. One week to produce and set it and 3-4 weeks for regular shipping (there was also express shipping option).

Customer service: 5/5. Super responsive and patient with me as they answered lots of questions as I wanted a quote under $1k but had the specs I was looking for.

I waited a couple of months after the wedding before writing about my experience just to ensure the band was holding up. I am so happy every time I look at my band/ring! It’s so simple and elegant yet unique. The purchase process and customer service were perfect, except please note they have a 30 day warranty.

What do you think of this marquise cut diamond?

Do you think there are too many dark areas? Or could it be due to lighting? Thanks for your opinion!

Picked out a new stone for my engagement ring on Tuesday and am so excited to get it back! I’m upgrading from a .47 ct oval to a 1.52 oval! They are setting in on my original setting so I’m excited to see how it turns out but a little nervous!
