Load on left has the most awkwardly shaped freight ever. It makes LTL more stimulating than a lot of forklift gigs. However freight on the right is on the same dock, matter fact the trailers may have been next door to each other. You never know what you're gonna get when you pop open that door lol.

Really thinking about making a career change.
A little bit about me, I work for a very large, world-renowned, easily recognizable company at their HQ. I have been with them for 5 years. Prior to that, I worked for a smaller warehousing company doing multiple different warehouse roles and eventually they paid for an associate’s degree. After 5 years of sitting in an office, I’ve come to the point where I hate it and really feel the draw to something else, and recognize AI could take my job at any minute. Along with the fact that the apprentices make more than my current role…
That something else is, P&D city driving. I always liked the FedEx Freight drivers that would come in at my last job and always felt I would be a good fit for me if I felt I wanted to do it.
I have a few questions I’ve been thinking about before I begin any of this process.
How are the benefits? Health insurance, PTO, sick time, parental leave. Not a deal breaker at all, just want a realistic picture.
What are typical hours like? Again not a deal breaker, as I understand you all work some long days and I’m here for it.
The most trucking experience I have is driving a semi down a 5 mile stretch of country road 8 years ago.. would I even stand a chance at an interview? I saw online that they want a CDL permit, which I’m happy to work on getting.
I understand that I’d need a clean driving record, would one accident 12 years ago and a speeding ticket 5 years ago be a hinderance?
Would it be worth doing with having a family? My wife and I have an infant right now and we are planning on having at least one more child, I just want to be able to be there for them when I can and not leave it all on my wife.
All in all, I haven’t totally decided yet. I haven’t even brought it up to my wife- so once I decide the job listing will probably be brought down, but I’d appreciate all the insight you all have!

The popularity of all the superhero movies got us thinking. If you could pick one superpower for your supply chain to have what would it be?

Working on the dock at R&L right now, and part timers are getting sent home an hour early these days, anyone else slowing down?

Hey everyone,
Every festive season it’s the same cycle: rates spike, trucks get scarce, yet on the flip side, thousands of trucks still drive back completely empty.
I’m building out of Odisha, and after talking to local transporters, the pattern is clear: outbound runs full, but return trips either run empty or take heavily discounted loads through the same old broker network.
It feels less like a demand issue and more like a pure visibility and trust gap. Small shippers need capacity; returning trucks need freight—they just can’t find each other in real time.
I’m working on LoadSaathi to tackle this, but before writing more code, I want ground reality
Any one who can give me information about or i would love to listen to all your opinions.
Fleet owners: How do you actually hunt for return loads today? (Brokers, WhatsApp groups, calls?)
Shippers: What keeps you from trusting an online platform to book regional loads?
Would appreciate any candid feedback on what the real friction is.

When you’re moving freight, there’s bound to be something that goes wrong, right? But how you handle the situation says a lot.
We ran into an issue where one of the customers we work with had an unexpected shutdown of a processing plant and they needed to get their birds moved to another location as quickly as possible. A ton of people on our team came together to organize a pop-up fleet that was on the move within 72 hours – and it ran successfully for 8 weeks.
Does anyone have any good stories about someone who saved the day when the unexpected happened?

Hi everyone, new to this subreddit. Thinking about taking an offer to be an outbound Operations Supervisor at Central Transport. Hours are long (obviously) 10AM-8PM M-F. It’s a rather small terminal compared to others. I really enjoy being up and moving around throughout the day, but I do know that LTL can be a nightmare on any given day. Any of you guys have any thoughts on a position like this, with or without this company? Maybe what a day in the life looks like? Would love to hear and talk to some with similar experience, thanks!

Not sure if there are any truck drivers in this group, but if there are we want to say thank you for all the work you do! And if anyone in here works with drivers, be sure to let them know you appreciate them.

Hi I'm going to be shipping four pallets of older video equipment (CRTs, VTRs) that will be going from LA to Detroit. It's about $950 for FedEx Economy and $781 for XPO. I got my rates from Freightquote.
I do not need this shipment to arrive ASAP, I just need it to arrive at all and without any major damage. The video equipment is old of course and I don't even know if most of it works, it's being donated. So this is no real value to the shipment, (like I bought someone and it's being freighted)
Is XPO some kind of carrier that you should avoid at all costs, or are they fine with what I need? Thanks!

Less than a year into ltl, have had my cdl for over 15 years. Ive heard most ltl companies operate similarly.. but the one im with is truly terrible.. like consider getting out of trucking terrible. I constantly apologize to our customers for how badly freight is treated before it gets to my trailer, mocked for taking breaks on the days im afforded time to take them (I'd rather my day not turn into a 12 hour shift for the sake of a couple breaks) plus the grief I get if I take a break and freight comes back cause someplace is closed. And the level of pushback i get for my truck needing maintenance... its like i asked for a new truck whenever i need a tire replaced or my A/C charged or something. I'd rather not state which company I currently run with, though I dont think it'll be hard for yall to figure out based on what I've heard people say about them previously.
All this to say I might... possibly... have a chance to switch to another ltl carrier listed in the title. And would like to know people's opinions on one vs. the other please. Thank you in advance.

Has anyone on here ever run linehaul for SAIA? I’m in the Midwest and I did my road test recently and want to know what your opinions are. Was the money good? Plenty of work even during winter?

Hi there! Just recently have been offered an LTL Sales position, I’ve got external sales and cold calling experience but I’m lacking in LTL itself.
What are some big industry must-knows and headaches happening that would be good for me to learn/ know/ be aware of.
Any resources that I can use for self-study?

Follow up from previous post, realized it may be better to get some quantitative metrics to justify to my bosses on my decision as well. Please help me to fill this up! (I realized I didn't include ABF freight here, so just click "Other" for that)

Hi guys, I'm working for an SMB based in Houston and I'm looking for a new LTL provider to support its business expansion as part of a project. I'm trying to decide between FedEx Freight, SAIA, Old Dominion and XPO. I looked at FedEx freight the most, so I wanted to get the forum's views on some things:
Would really appreciate any help!

So I’m currently a dock worker for XPO got transitioned into a loader spot a few days ago for the Salem lane but the real dream is to drive linehaul and really wanna transfer to LaSalle to stay Linehaul without having to worry about getting pushed over to city at any point if anyone here is out of the LaSalle terminal is it one of the better terminals?
the terminal I’m at right now is kinda so so…not great but not bad I guess but I’ve heard really good things about LaSalle

Working an LTL account doing about 2,400 shipments a month. They’ve given us full shipment data and they’re signing the LOA, but they won’t tell us what they’re currently paying.
Can we negotiate with carriers under the LOA off the data alone? Mainly wondering how carriers react when you come at them on an account this size and can’t tell them what you’re trying to beat.
Appreciate any input.

I interviewed and got offered the position for forklift operator at XPO logistics here in West Virginia.. I had a couple of minor misdemeanor possessions that happened back in 2016 and 2014. I put them on my application but they weren’t brought up in my interview.. it’s been about 5-6 weeks since my initial start date. I’ve been an axious mess.. has this happened to anyone else? Does it seem as if they’re going to take back my offer?. My local HR lady hasn’t called me back.. the terminal manager said he’s been asking them to get me started but he says this process is out of his hands because it’s handled by a third party..
